2. Who would have thought that a dental student and ex-football player could come up with a product so unusual that it would make millions? What "fake" fashion statement did the duo create?

Answer: teeth

After Rich Bailey, a dental student, met entrepreneur and ex-football player Jonah White, the pair came up with the idea of creating realistic-looking hillbilly teeth. The device snaps on like a mouth guard. The teeth hit the novelty market in the early 90s and made Bailey and White millionaires.

Answer: goldfish walker

Using his experience in metalworking, Madden fashioned a round portable device made of metal on top of which he can place his bowl of golfish. He claims he got the idea from watching dog walkers. According to the inventor, his goldfish love the outings. How can he tell?
4. Which owlish-looking virtual toy sold like hotcakes when it was introduced in 1998 but was withdrawn from the market in 2000?

Answer: Furby

Furby was the brainchild of Dave Hampton and Caleb Chung. Tiger Electronics bought the rights but discontinued the product in 2000. The demand for Furbies forced the company to bring them back. Children loved this furry creature that spoke its own language. Once a child began talking to Furby, it responded in English. Furbies continue to be sold and can now be synched with an IOS or Android app.
5. Building a better mousetrap is not always successful. However, engineer Jenan Kazim did just that by improving on a product that's been around a long time and is used by millions in inclement weather. What product did Kazim improve upon and patent?

Answer: umbrella

It took Kazim ten years to create his KAZbrella, an inside out umbrella. The purpose of this umbrella is to open and close inside out to prevent water from leaking on the person carrying it. The inventor wanted the umbrella to have the same look but he redesigned the mechanism that opens and closes it, achieving its purpose.
6. In the 1980s high school teacher, Stuart Anders, came up with a idea for an affordable and fashionable piece of jewelry, at least while it lasted. What did the teacher invent that flew off the shelves and was worn by students everywhere?

Answer: slap bracelet

While those once ubiquitous "Slap Wraps" are still being sold, the bracelets did not stand the test of time. Reported injuries and knock-offs made Anders' invention just another passing fad. If you really feel you need to buy one, they are available online.

Answer: hula hoop

Wham-O originally sold the plastic hoop which became a huge success. I had one as a kid and it was a lot harder than it looked. The trick was to keep the hoop spinning around the waist as long as possible. Who would have thought that a plastic hoop could still be sold and used over a a half century later?
8. Lafayette Ronald Hubbard, or L. Ron Hubbard as he was better known, founded the Church of Scientology and "Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health." In 1968 he felt the need to create his own device for detecting whether or not tomatoes felt pain when sliced. What did Hubbard create?

Answer: Hubbard Electrometer (E-meter)

L. Ron Hubbard was a man of varied interests. Prior to founding Scientology and Dianetics, he was a science fiction writer as well as writer of pulp fiction during the 1930s. The charismatic Hubbard had many followers but he also had detractors. As such he was not immune to controversy.

He went into hiding after 'Operation Snow White', a calculated effort on the part of Scientology to steal government files that painted a negative image of both the Church of Scientology and its founder. The operation failed and, more significantly, drew unwanted attention towards Hubbard's church.

As for the tomatoes, he came to the conclusion that they scream when sliced.
9. Isn't it annoying to take your cell phone into the bath with you and find that your wet finger won't work on the device? Artist/inventor Dominic Wilcox came up with a solution. What did he invent?

Answer: finger nose stylus

The device, made of plaster, straps around your head and fits over your nose so you can see the stylus and direct it as needed. If you don't mind wearing such a contraption then it may solve your problem of navigating your phone apps while bathing.
10. Don't you just hate it when your face gets chapped while snowboarding? David Stankunas thought so too so he created his own company, once featured on the TV show "Shark Tank," that produces what line of head gear?

Answer: beard hat

Although none of the "Sharks" took on his company, after the show aired the sales increased significantly. From Santa to barbarians, the Beard Head company produces many different kinds of knitted hats, each attached to a knitted beard. If you prefer stubble to beards, Beard Head has it.
