Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Which Brit rockers sang 'Down Down', way back in 1975?

Answer: Status Quo

In the UK and Australia, they were one of the biggest rock acts of the 1970s, with hits like 'Pictures of Matchstick Men', 'Caroline', 'Rockin' All Over the World' and 'Whatever You Want' all hitting Top Ten. For some reason, they did not make the charts at all in the USA.
2. What do the song 'Up, Up and Away', and a 'Superman' comic villain named Mister Mxyzptlk, have in common?

Answer: The Fifth Dimension

Mister Mxyzptlk is a prankster from the Fifth Dimension who terrorises Superman. His weakness is that he can be sent back to his home by saying his name backwards, ie Kltpzyxm.

The Fifth Dimension had a big hit in 1966 with 'Up, Up and Away', and followed that success with 'Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In', 'Wedding Bell Blues' and '(Last Night) I Didn't Get to Sleep at All'.
3. What was the last Number One hit by Elvis Presley before his untimely death in 1977?

Answer: Way Down

'Way Down' hit the top spot the week before the King died.

'All Shook Up' was twenty years earlier, released in 1957, 'Swanee River' was covered by many people, but Elvis was not one of them. 'Uptown Girl' was a huge hit for Billy Joel, released six years after Elvis's death.
4. 'Up All Night' was a 2011 release for which Californian band, consisting of Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker?

Answer: Blink 182

Blink 182 formed in 1992, but broke up in 2005. They got together again in 2009 and released the album 'Neighborhoods', from which 'Up All Night' was taken. 'Cheshire Cat' was one of their earlier albums, while The Offspring and My Chemical Romance were other punk bands of the same era.
5. The original 'supergroup', The Beatles, released a few 'UP' and 'DOWN' songs. Which of these was the B-side of the huge hit, 'Let It Be'?

Answer: You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)

The lyrics of the fun song 'You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)' are rather interesting. They are simply "you know my name, look up the number" sung repeatedly with various comic voices and silly sound effects.

The three wrong options are also by the Beatles, but none of them appear on an album- all were B-sides. 'Slow Down' was the reverse of 'Dizzy Miss Lizzy', 'Don't Let Me Down' was on the back of 'Get Back' and 'I'm Down' was the flip-side of 'Help!'.
6. This song has almost become an anthem in Australia. If I mentioned a few snatches of lyrics, it should make it easier to identify. "He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich", "Where beer does flow and men chunder", "Travelling in a fried-out Kombi". Name that song!

Others that have covered it include Sonny and Cher, Tony Orlando, Neil Diamond and Robson & Jerome, who took it to the top of the UK charts in 2005.

'Downtown' was a huge success for Petula Clark, 'Down by the River' was the name of two different songs- one belonged to Neil Young and Albert Hammond had a hit in the 1970s. 'Over, Under, Sideways, Down' was a single and album by The Yardbirds, featuring Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck.
