Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where did Shelby find the man with the pig's head inside the house?

Answer: In the bathtub

Shelby believed that Matt and Lee were conspiring against her and, after Lee was taken by the cops, Matt admitted that he couldn't remember what happened in the woods. Despite her insistence that he was with someone in the woods, he couldn't figure it out. That said, she realized, looking in his eyes, that he genuinely couldn't figure out what had happened. That night, getting ready for a shower, Shelby opened the shower curtain to find the man with the pig head staring back at her. What ensued was a chase through the house where she and Matt were able to take down the man, but he would appear before them once again.

They were saved by the mysterious professor from their found video; he stuck an axe into the man's back and shouted the word 'CROATOAN' before the horror had ended.
2. Elias asserts that the word 'CROATOAN' has roots in which of the following?

Answer: Blood magic

Later, during discussion, Shelby asked the Professor about the word 'CROATOAN', and he explained to her and Matt that the word was one of ancient blood magic used in the area in relation to the lost colony of Roanoke. In his studies over the course of six months in the house, he discovered that all previous tenants and owners died or vanished under mysterious circumstances.

Then, he became its guardian, living off the property but protecting it. Matt forced him to the door, but Shelby realized that Elias may be of use to them...so they headed to the basement.
3. Matt and Shelby's house was constructed by a man with what surname?

Answer: Mott

Elias gathered some of his research to tell Matt and Shelby about the Chen Family, who resided in the house in the 1970s in an effort to pursue the American Dream. During dinner one night, they heard a horrible sound upstairs and were surprised to find two wild boars fighting on the second floor. Soon, the apparitions began and fought with a vengeance.

They attempted to pray to their ancestors, but the people of the Lost Colony arrived and ended their lives. They never had a chance. The history of the house, as they discovered, dated back to the late eighteenth century.

The first man to disappear was Edward Philippe Mott, who built the house.
4. All victims of the house were killed in what month?

Answer: October

Elias continued with the murderous sisters who, despite their own bloodlust, were terrified while living in the house. Both of them were killed by the spirits in the house and, in death, told Elias of their date; one was torn at the arms and the other was beheaded.
Elias informed the couple that everyone who died in the house was killed during the same period of the October lunar cycle during the 'dying grass moon', six days from the first quarter moon to the blood moon. The spirits can't kill at any other time. And the first day of the cycle was that very night.
They made way to leave, but Matt insisted that they couldn't leave without Flora, even if only to clear Lee's name. Elias, however, knew where Priscilla liked to play.
5. Did Matt and Shelby locate Flora in the woods?

Answer: Yes

Matt, Shelby, and Elias ended up back in the woods where, in the trees, Matt and Shelby spotted the woman from the forest the previous night. Shelby was compelled to chase her in anger, but ended up lost in a clearing, coming face to face with three hunters who killed themselves in the house in the 1950s.

Despite her shouts of 'CROATOAN', they wouldn't disappear; the time of the blood moon had begun. They found Flora, then, in a clearing, but she was surrounded by many of the dead (including the murderous nurse, the Chens, and the pig man). Among them was Priscilla. Elias moved forward to try and reason with the girl, but was struck by several arrows to the torso.
6. What, according to Cricket, allowed the lost colony to live fruitfully for many years?

Answer: Human sacrifice

Matt and Shelby returned to the house to find that Cricket had already returned to await them. He spoke to The Butcher again, but time had run out. Nonetheless, he had to speak to her again. When he came back hours later, he revealed that he came face to face with the one with the real power, and she brought him centuries into the past to reveal the truth.

The Lost Colony of Roanoke was never lost. They lived in the horn of plenty on their land, but to get to that point, they had to perform human sacrifice. To escape the woman from the woods, Cricket explained, he had to offer something to satisfy her needs; he offered Matt.
7. With which of these was The Butcher able to poison her own people?

Answer: Fruit

Despite their harvests, Cricket explained, the people of Roanoke had their backs against the wall with human sacrifices. It was The Butcher's own son, Ambrose, who began speaking out about their turning away from faith to serve the witch of the woods.

He claimed that they would all return to the coast and await his father's ships to take them home. The Butcher claimed to the witch that she would fear mutiny, but an idea formed soon after. That evening, during a final feast, The Butcher falsely repented her sins and, unbeknownst to the settlers, poisoned her people with a poisonous fruit, stabbing her son and chopping the rest with her cleaver under the blood moon.
8. Who killed The Butcher?

Answer: The witch of the woods

Her sacrifice complete, The Butcher waited for the word of her witch, the woman of real power in the woods, and was met with her own blood. The witch sliced The Butcher's throat as the final sacrifice, consecrating the ground and binding the colony to it for all eternity. Every year, on the anniversary of the slaughter, the spirits would pack a lethal punch. Cricket was shown a spell though. That night, he would put an end to all of the trouble, but first he would need to return to his hotel room to grab a few essentials.

When his Uber arrived, however, they nearly hit Flora on the way off the property. Cricket had no choice but to pursue her.
9. From where did the witch of the woods allegedly hail?

Answer: England

Matt and Shelby got themselves ready for the evening with Matt allowing Shelby to sleep while he watched over her. Unfortunately, both of them lost track of time. Matt woke up at night. Retrieving a gun, he proceeded outside, alone, and was drawn out by the whispers to find the light of candles in the storm cellar.

It was the woman from the woods, and he couldn't resist her. Through her touch and her words, she revealed her story to him; she was from the old world, born English, and when she stowed away on a ship to the new continent, she was found and blamed for misfortune on the sea.

She would be burned as a witch at the stake, but the gods had another plan for her. She was created by the old gods and the new world. Matt claimed he would've joined her.
10. Who was able to distract The Butcher long enough for Flora to escape her grasp?

Answer: Priscilla

Shelby woke up, alone, and began her search for Matt, quickly finding the front door open. What she found waiting outside was a mob of colonists. Matt heard her screams and tore himself away from the woman in the cellar and returned to her side. It was Priscilla who helped in the end, distracting The Butcher long enough for Flora to be freed from her grasp. They escaped into the house, but Flora made it clear that something was amiss, and when Shelby looked out the window, she saw that Cricket had been captured.
In an interview, Cricket's Uber driver claims that he never returned to the car.
That night, Cricket was murdered, his intestines disembowelled and his blood used in the sacrifice to the moon.
