The original line-up of Warrant was lead singer Jani Lane, guitarist Joey Allen, guitarist Erik Turner, bassist Joey Dixon, and drummer Steven Sweet.

In their early days, the members of Warrant were friends with the band Poison and learned Poison's technique of self-promotion. Warrant was finally signed with Columbia Records.
