They toured the United States and Europe, and played Dead Kennedys songs from the "early years." Drummer DH Peligro dropped out of the 2008 string of tours due to a "need for a break from all the touring". Ex-singer Jello Biafra preached on a spoken word tour after leaving the band. Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which band member formed the group, in June of 1978?

Answer: East Bay Ray

Contrary to popular belief, Ray actually formed the band after seeing his first punk show in San Francisco. Within weeks, the band was already recording demos.
2. Since the name the "Dead Kennedys" was not viewed too kindly by the general public, the band used several pseudonyms to disguise themselves. Which of these four is NOT one?

Answer: Jello and The Juggernauts

When the band first began playing at shows, public officials did not want the name "Dead Kennedys" on signs across town. To avoid this problem, the group used these odd, but amusing, disguises.
3. On March 25, 1980 the band performed at the Bay Area Music Awards. What song did they play, in its entirety?

Answer: Pull My Strings

The Awards Show was for new and up-coming 'New Wave' bands. DK was expected to play their biggest underground hit at the time, "California Über Alles". About 15 seconds into the song, singer Jello exclaimed, "Hold it! We've gotta prove that we're adults now. We're not a punk rock band, we're a new wave band." And then they broke into "Pull My Strings".

This was the one and only time the band ever played the song, either live or in studio.
4. Which member of the band left in January of 1981 to pursue a career in architecture?

Answer: Ted

Ted left the group in early 1981 after drumming through the band's first album, "Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables". Ted even helped to find the Dead Kennedys' new drummer, D. H. Peligro, before leaving.
5. Which of these songs appears on the Dead Kennedys' third release?

Answer: Forest Fire

The third release is called "Plastic Surgery Disasters". A couple of other well-known songs from the album are "Terminal Preppie", "Halloween", and "Riot".
6. The bassist for the band's entire career was never replaced. What is his real name?

Answer: Geoffrey Lyall

Geoffrey Lyall was born in Detroit, Michigan, in the year 1949. He's better known by his stage name, Klaus Flouride. He wore coke-bottle glasses.
7. D. H. Peligro (Darren Henley) plays rhythm guitar in the song "Moon Over Marin".

Answer: False

Darren strictly played the drums. That's it.
8. Jello Biafra never considered himself to be a political activist, anarchist, or cult leader while he was active with the Dead Kennedys. Which of these acts did he never perform live with the group?

Answer: Say, "God died in Vietnam"

Jello was known for enticing the crowd to vote smart, and not to let the "hippie-hating conservatives" take over. He also campaigned for himself as a write-in candidate, even though he wasn't running. And as long as they played "California Uber Alles" and "We've Got A Bigger Problem Now", they were mocking political figures.
9. The group broke up in 1986 due to Jello Biafra allegedly witholding royalties from the rest of the band. Which band member was reluctant at first to sue Biafra, but was soon 'recruited' by the other two?

Answer: Klaus Flouride

Jello and Klaus were buddies, and Klaus didn't think it was fair to sue Jello until he was informed how much he was really entitled to.
10. For their 2008 tour, the Dead Kennedys consisted of members East Bay Ray, Klaus Flouride, Skip, and Dave Scheff. They toured the United States and Europe, and played Dead Kennedys songs from the "early years." Drummer DH Peligro dropped out of the 2008 string of tours due to a "need for a break from all the touring". Ex-singer Jello Biafra preached on a spoken word tour after leaving the band. His spoken word album titled "In the Grip of Official Treason" was his seventh and was released in February of 2006 in the US. The member 6025 remained relatively low key ever since he was booted out of the band, early in the band's career.

Answer: False

All of the information is true, except that the spoken word album by Biafra is his eighth, not seventh, and it was released October of 2006, not in February.
