Recorded by Lynyrd Skynyrd, a southern rock band, the controversial song was on their album "Second Helping" (1974). The platinum single, written by Ronnie Van Zant, Ed King, and Gary Rossington, was released in 1976. It topped number eight on the billboard charts in the U.S.
