Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Don't you just love the Beatles? I mean, everybody does right? OK, if you love 'em so much, what album is the song "Why Don't We Do it in the Road?" on then eh?

Answer: The Beatles

Did you know that even though this album is called "The Beatles" (1968), it is often referred to as 'the White Album', due to the colour of its sleeve?
2. Everybody's always going on about 'the genius of Bob Dylan'. But why don't you tell me what album the song "It's Alright, Ma (I'm only Bleeding)" is on, eh genius?

Answer: Bringing it all Back Home

On the sleeve of "Bringing it all Back Home" you see Bob Dylan posing with a woman lounging in the background. This was Sally Grossman, wife of his then manager Albert Grossman. Behind her you can see a little piece of the sleeve of the album "Another Side of Bob Dylan" (1964), if you look closely.
3. Tom Waits is held in almost godlike esteem. But do you actually play his records? Then tell me, on what album do you think you can find the song "Come on up to the House"? Come on, have a guess.

Answer: Mule Variations

"Mule Variations" (1999) also contains the great track "What's He Building?", about nosy neighbors prying into other people's business. It seems kind of personal, cos when he's rattling around with sticks and pots and pans in his shed, creating music, he likes to be left alone also.
4. Isn't it interesting that Nick Cave sits in his office from nine to five, writing songs? But do you actually know them? What album is the song "Fifteen Feet of Pure White Snow" on then?

Answer: No More Shall We Part

"No More Shall We Part" (2001) was an album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. All Cave's albums, except his solo debut album "From Her to Eternity" (1984), are released under the singer + band monicker.
5. Everyone's always going on about Iggy Pop's phenomenal live rep. But his albums are nothing to be sniffed at either, you know. Which one carries the great song "Five Foot One" for example?

Answer: New Values

Although "New Values" (1979) isn't Pop's greatest album by far, it's quite interesting and contains the great song "I'm Bored", as well as former Stooges members James Williamson and Scott Thurston.
6. What about the Velvet Underground? Very influential? Best band ever? Yeah yeah. Do you even know what album "Beginning to See the Light" is on?

Answer: The Velvet Underground

"The Velvet Underground" (1969) was The Velvet Underground's third album. It's pretty different from their first two albums, as the songs and sounds are less abrasive and more traditional. This is probably mostly due to the fact that John Cale left the band in 1968.

But the fact that their amplifiers were stolen some time before recording this album, also might have had something to do with their shift towards a softer sound.
7. Yes, the Jesus and Mary Chain made a lot of noise, but everybody loves the lovely songs buried underneath, right? Yeah right. Do you even know what album "The Living End" is on?

Answer: Psychocandy

The song "The Living End" was supposedly a big inspiration for Gregg Araki's 1992 movie of the same name. It was described by the movie critic of the New York Times as "Like "Thelma and Louise," which it resembles on a more modest and desperate scale".
8. The Cure's greatest hits read like ... um ... a list of great hits, yeah? But would you be able to spot the album on which you can find "A Forest" for example?

Answer: Seventeen Seconds

"Seventeen Seconds" (1980) is supposedly the album where the 'real' Cure began. It's the beginning of that bleak sound that became their trademark, whereas their previous album "Three Imaginary Boys" (1979), was a more punkpoppy affair.
9. And what about New Order? They didn't just release the best selling 12" single ever. They also recorded a few albums. Do you know where you can find "Subculture"?

Answer: Low-Life

In 2002 New Order released a mix-album in the "Back to Mine" series, which included their favourite tracks by Captain Beefheart, Donna Summer, Can, Missy Elliott and Cat Stevens, among others.
10. The Smiths, another one of those perfect singles bands. But where oh where is "There is a Light that Never Goes out"?

Answer: The Queen is Dead

In 2006 singer Morrissey told Uncut magazine the following about the possibility of a The Smiths reunion: "I would rather eat my own testicles than re-form The Smiths and that's saying something for a vegetarian."
