Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What did Cy Tolliver do that irritated Doc Cochran?

Answer: Doctored himself

Tolliver was still recovering from being stabbed in the stomach by Andy Cramed when Doc Cochran stopped in to check on him. The Doc could immediately tell that Cy had removed the bandages and done something to his wound.
2. What happened to Alma Ellsworth as she walked to the bank?

Answer: Shots were fired at her

As Alma strolled down the street alone, shots were fire in front of and in back of her by an unseen gunman. Al Swearengen and Charlie Utter rushed to her aid and hurried her into the Gem for safety. It was later surmised that the shots were merely meant to intimidate her, and she continued her solo march to her bank.
3. As the tensions in Deadwood intensified, Al Swearengen decided that it was necessary to have a guard at the schoolhouse. Which of the following did not stand guard over the children?

Answer: Seth Bullock

Immediately after shots were fired at Alma, Swearengen took charge and began barking orders to his men. He dispatched Silas Adams to guard the schoolchildren. He was later relieved by Utter, who thereafter relinquished his post to Joanie Stubbs, who was accompanied by Calamity Jane.
4. How did Dan Dority break the news about Alma to her husband?

Answer: Knocked him out

Knowing that Ellsworth would react violently, Dority wisely knocked him out and tied him up before telling him that someone had taken shots at his wife. As suspected, the heavily bound Ellsworth tugged and pulled at the ropes. Dority cut him loose only when he had calmed down and promised to take no action.
5. How did Richardson deliver a note to Al Swearengen?

Answer: Pinned to his shirt

E.B. Farnum was curious as to what was going on in the inner circles of Deadwood, and sent his employee to ask Swearengen. He could not trust the none-too-bright Richardson with remembering the message, so he pinned a note to Richardson's shirt. "Tell him nothing's going on." was Al's reply.
6. Was was the name of the new prostitute that was seeking employment at the Bella Union?

Answer: Janine

Cy Tolliver was in an extremely bad temper when he was approached by the job-seeking whore. He thought that her name was too difficult for his intoxicated clientele to pronounce and renamed her Stupid.
7. What happened when Con Stapleton came calling at Claudia's hotel room?

Answer: She told him to come back tomorrow

Claudia had no problem seducing Cy Tolliver's employee. Unfortunately for Stapleton, Claudia did not seem to enjoy the experience nearly as much as Con did, and she continued to decline his request for an encore.
8. George Hearst dispatched Barrett to deliver a message to Al Swearengen. How did Swearengen respond?

Answer: Cut Barrett's throat

Al was initially cordial to Hearst's messenger, sharing whiskey shots and war stories. Ultimately, Swearengen savagely beat Barrett in retaliation for what he had done to Merrick, Wu and Alma. After extracting information about Hearst ordering another 25 gunmen, Al slit the man's throat.
9. What was the name of the aspiring actress that Jack Langrishe agreed to allow to stay at the theatre?

Answer: Joseanne

Having displayed her dancing skills at Amateur Night, the young woman continued to follow the performing troupe in search of a job on stage. Langrishe described the very attractive young lady as a "woman of exotic appearance".
10. As the episode ended, Seth Bullock was trying to control his inner anger while he dined with Martha and Sol. In an attempt to distract his partner, Sol tried to engage in idle conversation about what subject?

Answer: Hardware business

Seth was barely able to control his rage about the events of the day and his guilt about being out of town on the campaign trail. He could have cared less that Sol had ordered some livery stable supplies for the hardware store's inventory.
