Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During the 2015 NBA Finals the Cleveland Cavaliers hosted games 1, 2, and 5 since they had a better record than the Golden State Warriors during the regular season.

Answer: False

The 2015 Golden State Warriors had a historic regular season finishing with a record of 67 wins and 15 losses. The Cavaliers finished second in the Eastern Conference with a record of 53 wins and 29 losses. Incredibly the Warriors finished 11 games ahead of the Houston Rockets who finished as the number two seed in the Western Conference. Had there been a game seven that game would have also been hosted by the Warriors.
2. What All-Star from the Cavaliers suffered a knee injury late in Game 1 of the 2015 NBA Finals that caused him to miss the rest of the series?

Answer: Kyrie Irving

Irving had been nursing a nagging leg injury before the NBA Finals and he ended up fracturing his left kneecap in Game 1. Kevin Love also missed the NBA Finals as he had dislocated his left shoulder in Game 4 against the Boston Celtics.
3. The first two games of the NBA Finals were split with the Warriors winning Game 1 and the Cavaliers winning Game 2. What also happened in Games 1 and 2 that had *never* happened before in NBA Finals History?

Answer: Both games went into overtime.

Game 1 finished with the Warriors prevailing 108-100 in overtime whereas in Game 2 the Cavaliers prevailed 95-93 in overtime. There were plenty of slam dunks in both games, no player scored over 50 points, and neither head coach was ejected from the games.
4. Game 3 of the 2015 NBA Finals was won by the Cleveland Cavaliers when an unlikely player scored 20 points while playing solid defense against Stephen Curry. Who was this player who was born in Maryborough, Australia?

Answer: Matthew Dellavedova

Dellavedova had a stellar college career at St. Mary's but he was not drafted by an NBA team. He joined the Cavaliers in 2013 and took on the role of starting point guard in the NBA Finals when Kyrie Irving was injured in Game 1.
5. Having lost Games 2 and 3 of the 2015 NBA Finals, the Warriors' coach made a tactical change. What player was taken out of the starting lineup starting in Game 4 as the Warriors went to a 'small ball' lineup?

Answer: Andrew Bogut

Although he hadn't started a single game in the regular season, Andre Iguodala replaced Bogut for the last three games of the series. The smaller lineup of the Warriors allowed them to play with a quicker tempo that the Cavaliers couldn't quite match.
6. Although the Cavaliers lost Game 4 of the 2015 NBA Finals, a possible star in the making finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Who was this 7ft 1in player that was born in St Petersburg, Russia?

Answer: Timofey Mozgov

Prior to joining the Cavaliers in 2015 Mozgov played limited minutes for the New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets. When he participated in the 2015 NBA Finals Mozgov became the first Russian player to do so. The small lineup of the Warriors and Mozgov's offensive abilities helped Mozgov put up quality numbers in the Finals.
7. Lebron James put on a show in Game 5 of the 2015 NBA Finals as he scored 40 points and had 14 rebounds and 11 assists. However, his team lost as the Warriors were led by a player who scored 37 points including seven three-pointers. Who was this sharpshooter from the Warriors?

Answer: Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry had a phenomenal regular season as he was awarded the NBA MVP and set a record with 286 three-pointers. As a member of the Davidson Wildcats, Stephen Curry also set the single-season NCAA 3-point field goals made record in 2007-08. His father, Dell Curry, played in the NBA from 1986 to 2002 including one season with the Cavaliers.
8. The Warriors led by 15 points late in the fourth quarter of Game 6 of the 2015 NBA finals before a player from the Cavaliers caught fire, hitting four three pointers. Who was this streaky player that the Cavaliers acquired on January 5, 2015, from the New York Knicks?

Answer: J. R. Smith

J. R. Smith went straight from Lakewood High School in New Jersey to the NBA in 2004. Interestingly, during the 2011 NBA lockout, Smith played for the Zhejiang Golden Bulls in China and scored 60 points in a game there. During the 2015 NBA Finals (and for much of the early part of his career) Smith played inconsistently with moments of brilliance followed by poor play.
9. One storyline of the 2015 NBA Finals was that both coaches were in their first season as a head coach in the league. Which coach led the Golden State Warriors to their first championship since 1975?

Answer: Steve Kerr

Steve Kerr played in the NBA from 1988 to 2003 and he was a member of five championship teams. In Kerr's first season as a head coach with the Warriors he set an NBA record for most wins by a rookie coach with 67. Between his coaching and playing career Kerr was a broadcast analyst for TNT's coverage of NBA games.
10. Although Andre Iguodala won the MVP award, one player had a king-like performance during the 2015 NBA Finals. What superstar led all players in the Finals in points, rebounds, and assists for the first time in NBA history?

Answer: Lebron James

Although his shooting percentage was worse than it was in the regular season, Lebron James put up astronomical numbers during the Finals including 35.8 points per game, 13.3 rebounds per game, and 8.8 assists per game. Although he did not win the award, James received four of the 11 first place votes for Finals MVP.

The finals appearance was the fifth straight (sixth overall) for Lebron James and it was the fourth time his team lost in the finals.
