1. What 1960s-era song are the following lyrics from? "The desert couldn't hold all the love that I have in my heart for you If I could spread it out across the sea you know my love would cover it all up"

Answer: Taj Mahal - "Ain't That A Lot Of Love"

Taj Mahal performs a blistering live version of this song on "The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus", a show filmed in a huge tent with real circus performers for the BBC in 1968. Apparently, Mick and the Stones didn't like their performance (which is, along with those of all the other groups performing -- The Who, Jethro Tull, John Lennon's The Dirty Mac Band -- flawless) so they shelved it for 25 years!

Returning in the mid-eighties Grace Slick joined singer Mickey Thomas, along with founding members Paul Kantner and Marty Balin, to sing on their triumphant come-back record, "Modern Times".

The Tubes began their career in the seventies as a punk/new wave-type band but found their first radio hit in the early eighties with this song from their album "Outside/Inside". They found further notoriety when censors at MTV nearly banned their racy video for "She's A Beauty", airing it only after some strategic digital blurring concealed the objectionable content.
