Merrick had allowed the Russian-born Blazanov to set up his telegraph operations in a corner of the newspaper's offices. Several townsmen were up early to get a copy of the issue that included Seth Bullock's letter of condolence to the family of a slain mine worker.

The new theatrical group in Deadwood had agreed to construct a new schoolhouse so they could set up their stage in the old brothel that Martha was using for a classroom. The General finally exacts his revenge by flinging spoonfuls of grits in the face of his now vegetative constant tormenter.
