Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Matt, Shelby, and Lee were aided by the police to locate Flora, however it was a local who found the nearby farmhouse.

Answer: False

After searching for Flora in the woods, Lee, Shelby, and Matt ended up finding her sweater high up in a dead tree. The cops were called in and the sweater-- definitely the girl's-- was taken down. Acting fast, Lee and the police spearheaded an effort, alongside volunteers, to start searching the woods around the property for the missing girl, eager to locate her before her chances of staying missing could increase.

Many volunteers ended up searching alone and, perhaps because of this, they came across unusual things. Lee found the head of a pig and pieces of Flora's doll torn apart in a clearing. Further along, she, Shelby, and Matt found a skeleton of a farmhouse
2. What word, perhaps a warning, did the crazed farm boys say during their interrogation?

Answer: Croatoan

Heading up to the nearby farmhouse, the trio found the head of Flora's doll...and the body of the decapitated pig...and decided to head inside to investigate. Once they walked into the unlocked front door, they found a home swarming with flies and rancid parts of dead animals No residents were inside. Out in the barn is where they found people-- two muddied teenaged boys were inside, drinking from a sow's teats.
The police were called in to deal with the situation and at the station they hypothesized that the Polk Family, who resided on the farm, was doing so illegally, leaving the boys behind as dead weight after kidnapping Flora and leaving. That's when Lee's ex, Mason, showed up.
In the interrogation room, a social worker tried to get the boys to speak, but they would only shout one word: CROATOAN.
3. Where did police find Mason's body?

Answer: In the woods

Over the next few days, everyone grabbed flashlights and continued searching, even through the night. Lee had to accept that she may be looking for her daughter's body. Matt suggested heading home for the night to relax, which they all did, but when they returned, Mason accused Lee of hiding Flora away to keep her to herself. Everyone fell asleep quickly after their long day, but Matt received a call in the middle of the night, waking him up.

He roused the others because the cops found a body, and when they arrived they didn't find Flora.

They found Mason, and he was tied up on a cross and burned over a fire.
4. From where did Cricket Marlow come to search for Flora?

Answer: New Orleans

The next day, Matt found something startling amongst his security camera alerts. As it seemed, Lee had left the house at 10:30pm and returned four hours later, seemingly following after Mason fifteen minutes after he left for the police station. Shelby suggested that maybe something would need to be done, but Lee overheard the conversation and decided to confront her in that moment. Matt decided that maybe they should leave the house, but at that moment, someone walked through the front door. That person was renowned psychic Cricket Marlow, who was called to North Carolina by a spirit.

He left his home in New Orleans and insisted he could help. He proved his worth when he navigated the house in his eccentric manner and located the crawlspace upstairs. Flora, he said, was not dead; she was with Priscilla, her imaginary friend.
5. Cricket, in an attempt to converse with Priscilla in a seance, instead came face to face with a woman known by what name?

Answer: The Butcher

Shelby believed that Cricket was authentic; Matt didn't. But what he was saying was convincing, and Shelby gave him permission to try to communicate with the other side in their house. Using his blood and some candles, he held a seance in their study in an effort to lure out Priscilla but instead came face to face with The Butcher, a spirit from the sixteenth century who, wielding a cleaver, showed her true power as a spirit by slicing the candle on their seance table in half.

She insisted that she did not take Flora-- Priscilla did, and hid her off the hallowed ground-- but she would not leave.

As she smashed the windows of the room, one at a time, Cricket chanted CROATOAN, and she was gone.
6. Flora was Lee's only child.

Answer: False

Cricket told the others that he had answers and while the spirits had Flora he could take Lee to see her...but only for $25,000. Matt, believing Cricket to be a con artist, claimed that he was a horrible person and asked him to leave, but not before Lee pulled a gun on him. Fortunately, Matt was able to calm her down and convince Cricket to leave, but not before the psychic whispered something to Lee about her first daughter, Emily, who asked why she stopped looking for her so long ago. The next day, Lee left to seek out Cricket's services.

Lee, shocked that the documentary producers know about Emily, angrily asks them to turn off the cameras. She later tells them that Emily was taken from her car when she went into a store. She was four at the time.
7. Tomaysn White was married to which of these?

Answer: A Governor

Lee paid Cricket the $25,000 and he said he would be able to help, but there were issues standing in their way. After he left, the spirits imprinted on his mind, and because of their strength they would have trouble defeating them unless they learned all they could. The Butcher, as he discovered, was a woman named Tomasyn White; her husband was the Governor of the Colony of Roanoke during the harsh times of settlement. Tomasyn was placed in charge while her husband returned to England for supplies.
Of course, this all involved the folk tale of the Lost Roanoke Colony.
8. Tomasyn's son, Ambrose, ends up doing which of the following as his mother is forced into exile?

Answer: Betraying her

Lee doubted, and continues to doubt, that Roanoke and the one hundred sixteen missing people of the colony had anything to do with her missing daughter, but Cricket seemed convinced, even though Roanoke itself was nowhere near the haunted house, geographically. Back in the sixteenth century, Tomasyn was captured by her fellow settlers and forced into exile by her fellow settlers as they planned to travel inland.

Her own son watched as they enacted their justice upon her and, for fear that his own life would end if he defied them, he betrayed her.

She was abandoned for days, but found, in the end, by a mysterious woman in the woods.
9. Surrendering herself to the mysterious woman in the woods, Tomasyn eats which of these?

Answer: A pig's heart

The mysterious woman appeared in Tomasyn's time of need. As Tomasyn was pursued by a wild boar, the woman leapt upon it, stabbing it and removing its beating heart, before breaking Tomasyn free of her trappings (without so much as a movement) and offering the heart to her as food. Of course, when Tomasyn ate the heart she surrendered herself to the woman.
In the night, Tomasyn returned, located a cleaver, and murdered the leaders of the settlement in their tent as they planned their next moves inland. Her own son bent to his knees seeking mercy...and she allowed it. They continued inland.
She would continue to claim the land as her own, and she would kill anyone living in the house.
10. Who called the cops on Lee?

Answer: Shelby

Matt and Shelby joined Lee and Cricket as they returned to the wilderness with the bonnet from the crawlspace. There, in the woods, they came across Tomasyn and some of her men. Cricket said that she would never have the peace she would seek, but if they worked together and the Roanoke colony could convince Priscilla to give up Flora, they would leave the land. That's when Shelby noticed that Matt was missing.
Matt never remembered slipping away after the fact, but when Shelby found him near the body of a pig, he was engaged in intercourse with a woman she had never seen-- a woman who Tomasyn met in the woods centuries ago.
Shelby returned to the house on her own and when Matt and Lee found her, the cops had been called. Shelby told Matt she knew everything he was doing, and the police took Lee away in the back of their cruiser.
