Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Professional baseball player for the NY Mets

Answer: David

Major League Baseball player David Wright is a third baseman for the New York Mets. He made his major league debut in 2004. David has a signed contract with the Mets organization through 2020. He has been selected as an All-Star for a number of years, is a Golden Glove and Silver Slugger Award winner, and a member of the exclusive 30-30 club.

In 2013, David was chosen as the team captain. Unfortunately, he has been plagued with injuries and has not played a full season since 2012.
2. Actress who starred in "The Princess Bride"

Answer: Robin

Robin Wright played the title role in the 1987 movie "The Princess Bride". In the story, Buttercup, a farm girl, has been chosen to become the bride of Prince Humperdinck of Florian. Buttercup, however, does not love the prince and mourns the (supposed) death of Westley, her one true love. Robin also starred in Netflix's "House of Cards" as Claire Underwood, wife of the US president.

She won a Golden Globe Award as Best Actress for her role in "House of Cards", which made her the first actress to win the award for a web based series.
3. Inventor

Answer: Wilbur

Wilbur Wright (1867-1912), along with his brother Orville, was a bicycle shop owner and aviation pioneer. Did you know that the Wright brothers were two of seven children? Wilbur was born near Millville, Indiana and, four years later, Orville was born in Dayton, Ohio; neither one ever married. On December 17, 1903, they conducted their first "free, controlled flight of a power-driven airplane".

They have been called the 'fathers of modern aviation'.
4. Distinctive deadpan stand-up comedian

Answer: Steven

I'm sorry that comedian Steven Wright is making fewer appearances than he used to. His dead-pan delivery and his ironic, philosophical humor not only made me laugh, but made me think! He was influenced by some of the best, i.e., George Carlin, Woody Allen and Bob Newhart. I bet you didn't know that he also won an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for "The Appointment of Dennis Jennings" (1988). He is also a musician and an actor.
Examples of his humor: "If Barbie is so popular, why do you have to buy her friends?" and "What's another word for Thesaurus".
5. Author of "Native Son"

Answer: Richard

"Native Son", published in 1940, was written by African-American author Richard Wright (1908-1960) who wrote short stories, poems, novels and non-fiction, much of it centering around racial themes. The plot centers around a 20 year old black man, Bigger Thomas, who lives in poverty on the south side of Chicago in the 1930s. Thomas becomes a product of the society that produced him, without hope and with a destiny already predetermined. Wright's other novels include "Black Boy" in 1948 and "Uncle Tom's Children in 1938.
6. Country music singer whose debut album was "Woman in the Moon"

Answer: Chely

"Woman in the Moon" in 1994 was the first studio album from American country music artist and gay activist Richelle Rene 'Chely' Wright. Based on this album, she was named Top New Female Vocalist in 1995 by the Academy of Country Music. She recorded the 1997 album "Let Me In" with the hit song "Shut Up and Drive, and "Single White Female" in 1999, from her fourth album.

In May 2010, her memoir "Like Me' was released; at the same time her new album "Lifted Off the Ground" came out. She has also written songs for other singers, including Brad Paisley, the Indigo Girls and Richard Marx.
7. Architect of Fallingwater

Answer: Frank

I left out his middle name, i.e., Lloyd; I hope that didn't trick you. It is almost impossible to think of famous architects without including Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959). In his lifetime, he designed more than a thousand structures. His ground-breaking architectural concepts allowed him to design buildings in harmony with the environment, e.g., Fallingwater, designed in 1935, is one of the prime examples of 'organic architecture'.

He was a leader of the Prairie School movement where he developed unique ideas for urban planning.
8. Drug dealer and author

Answer: Thelma

From the famous, we move on to the infamous. Thelma Wright, Black Mafia Queenpin and Gangster Queen of Philadelphia, took over 'the family business' when her husband, drug dealer Jackie Wright, was murdered in 1986. The gang was responsible for transporting cocaine and heroin between Los Angeles and Philadelphia; all the while she was a single mother, raising her son.

In 1991 Thelma put the life of crime behind her and, a decade later, she published her memoirs, i.e., "With Eyes From Both Sides: Living My Life In and Out of the Game".
9. Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago

Answer: Jeremiah

Do you recall the controversial pastor who used to count Barack Obama among his flock? His name is Jeremiah Alvesta Wright Jr. and, in 2008, he had a congregation of more than six thousand people. Because Barack Obama was one of Wright's congregants, the pastor's sermons came under intense media scrutiny, including his Black liberation theology and anti-Jewish comments. President Obama wound up disavowing the pastor's ideology and resigning his membership in the church.

After 36 years with the church, Pastor Wright subsequently resigned but he continues to maintain and preach his beliefs.
10. American actress who won an Oscar for "Mrs. Miniver"

Answer: Teresa

Teresa Wright (1918-2005) won an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the 1942 war drama "Mrs. Miniver", starring Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon. That same year she also received a Best Actress nomination for her performance as Lou Gehrig's wife in "Pride of the Yankees".
Ms. Wright appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's psychological thriller "Shadow of a Doubt" (1943), and William Wyler's Academy Award winning film "The Best Years of Our Lives" (1946). I also discovered that she played Annie Sullivan in the "Playhouse 90" TV broadcast of "The Miracle Worker" in 1957.
