Answer: William Prunier

Prunier was a trialist brought in that season. He produced an awful display in the Tottenham game and was unsurprisingly not taken on!

2. The match immediately after Sir Matt Busby's death in 1994 was a home tie against Everton, which United won 1-0. Who scored the winning goal?

Answer: Ryan Giggs

As well as the traditional black armbands and minute's silence, the players were led on to the pitch by Scottish bagpipe players to honour Sir Matt.

Answer: Jesper Blomqvist

Blomqvist signed for United in pre-season 1998-99 along with Jaap Stam and Dwight Yorke. He was signed from serie A side Parma.

4. Which of these clubs was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed from?

Solskjaer came off the bench to score an equaliser against Blackburn Rovers in a 2-2 draw in August 1996. This was his debut. Ole Solskjaer could have become a professional wrestler in his native country!

Manchester United, the first English team to win the European Cup (1968), became the first English team to win the domestic Double and the European Cup (the Treble). The first British team to win the Treble were Celtic in 1967.

Denis Law scored the goal for Manchester City which condemmed United to Division Two. The game was actually abandoned soon after the goal due to a pitch invasion but other results meant that United would have gone down anyway so the result was allowed to stand.

Chelsea beat United 1-0 on that day as United finished a lowly 18th in the table.

United went on to win the treble that year but Irwin missed the FA Cup Final due to an unbelievable decision by referee David Elleray to send him off for "kicking the ball away".

The defeat in the final meant United were denied a domestic treble that year as they claimed the Premier League and the FA Cup. Les Sealey played in goal for United in the match as Peter Schmeichel was suspended due to a sending off against Charlton in the FA Cup that year.

Giggs went on to retain the PFA young players award in 1993. He set a record for the quickest ever Manchester United goal when he scored after 15 seconds in a 4-1 win over Southampton in November 1995.

Answer: Roy Keane

Ryan Giggs scored that wonder goal after coming off the bench (he was dropped for this game, and his place was taken by Blomqvist). Giggs suffered a bad injury in that game which kept him out of action until the penultimate league game at Ewood Park.

14. In what year were the club now known as Manchester United formed?

Answer: 1878

Manchester United were formed under the name of Newton Heath by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company. They played in Green and Gold shirts. They did not change their name to Manchester United until 1902.

Answer: all won 3 domestic doubles during the 1990s

Peter Schmeichel never received a testimonial as he was at the club for only 8 years, not 10 years. Roy Keane joined the club in the 1992-93 season so he hadn't been there 10 years. None of these four players played in the 1990 FA Cup Final as they had not yet joined United. Unfortunately for Ryan Giggs, Wales did not qualify for any of those three World Cups.

All 4 won the domestic double in 1994, 1996 and 1999 (as part of the treble).
