Recurring events from "The Andy Griffith Show" Quiz

The "TAGS" writers certainly believed in the adage about not changing a good thing. Many plot elements were used several times. But they never got boring, and were always funny! See if you can spot the fake incidents. This is for the B&W episodes ONLY.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Barney seemed to resign from the "force" every time he got his feelings hurt. In fact, Andy had a separate file folder just for the paperwork. Which of these did NOT cause him to quit?

Answer: He was going leave Mayberry after a fight with Thelma Lou

Barney was certainly a "sensitive soul", and it didn't take much to set him off.
2. Poor Opie! Such a great kid, but so often accused of doing something wrong! His Pa always realized (within 30 minutes) that it was a misunderstanding, and all was forgiven. Which did NOT happen?

Answer: Lied to Andy about getting "straight As"

The incorrect report card was due to Mrs. Crump's error, not a lie by Opie. Opie was actually saving his money to buy his girlfriend a much-needed coat. And Jubal's moonshine business started the fire. ("Jubal, Jubal, Jubal!")
3. The glass front of the book cabinet in the courthouse was broken in several unfortunate incidents. Which of these was NOT one of them?

Answer: Ernest T. Bass threw a rock

But I'm sure if Ernest T. had been given a chance, he would have done it! It turned out that Virgil had a real knack for getting things done, but only when no one was watching him. And Andy gave Newton a false sense of confidence, causing him to start on a career as a house painter; which we would assume didn't go well. :-(
4. "I am not superstitious!", declared Barney. Three of these incidents disproved that statement. Which did NOT happen?

Answer: Avoided stepping on cracks in sidewalk

Oh, and he was also very reluctant to go into the "haunted house" for the boys' baseball.
5. Mr. Griffith was well-known before the show for comedy records featuring his home-spun humor. Which of these was NOT one of the down-home stories he told during the series?

Answer: Aesop's Fable

Paul Revere and Romeo-Juliet stories were told to Opie and the boys. He started telling the Jack story to help Otis sleep. Aesop's Fable was one of Andy Griffith's stories, but not in the series.
6. Hard to count how many stills the guys broke up throughout the show! Which of these was NOT the location of a still?

Answer: 411 Elm Street

During his failed hypnosis, Otis said the still was at 411 Elm Street. It took Barney a moment to realize that was his address!
7. It's hard to "un-see" Barney dressed as a woman. Mr. Knotts was one of the funniest people ever, but never accused of being handsome. But CERTAINLY didn't make an attractive lady! Which of these attires did he NOT assume?

Answer: Lady mannequin in Weaver's store

His mannequin disguise in the department store was as a hunter, not a lady.
8. Ernest T. Bass (played by the amazing Howard Morris) had one method of getting revenge: chunking rocks through windows! Which of these did NOT instigate a rock-tossing episode?

Answer: Teased by Opie and his friends

The only rock-throwing I recall involving Opie and his friends was breaking a street light.
9. Barney just couldn't get over the idea that Andy and Helen were about to get married. Which of these events did NOT occur?

Answer: Thought he overheard Andy proposing to Helen

Can't really blame Barney for wanting the best for the couple. He just got a LITTLE overzealous; as usual.
10. Naive Aunt Bee was always falling for some fellow (or pretending to). But the romances never worked out. Which of these gents did Aunt Bee NOT show interest in?

Answer: Briscoe Darling

Aunt Bee did her best to DISCOURAGE Briscoe's advances. Finally resorting to rapping him on the knuckles!
11. In addition to his true love, Thelma Lou, several women either "had a thing" for Barney, or pretended to. Which lady did NOT flirt with Barney?

Answer: Ramona Ancrum

Ramona went frolicking off with fellow "nut" Ernest T. Bass. But she never showed interest in Barney.
12. Andy had several girl friends before he chose Helen; who he later married, of course. Which of these was NOT one?

Answer: Charlene Darling

Charlene was always "swooning" over Andy, but he had no interest in her. Things just didn't work out with Peggy or Sharon. And Ellie's character disappeared after season one.
13. Some carpenter in Mayberry must have kept very busy patching bullet holes in floors. Miraculously, there were never any holes in Barney's foot! Which of these was NOT one of the deputy's gun mishaps?

Answer: Gun went off while he was cleaning it

Research shows that there were eleven instances where Barney misfired his gun. Too many to list here!
14. Poor Gomer! Always seemed to fail at his assignments! Which of these was NOT one of the failures?

Answer: Mixed up Andy's message about needing $25 for a license

It was Goober, not Gomer, who mangled up Andy's message when giving it to Barney.
15. It seemed like every time Barney went into one of the cells, he managed to lock himself (and sometimes Andy) in. Which of these was NOT one of those occasions?

Answer: While trying to psychoanalyze Otis

This certainly happened many other times, but these are the ones I could recall. And of course the key, which was normally left hanging on the wall right outside the cells, always happened to be somewhere else. :-( So if you didn't see the key on the hook, you could guess what was coming next!
