The debut single by The Smithereens was "Blood And Roses" in 1986. The New Jersey rock band didn't have huge critical success in the U.S. but "Blood And Roses" became their signature song. It reached number 14 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Singles chart.

"Buy Me A Rose" was covered by R&B legend Luther Vandross but it was first released by country superstar Kenny Rogers in 1999. The song was on the album "She Rides Wild Horses".
