Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dream Theater plays a different setlist every time they play show, created using their entire discography. That being said, it is safe to say that every Dream Theater song has been played live at least once. However there is one song that they have NEVER played live. What song is it?

Answer: Space-Dye Vest

The mikeportnoy.com FAQ stated, "We definitely would never play this [Space-Dye Vest] live without Kevin in the band. It was totally 100% his song and had we known he was about to quit the band, we wouldn't have even put it on our album."
2. What was the working title for "Under a Glass Moon?"

Answer: The Battle of Jimmy Cocoa and Fishface

"Carnival of Clams" was the working title for "Burning My Soul," "Puppies on Acid" was the working title for "The Mirror," and "Showdown" was the working title for "Raise the Knife."
3. Which song featured a bit of morse code being played in the background, which went unnoticed for a year-and-a-half?

Answer: In the Name of God

When isolated, the Morse code translates into one of Mike's catch phrases, but it's something naughty, so if you want to know what it is, look around the web. You'll find it :)
4. What band did Dream Theater use to make fun of for "always having to have their own dressing room?"

Answer: Yes

This was mentioned during one of the backstage scenes in between songs on the "Chaos in Motion" DVD. Mike said, "We have officially become Yes," when he and the other band members all got their own dressing rooms one night.
5. During the "Score" performance, on what song did Petrucci's guitar rig go out completely?

Answer: Under a Glass Moon

This was caused by a cameraman who accidentally stepped on the master switch for Petrucci's rig. If you watch the DVD, you can see JP checking his peddle board, and him running back to his amps to get the rig started again. However you can't hear the guitar go out on the DVD because JP went into a studio after the show and recorded the missing part so it flowed together.
6. Each individual member of the band Dream Theater has their own website.

Answer: False

Everyone but Myung has their own site. Each of their sites are self titled (i.e. Mike's site is called mikeportnoy.com, Jordan's site is called jordanrudess.com, etc.).
7. How many scenes are in "Scenes From a Memory?"

Answer: 9

Although there are 12 tracks, scenes 2, 3, and 7 are made up of 2 tracks each, leaving 9 scenes.
8. The unifying theme of the album "Octavarium" is: "Everything ends where it began." But there is another recurring theme with the album and it's jacket. What is it?

Answer: All of these

If you finger through the booklet and read it closely, you'll notice the numbers 5 and 8 are recurring throughout the pages (i.e. Octopus with 8 tentacles surrounded by 5 fish, all near a stop sign, which has 8 sides). I don't have the space to list all the examples in the booklet, but visit http://dt.spatang.com/octavarium.php for all examples.

Each song on the album is played in a different minor key, and they go in order of the scale. "The Root of All Evil" is played in F, then the pattern continues: G, A, B, C, D, to "Sacrificed Sons" which is played in E, and finishing with "Octavarium" being played in F, to go with the "everything ends where it began" theme.

When you completely fold out the jacket, it is a Newton's cradle with 8 balls and 5 birds flying above them. If you look at their positions, it creates a piano octave (the balls are the white keys and the birds are the black keys)."The Root of All Evil" also starts an octave lower than "Octavarium" despite both songs being played in the F minor key.

There's another easter egg here, this is question #8!
9. What is John Petrucci's middle name?

Answer: Peter

Stephen is Mike's middle name.
10. On which closing track did Jordan play the last note with his nose?

Answer: In the Name of God

This was revealed in the "Making of Train of Thought" documentary.
