Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I realise "It's Tricky" but there is no need to "Walk This Way" if you have this car. Who do you have pumping on the stereo though?

Answer: Run-D.M.C.

Run-D.M.C. were a hip hop band who had their biggest hits in the late 80s, two fine examples being "Walk This Way" (1986) and "It's Tricky" (1987). Both of these were top 20 hits in UK and both came from their 1986 album, "Raising Hell".

The DeLorean was a car manufactured between 1981 and 1982 by DMC. Although it is regarded as a poorly built car, it has a huge cult following due to it featuring in the "Back To The Future" movie franchise between 1985 and 1990.
2. Come on! "Don't Make Me Wait, it's time to start "The Journey". As we slide into this Porsche, which UK boy band are we listening to?

Answer: 911

911 were together between 1995 and 2000, during which time they scored ten UK top ten singles, including a number one with a cover of the song made famous by Dr Hook, "A Little Bit More" (1999). "Don't Make Me Wait" (1996) was the band's first UK top ten hit, while "The Journey" (1997) went to number three.

The Porsche 911 is one of the most recognisable shapes ever in the automotive world and is largely unchanged since its introduction in 1964.
Famous 911 owners include Ellen DeGeneres, Tom Cruise, David Beckham, Arnold Schwarzenegger and major Porsche lover, Jerry Seinfeld, who owns a garage full of 911s.
3. "No One Knows" what it is like to be "A Teenager In Love". Dion is driving this Vauxhall, so who is sat in the back seat?

Answer: The Belmonts

The Belmonts were already a vocal group, albeit an unsuccessful one, before Dion DiMucci joined them. With Dion they found success almost immediately as "I Wonder Why" (1958) peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA. "No One Knows" (1958) became their first top 20 hit on the same chart, while "A Teenager In Love" (1959) was their first Billboard Hot 100 top five hit as well as being their only UK hit.

The Vauxhall Belmont was a saloon version of the Vauxhall Astra that was manufactured for sale in UK between 1986 and 1991. Although the car was still produced after 1991, it was rebadged as the Astra saloon, with no mention of the Belmont name.
4. This Honda is exactly the sort of vehicle that a "Native New Yorker" would drive. The large doors make it easy to exit "If You're Looking For A Way Out" too. Who would we find in this car?

Answer: Odyssey

Odyssey were a New York soul band, who had more success in UK than in their native USA. While "Native New Yorker" (1977) reached number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA, this was their only hit, whereas in UK they had five top ten hits including a number one with "Use It Up And Wear It Out" in 1980.
"If You're Looking For A Way Out", also from 1980 was a number six hit in UK and both of these tracks were taken from their album, "Hang Together" (1980).

The Honda Odyssey began production in 1994 and was Honda's first minivan. It achieved great success in USA where it was approved by New York City's Taxi and Limousine Commission as being preferable over the Chevrolet Caprice and the Ford Crown Victoria.
5. Oh man! These cars smell like "Green Onions". "Time Is Tight", so tell me, if Booker T is behind the wheel, who else is in the car?

Answer: The M.G.'s

Booker T. Jones was the keyboard player in the M.G.'s, who were a R&B and funk instrumental group from Memphis. The band had several hits on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA, including "Time Is Tight" (1969), "Hang 'Em High" (1968), and "Green Onions" (1962), all of which were top ten hits.
In UK, "Green Onions" wasn't a hit first time out; the band had to wait until the track was reissued in 1979 to get a hit there with it, and they are probably still best known in UK for "Soul Limbo" (1968) which was for many years used as the theme music for the BBC cricket coverage.

The MG car manufacturer has a long and diverse history going back to 1924 and has produced some of the most iconic sports cars to come out of UK.
Famous MG owners have included The Duke of Edinburgh who owned an MG TC and Prince Charles who owned an MGC GT between 1967 and 1997, when he passed it on to Prince William.
6. I imagine it would be "Easy" to drive these Holdens around a "Brick House". Which band do you suppose the police have in the back of their cars?

Answer: The Commodores

The Commodores are well known as the band with which Lionel Richie started his career, and with him in the band, they had several hit singles. These include "Easy" and "Brick House" (both 1977) as well as "Three Times A Lady" (1978) and "Still" (1979). Following Richie's departure for a solo career, the hits have not been as forthcoming although "Nightshift" (1984) was a top ten hit in many countries.

The Holden Commodore was first manufactured in Australia in 1978 when it replaced the Kingswood. In the late 1990s to early 2000s, Holden were selling over 80,000 Commodores a year, every year and there can't be many Australians who haven't driven a "Commo" at some point in their lives.
7. This Volkswagen will give a "Smooth" drive to pick up your date. Don't arrive too early though as you may find "She's Not There". Who would you listen to on the stereo while waiting?

Answer: Santana

Santana have been around since 1966 and played Woodstock in 1969, the same year that they had their first top ten single on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA. This track was "Evil Ways" (1969) and the following year they had their first top five single on the same chart when "Black Magic Woman" (1970) peaked at number four. "She's Not There" was a top 30 hit in 1977 and then in 1999, Santana had their first Billboard Hot 100 number one in USA, when "Smooth", featuring Rob Thomas on vocals hit the top spot.

The VW Santana was a sedan car which was first produced in China in 1983. It was intended as a rival to the Audi 80 but the public never really took to it and production was halted in 1988. It was sold as the Quantum in the USA, the Corsar in Mexico and the Carat in Argentina.
8. This car would soon get you "Up Around The Bend" to pick up that "Sweet Hitch-Hiker" but who would you expect to be driving this Koenigsegg?

Answer: CCR (Creedence Clearwater Revival)

Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) were together for just four short years between 1968 and 1972, but what a legacy they left us. In that time they had nine top ten singles on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA beginning with "Proud Mary" in 1969 and ending with "Sweet Hitch-Hiker" in 1971.

The Koenigsegg CCR was built between 2004 and 2006 and is extremely rare with just 14 models being built.
In 2005, the CCR took the record for fastest production car, when it set a top speed of top speed of 241.01 mph (387.87 kmh) at Italy's Nardo Ring.
This was short lived however as just two months later, the Bugatti Veyron took the record with a speed of 253.81 mph (408.47 kmh).
9. So, as a choice of "Ride", this British Leyland car may not be "Red Hot", but perhaps the driver is. Which of these would drive a car like this perhaps?

Answer: Princess

Princess, real name Desiree Heslop, had her big hit in 1985, when "Say I'm Your Number One" reached number seven in UK charts, as well as being a top ten hit in Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland and Germany. "I'll Keep On Loving You" (1986) was a top 20 hit for her, and she had several minor hits including "Red Hot" (1987) and "Tell Me Tomorrow" (1986).

The Princess was first produced in 1975 and production ended in 1981 when it was replaced by the Ambassador. Lack of reliability and poor build quality led to falling sales and contributed to the decline of British Leyland.
10. "Don't Stop Believin'" in this Dodge. This vehicle will start "Faithfully" every time and it's big enough to accommodate which band?

Answer: Journey

Journey were formed in 1973 by former members of Santana and Frumious Bandersnatch, and had their first Billboard Hot 100 top 20 hit in 1979 with "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'". Their biggest successes came in the early 1980s when the "Escape" (1981) and "Frontiers" (1983) albums yielded six top 20 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including "Don't Stop Believin'" (1981), "Open Arms" (1982) and "Faithfully" (1983).

The Dodge Journey is a mid size SUV that was first sold in 2009. It was available with a choice of four gasoline engines and two diesel engines. Manufacture ceased in 2020 following slow sales and the decision by Dodge to concentrate on performance cars, the Charger, the Challenger, and the Durango.
