Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the first album released by "The Whitlams"?

Answer: Introducing the Whitlams

Released in 1993. The album that brought them their first big Australian hit ("I Make Hamburgers") was "Undeniably the Whitlams", released in 1995.
2. When they first formed in 1992, how many members were in the band?

Answer: 3

Tim Freedman, Stevie Plunder and Andy Lewis. Notably they did not have a drummer! Only 1 member, Tim, remains in 2004 from the original band. Andy moved to Melbourne to get married in 1995, whilst Stevie sadly passed away in 1996.
3. Who are "The Whitlams" named after?

Answer: An Australian Prime Minister

Gough Whitlam was Prime Minister of Australia from 1972 to 1975. He is famous for being the first (and only thus far) PM to be dismissed from office by the Governer General.
4. Which Australian city is "Love This City" referring to?

Answer: Sydney

The reference to the 2000 Olympics is a dead giveaway.
5. Have any "Whitlams" songs ever won an ARIA award?

Answer: Yes

In 1998, "No Aphrodisiac" won song of the year. The album "Eternal Nightcap" also won best independent album. The band also picked up best band in 1998.
6. On to some lyrical questions. Finish the line: "If I had three lives..."

Answer: I'd marry her in two

One of my favourite lines. From the song "Melbourne" on the album "Eternal Nightcap".
7. Finish the line: "...cause they're taking the food off your table, so they can say that the..."

Answer: trains run on time

A scathing song titled "Blow up the Pokies". For those non-Australians playing, pokies (or poker machines) are what us Aussies call slot machines. They are a huge government revenue raiser.
8. In the song "I Make Hamburgers", what does Megan order?

Answer: A hamburger with the lot (no meat)

The next line says: "Hey that's a salad roll I said and we started going out".
9. Which family member does the song "Love is Everywhere" suggest you put in the cupboard?

Answer: Your mother

This is a strange line of the chorus to the track on the album "Eternal Nightcap".
10. How many members were in "The Whitlams" at the start of 2004?

Answer: 4

The band at the start of 2004 is Tim Freedman (vocals and piano), Jak Housden (guitar and backing vocals), Warwick Hornby (bass and backing vocals) and Terepai Richmond (drums, percussion, backing vocals).
