Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Gloomy Gulch primarily features which type of setting?

Answer: Forest

While a gulch would seem more arid, Gloomy Gulch is actually a haunted forest; three of its five levels take place in the woods and one brings the Kongs to a haunted building. As with the previous areas of the game, levels are constructed between large pitfalls, forcing Diddy and Dixie to cross them by whatever means necessary, whether that means using the local environment to their advantage or transforming into other creatures. Gloomy Gulch comes after Krazy Kremland on the map, and is the fifth stage of the game.
2. Ghostly Grove is the first level to feature Ghost Ropes. This disappear and reappear in which of the following intervals?

Answer: The number varies

Ghostly Grove brings the Kongs to their first-ever forest level in this game (as there were many forest levels in the first "Donkey Kong Country"). Unfortunately, things are a bit spooky. On top of the woods being full of enemies, there are also Ghost Ropes, spectral threads that Diddy and Dixie can hang onto to jump to other locations.

These ropes also happen to disappear and reappear at regular intervals, though these intervals vary from rope to rope. One can flip back and forth every five seconds, and another many disappear within one. Let's just say that the further you go in the level, the quicker things seem to move.
3. In Haunted Hall, you can strike barrels with a plus sign on the front. What do these do?

Answer: Add to a timer

Haunted Hall is the final skull car level of the game, and like the previous ones in Krazy Kremland, it involves a mine-cart-esque track ride to the finish line. In this case, however, the Kongs need to take a trip through sections of an old building teeming with giant Kremling ghosts, and the only way to make it through is by passing through gates before a timer runs out. Luckily, you can increase the time by hitting green plus barrels; red minus barrels reduce the time.
4. In Gusty Glade, does the wind only ever blow one direction?

Answer: No

Wouldn't that make things easier? At this point in the game, five stages in and on the third level, things just aren't that simple. In Gusty Glade the Kongs return to the forest, this time to leap over large gaps and control their movements int he face of horrible winds.

While early winds move speedily from left to right to guide the Kongs along, they'll soon be a hindrance to their movement by going from right to left. As they get further in the level, it'll alternate back and forth or stop almost immediately.
5. Parrot Chute Panic takes place in which setting?

Answer: Hive

In the final hive level of the game (making a total of four when you include the two others, and boss battle, in Krazy Kremland), Diddy and Dixie need to descend into a narrow chute of honeycombs while avoiding Zingers galore on the way down. To begin, they have to hang on in the talons of Quawks, a blue parrot who is unable to shoot crackers at enemies like his green counterpart.

Instead, he fires off a cracker only when the Kongs need to disembark. Squawks does not appear in the level proper. Quawks reappears in "Donkey Kong Country 3".
6. Swanky Kong does not appear in Gloomy Gulch.

Answer: False

Swanky does, in fact, show up in the area though he is one of the last Kongs you'll come across; you can only visit him after you complete the Parrot Chute Panic level, the fourth of the area. Completion of this level will also grant access to Funky's Flights (which precedes the fifth level) and Klubba's Kiosk, making this particular junction a real boon. Once more, Swanky rewards the Kongs with extra lives provided they answer some difficult trivia questions about the game (and series).
7. After which level does Wrinkly Kong appear in Gloomy Gulch?

Answer: Gusty Glade

In one of Wrinkly's later appearances (especially trying considering the rising difficulty), she makes camp in her Kong Kollege after the stage's third stage, Gusty Glade. As always, the cost is two Banana Coins to save progress (unless it's your first visit to that particular Kollege). Cranky Kong is actually the first Kong to appear, showing up immediately after the first level, Ghostly Grove.

At the point you meet Wrinkly, there's still no sight of Funky Kong's Flights and, thus, no leaving Gloomy Gulch.

He doesn't appear until after the penultimate level, Parrot Chute Panic.
8. What is the final level, before the boss, in Gloomy Gulch?

Answer: Web Woods

Web Woods is the final forest level of the game and it takes Diddy and Dixie into a foggy, autumnal glade filled with enemies (as these things tend to do). The only difference this time is that the large gaps and dangerous expanses have to be navigated using only Squitter the Spider; they transmogrify themselves early on in the level, taking on Squitter's form to web their way through the trees.

This is Squitter's last level in the game unless you visit the Lost World levels.
9. Which previous boss makes an appearance during the final battle of Gloomy Gulch?

Answer: Krow

As is the case with many "Donkey Kong" platformers, a former boss returns from the dead to wreak havoc. In this case, it's all too true. The ghost of Krow (dubbed Kreepy Krow) has returned to a new krow's nest to fight once more. The battle is quite dissimilar to the first.

Instead of eggs, you throw barrels; instead of four hits, it only takes three to win. The difference is that barrels only appear when you hit a non-spectral Mini-Necky, and between each round you need to avoid eggs being thrown at you (from all angles) while climbing a complicated rope and hook course up the mast.
10. Visiting Klubba's Kiosk and heading into the Lost World from Gloomy Gulch will cost you how many DK Coins?

Answer: None

As always, Klubba's Kiosk operates solely on Kremcoins, the collectibles you receive upon completing Bonus Barrels or Boss Battles; DK Coins are not used for this purpose. Like the three Kiosks before it, the one in Gloomy Gulch takes the Kongs into the Lost World for a new, difficult level.

This time, the new one is a lava stage-- Fiery Furnace. While the construction doesn't differ too much from the levels in Crocodile Cauldron, you need to cross gaps, for the first time, using self-guided barrels. You can control the movement of the barrel, but not the direction it shoots.

It's also a timed barrel, firing you off no matter what when the timer is up.
