Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which teen idol of music and TV recorded a comeback song aptly titled for this quiz?

Answer: Rick Nelson

The story behind "Garden Party" is certain but the motives of the crowd reaction that inspired it is less clear. Invited to a reunion concert in New York, Rick Nelson looked more in tune with the times than when he had been little Ricky Nelson on TV. The crowd began booing during his rendition of a newer song and he felt they were booing him.

He later wrote this song from that experience. Another explanation offered for the chorus of boos says it was a reaction to police moving people back.
2. What is the song from the finale of "Little Shop of Horrors" that fits this quiz?

Answer: Don't Feed the Plants

"Mean Green Mother from Outer Space" and "Somewhere that's Green" are both songs from LSOH, but not the finale. Plants are not your Friends is just made up (and obviously not true to begin with!)
3. What song released in the fall of 1970 by Lynn Anderson reached number one on the U.S. country charts and also peaked at number three on U.S. Billboards Hot 100 pop chart?

Answer: (I never Promised You A ) "Rose Garden"

"Rose Garden" remained as the largest selling recording by a female country artist until 1997. She included a bluegrass version on a comeback album and got another Grammy nomination for "The Bluegrass Sessions", her first in over 30 years.
4. In 1982, the multi-talented R&B singer Patrice Rushen wanted you to send her some of these flowers:

Answer: Forget-Me-Nots

In 1982, the dance single "Forget-Me-Nots" reached #2 on the U.S. dance charts and #8 on the U.K. singles charts. You also might recall this from "Men In Black" when Will Smith sampled it.
5. Bette Midler, Broadway star and singer, made her motion picture debut in which 1979 film?

Answer: The Rose

"The Rose" is a fictionalized account of the life of singer Janis Joplin. Originally titled "Pearl" after Joplin's last album, the tile was changed when her family refused to sign over the movie rights to her life story. The film garnered Midler her first Oscar nomination for Best Actress and a chart-topping hit of the same name.
6. Published in 1934 and performed that same year by Bing Crosby, which 'floral' word completes the title of the song 'Love in ____'?

Answer: Bloom

'Love in Bloom' reached No 1 in the US charts in 1934 for Bing Crosby, one of several hits for him that year. Bing Crosby was of course, best known for his record-breaking rendition of the song 'White Christmas'. He died in 1977 of a heart attack aged 74 in Madrid following a round of golf, a sport he loved.
7. Written by Gerry Beckley and released in 1975 as a follow-up single on his band's fifth studio album, this song is about a man trying to get in touch with a parted love and wondering, "Does she really love me?"

Answer: Daisy Jane

"Daisy Jane" was released by the band America on the album "Hearts". The album peaked at number 4 on the Billboard chart with "Daisy Jane" peaking at number 20. The album was produced by George Martin, who was also the producer of all but one of The Beatles' albums.
8. A disc jockey mixed two solo versions of which song together as a farewell gift to his just divorced wife pushing the artists to release it as a real duet?

Answer: You Don't Bring Me Flowers

Neil Diamond and Barbara Streisand, former high school classmates, recorded it as a duet in 1978. It went to #1 on the charts and was the third #1 for both of them.
9. Simon and Garfunkel released their "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme" album in 1966. "Scarborough Fair" single from that album mentions all the above in the lyrics. What was the other plant mentioned in the song?

Answer: Heather

The verse was "Tell her to reap it with a sickle of leather,
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme,
And to gather it all in a bunch of heather,
Then she'll be a true love of mine."
The album ranks number 201 on Rolling Stone magazine's top 500 greatest albums of all time.
10. A certain 'Man In Black' sang a song about a train that was bringin' his baby back. What was the name of the train and the title of the song?

Answer: Orange Blossom Special

Ervin and Gordon Rouse originally recorded this song in 1939 using fiddles as the main sound. Johnny Cash later covered it on his 1965 album of the same name, replacing all the fiddle parts with two harmonicas.
