Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which team had the best record entering the 2006-07 postseason?

Answer: Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks ended the season with 67 wins and 15 losses, Phoenix was six games back at 61-21, San Antonio a further two back at 59-23, and Detroit won only 53 games.
2. How many 5, 6, 7, or 8 seeds won their first round series?

Answer: 3

In the Eastern Conference, both the New Jersey Nets (6) and the Chicago Bulls (5) won their series against the Toronto Raptors (3) and Miami Heat (4), respectively. In the West, only the Golden State Warriors (8) defeated the Dallas Mavericks (1).
3. Did either 2005-06 finalist reach the second round in 2006-07?

Answer: No

Both Dallas and Miami were defeated in their first round series, by Golden State, and Chicago, respectively. Miami was swept in four games, and Dallas lost in six.
4. How did Golden State make history?

Answer: All these

Dallas had locked up the playoffs after 60 games when they were at an astonishing 51-9, and Golden State actually gained their playoff spot on the last day of the season. Golden State was 25 games back of Dallas in the West (67-15 vs 42-40). Seattle in 1994 and New York in 1999 did defeat a top seed in the first round (New York eventually becoming the first ever 8th seed to make the NBA Finals), but both of those series were a best-of-5 format.
5. Did a lower seed have home court advantage in the playoffs?

Answer: Yes

In three cases, the lower seeded team had home court advantage. In the first round, both 5th seeds had better records than the 4th seeds (Houston 51-31 vs Utah's 50-32, and Chicago's 49-33 vs Miami's 44-38). In the NBA Finals, the 3rd seed San Antonio Spurs (59-23) had home court against the 2nd seed Cleveland Cavaliers (50-32).
6. In the second round series between the Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs, what kind of player did Amare Stoudamire feel Bruce Bowen was?

Answer: Dirty

When the series was in San Antonio, the crowd at the AT&T Center chanted "dirty" to Amare, due to him calling Bowen a "dirty" player after the Spurs' game 1 win. San Antonio went on to win the series in six games.
7. How many suspensions were handed out in the playoffs in 2007?

Answer: 3

All three suspensions came after the Suns-Spurs game 4 altercation where Robert Horry hip-checked Steve Nash to the floor. Horry received a flagrant 2, which lands an ejection. Amare Stoudamire and Boris Diaw both left their benches after the foul, causing a one game suspension of both players. Horry was suspended two games for the hit on Nash.
8. In the Western Conference Finals, were both teams coached by coaches who had been with that particular team for more than 10 years?

Answer: Yes

Both Gregg Popovich and Jerry Sloan were with the same team for more than 10 years (Popovich at 11 - all with San Antonio) and Sloan for 22 (19 with Utah).
9. Which two teams won their conference finals?

Answer: San Antonio and Cleveland

San Antonio defeated the Utah Jazz in five games, and the Cleveland Cavaliers crawled out of an 0-2 hole, winning their series in six over the top seeded Detroit Pistons.
10. Which team won the NBA title?

Answer: San Antonio

The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers four games to none.
