Answer: true

According to Rolling Stone magazine, the Beatles had told their manager they didn't want to go to tour America until they were "toppermost of the poppermost." It was a teenage girl, Marsha Albert, who first got a D.C. DJ to play an imported copy of the "I Want to Hold Your Hand" single, and it took off from there.

The official single was released in the U.S. on December 26, 1963, and it peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in February of 1964.
2. What song, originally titled "Seventeen," was on the B-side of the "I Want to Hold Your Hand" single in the U.S.?

Answer: I Saw Her Standing There

"This Boy" was on the B-side of the single released in the U.K. on November 29, 1963, but in the U.S., it was "I Saw Her Standing There." This song, originally titled "Seventeen," begins:

"Well, she was just seventeen
You know what I mean..."
3. Why didn't the Beatles' "I Want to Hold Your Hand" immediately shoot to the top of the charts when it was released in the U.K.?

Answer: The Beatles' already had a number one song on the charts

When the Beatles released the single in the U.K., they were in competition with their own number one hit, "She Loves You," which was their first song to sell a million copies. "She Loves You" remained at the top of the charts for another two weeks after the release of "I Want to Hold Your Hand," which eventually beat it out for top dog slot and held onto that position for the next five weeks.
4. "Oh yeah, I'll tell you somethin' / I think you'll _____" what?

Answer: understand

"Oh yeah, I'll tell you somethin'
I think you'll understand
When I say that somethin'
I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand."

Rolling Stone magazine described this song as "an irresistibly erotic come-on framed as a chaste, bashful request." It was written by Lennon and McCartney at the home of the parents of Paul McCartney's girlfriend Jane Asher.

Answer: man

"Oh please, say to me

Now, let me hold your hand
I want to hold your hand."

"I Want to Hold Your Hand" was the Beatles' best-selling single worldwide. In the U.K., it was second only to "She Loves You." In addition to the U.K. and the U.S., the song peaked at number one on singles charts in Norway, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Sweden, and West Germany.

For the song, John Lennon and Paul McCartney supplied vocals and rhythm and bass guitar, respectively, while George Harrison played lead guitar and Ringo Starr played drums. All four Beatles added handclaps to the song. In Anthony Scaduto's 1973 biography on Bob Dylan, Dylan was quoted as saying about this song that the Beatles' "chords were outrageous" and "their harmonies made it all valid." They were, Dylan said, "doing things nobody was doing."
