1. In which year were the club formed?

Answer: 1876

The club began life as Port Vale House, before changing to Burslem Port Vale in 1884. In the 1906-07 season, they became known as simply, Port Vale.
2. Where did the club first play their home games?

Answer: Limekiln Lane

Port Vale played at Limekiln Lane between 1875-81. Westport was their home between 1881-84, and Moorland Road for two years following. Athletic Ground was used by the club up until 1913. Port Vale played at the Recreation Ground between 1913-50, when they moved into Vale Park.
3. Who was the club's first manager in their history?

Answer: Sam Gleaves

Gleaves was the club's manager between 1896-1905, with Clare being in the hot seat between 1905-11. Walker had one season, with Myatt in charge between 1912-14. Port Vale managers over the years included Stanley Matthews, John Rudge, Brian Horton, and Martin Foyle.
4. Which team did Port Vale sign Danny Sonner from in 2005?

Answer: Peterborough United

A Northern Ireland international, Sonner began his career in 1990 with Wigan Athletic. The much-traveled midfielder had also played for Burnley, Bury, Ipswich Town, Sheffield Wednesday, Birmingham, Walsall, Notts Forest, and Peterborough.
5. In the 1932-33 season, Port Vale set a record for their highest League win. Who were they playing that day?

Answer: Chesterfield

Port Vale played all the listed teams that season, but it was on 24th September, 1933, when they beat Chesterfield 9-1 at home. It wasn't a successful season however, as Vale went on to finish 17th out of 22 teams, and crashed to some heavy defeats. Bradford City beat them 7-0, West Ham United won 5-0, and Grimsby Town beat Vale 6-1, to name a few.
6. Which of these played the most games for Port Vale?

Answer: Roy Sproson

Sproson played an amazing 761 League games for Port Vale, between 1950-72. Cheadle went on to play 332 League games between the years of 1946-57. Ainsworth played 55 League games between 1997-98, and Chamberlain played 96 League games during the years of 1972-82.
7. Port Vale first entered the Football League at the start of which season?

Answer: 1892-93

Burslem Port Vale, as they were known then, ended the 1892-93 Division Two season in 11th place out of 12. At a time when it was just two points for a win, Vale gained just 15 points, winning five games, drawing three, and losing 14.
8. In the 1958-59 season, Port Vale scored 110 League goals.

Answer: True

Vale won the Division Four title with 64 points out of a possible 92. While they scored 110 goals, they also conceded 88. Also promoted that season were Coventry City, York City, and Shrewsbury Town.
9. Port Vale had three managers in 1977. Roy Sproson was the first, and Colin Harper was the second. Who as the third?

Answer: Bobby Smith

Sproson, a former Vale player, left the club in October, 1977. Harper took over for two days, when Smith took the seat until May the following year.

Answer: Martin Foyle

Gennaro Ruotolo scored an hat-trick for Genoa, with Galante and Montella scoring the others. The game took place at Wembley Stadium, London, England, on 17th March, 1996.
