Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what year was "Cyclorama" released?

Answer: 2003

This was the first studio album since 1999's "Brave New World". It was the first to feature the Young, Shaw, Sucherman, Burtnik, Gowan, Panozzo line-up. To the amazement of most Styx fans, the new line-up turned out a TOTAL CLASSIC! Two BIG thumbs up for this one!
2. Which of the following statements accurately describes what the songs "These Are The Times" and "KYAGB" have in common?

Answer: They are both songs about death

Burtnik admits "KYAGB" has a pretty solid Sum-41 influence. It was definately a departure for Styx that really showcases their versatility and ability to adapt to today's more prevelant genres. "These Are The Times" is absolutely haunting... A perfect match for JY's vocal style. This is quite possibly Young's finest work to date.
3. What vegetable is prominently featured on the "Cyclorama" album cover, and throughout the liner notes?

Answer: Carrot

There are several theories about the meaning of the carrot. Some say it is a metaphor; the proverbial "dangling carrot". One band member speculated it was "the bait". Many, myself included, believe the carrot theme to be a joke: A shot, if you will, at former Stygian Dennis DeYoung's propensity for pushing conceptual albums.

The carrots on every page, as well as the addition of stuffed bunnies and black-suited men would seem to lend viability to this theory. Then again, maybe it's just Storm Thorgerson being WEIRD! (Look at "Pieces Of Eight".)
4. Of the following artists, which act did NOT make a guest appearance on the "Cyclorama" album?

Answer: Dennis DeYoung

Beach Boy Brian Wilson appears on "Fooling Yourself (Palm Of Your Hands)". Tenacious D perform back-up vocals on "KYAGB", as well as doing an impromptu skit with Tommy on a hidden track. Finally, Billy Bob Thorton "sings" (if that's what you can call it) leads on "Bourgeois Pig".
5. Lawrence Gowan only wrote two of the songs for this album.

Answer: False

According to the album credits, Lawrence Gowan co-wrote all fourteen of the listed tracks - He only sings leads on two of them. (It would probably be a pretty safe assumption that LG was the primary writer of the two tracks he sings leads on and none else, but the credits do not make any differentiation.)
6. "Cyclorama" is the first Styx studio album not to feature John Panozzo on drums.

Answer: False

"Brave New World" was the first studio album made without the benefit of John on percussion.
7. Which of the following statements is true?

Answer: "Cyclorama" is the first Styx studio album not to feature Dennis DeYoung

Dennis DeYoung recorded "BNW" but was ousted for the tour. Although three live albums were released in the intervening years, "Cyclorama" was the first studio effort not to include DeYoung.
8. Finish the lyric: "Looking up from where I stand __________________"

Answer: "I see the vapor trails of a jet plane in the sky"

From "Waiting For Our Time", the first single release from "Cyclorama".
9. The song with the parenthesized sub-title "Palm Of Your Hands" is a harmonized cover of "Fooling Yourself".

Answer: True

A VERY short cover. The title of this track is actually "Fooling Yourself (Palm Of Your Hands)".
10. Which song are the folllowing lyrics from? "And from those who've seen the light beyond, we know the end will bring tranquility".

Answer: "These Are The Times"

It has been reported in various media that the passing of JY's brother was a large part of (if not the entire) inspiration for this song.
11. Fill in the missing words from these lyrics: "Why is it I __________ that nobody wants to?"

Answer: None of these

If you want the correct lyrics, refer to "More Love For The Money" from (of course) the "Cyclorama" album. (Lawrence Gowan performs lead vocals on this song.)

*The correct lyric is not "family friendly" and, as such, cannot be printed on this site.
12. "Cyclorama" is the group's fourteenth studio album.

Answer: True

"Styx", "Styx II", "The Serpent Is Rising", "Man Of Miracles", "Equinox", "Crystal Ball", "The Grand Illusion", "Pieces Of Eight", "Cornerstone", "Paradise Theatre", "Kilroy Was Here", "Edge Of The Century", "Brave New World", "Cyclorama".
13. What was the official name of the "Cyclorama" promotional tour as reported on the group's official web site in April, May, and June of 2003?

Answer: "Classic Rock's Main Event"

The tour featured REO Speedwagon and Journey as co-headliners, with no supporting acts. (REO and Styx alternated as the opening act).
14. On the 2003 tour, what symbol was pictured prominently on Sucherman's bass drum?

Answer: A single carrot

Although clocks and wathces were part of the visual imagery, a single "Cyclorama Carrot" appeared on two of Todd's drums.
15. On the 2003 tour, what items were most frequently brought to the stage as offerings to the group?

Answer: Women's undergarments

Many times the articles ended up on guitars, or even the heads of band members. It was quite a comical sight.
16. In many cities on the 2003 tour Styx held free album signings for "Cyclorama".

Answer: True

Fans could also have other Styx memorobilia signed free of charge, and some even got to take pictures with band members. Styx ROCKS!
17. In the "notes" section of the band's web site, Tommy Shaw made an entry in which he talked about how impressed he was with the colorful tattoos he saw on fans at a "Cyclorama" signing during the 2003 tour. From the following list, identify the city in which this signing took place.

Answer: Salt Lake City, Utah

Yes, believe it or not, he was referring to Salt Lake City, Utah! Utah's Tri-Multiplex area (Salt Lake, Ogden, Provo) is actually well respected in the tattoo world when it comes to the use of color in body art. All three cities boast some extremely talented tattoo artists. Go figure!
18. According to the album credits, John Panozzo only performed on two tracks on "Cyclorama".

Answer: False

Chuck Panozzo only performed on two of this album's tracks. John Panozzo passed on in 1996, more than six years before "Cyclorama"'s release.
19. "Cyclorama" is the first Styx studio album to feature Glen Burtnik.

Answer: False

Burtnik co-wrote and performed the title track for "Edge Of The Century". Although he was absent the "Brave New World" album, he was reinducted after its release to replace Chuck Panozzo on tour.
20. In which city did the first official "Cyclorama" album signing take place?

Answer: Chicago, Illinois

The band's original line-up were all from Chicago and of the "Cyclorama" line-up Young, Sucherman, Panozzo and Shaw are all from the Windy City or lived there for a time. And, since the band did originate in Chicago, many special still events center around this city as far as the band goes. Now, GO BUY THE ALBUM!
