Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Nintendo Wii introduced the world to brand new IPs like "Madworld" and "No More Heroes" but there were also many returning IPs. For instance, there was a number of games that were remade for the Wii--'WiiMakes' if you will. Which of these games is NOT a WiiMake?

Answer: "Samba de Amigo"

"Samba de Amigo" for the Wii is an enhanced port of the original Dreamcast game with superior graphics, new controls and new stages based off of Sega properties such as "Sonic" and "Space Channel 5". The Wii version also includes a Career mode in which players must complete challenges in order to unlock additional songs and maraca effects.
2. When a game sells well, a sequel is pretty much in the bag. However, this doesn't always stop gaming companies from deciding to try out a different genre in the next game. Which of these sequels stayed true to the genre of the original?

Answer: "Castlevania II: Simon's Quest"

"Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures" took the puzzle-like original and turned it into a point-and-click adventure. "Toejam & Earl" was an dungeon crawler-esque game while the sequel was a 2D platformer. "Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond" went from being a third-person shooter to a 2D sidescrolling shooter.

While more open-ended than the previous title, "Castlevania II: Simon's Quest" still stayed true to the series action-platforming roots.
3. A series that releases three games is either part of a pre-planned trilogy or the start of something wonderful. Garnering enough interest in one sequel is tough enough but to warrant a third game would require a great deal of interest and high sales. Which of these games is NOT the third in the series?

Answer: "Sonic 3"

Released in 1993, "Sonic CD" was actually the third game in the franchise. Though released exclusively on the Sega CD at the time, the game was still highly praised for its gameplay, level design and soundtracks, one for the original Japanese version and a remade one for the American port. "Sonic CD" is regularly regarded as the greatest game in the franchise.

When the game was ported to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, Tails was released as a new playable character.
4. Sadly, many popular games from the arcades never found their way onto the consoles. As a result, many gamers have sought out emulators to play the games that they would be otherwise unable to. Which of these arcade sequels never had a console port?

Answer: "Columns II"

"Columns" is a vertical puzzle game for the Sega Genesis that is similar to "Tetris". In the game, players are tasked with connecting three or more blocks with the same color in order to get rid of them and obtain points. "Columns III" was also released on the Sega Genesis and introduced a story mode that featured power-ups with various effects.

The second game in the series however never found its way out of the arcade.
5. The advent of 3D gaming in the late 1990s helped the gaming industry evolved like never before. Old franchises had new life breathed into them and the 3D plane introduced the world to countless new series. Which of these 3D sequels came first?

Answer: "Donkey Kong 64"

Released in 1999, "Donkey Kong 64" was the first fully-3D platformer in the franchise. It featured Donkey Kong and the DK Crew as they fought the forces of King K. Rool in an attempt to get back their golden bananas. The game currently holds the world record for 'Most Collectible Items in a Platform Game'.
6. Now that you've got a feeling on how this quiz works, let's toss a monkey wrench into that train of thought. Which of these games is NOT a sequel?

Answer: "Super Castlevania IV"

"Panzer Dragoon Orta" is the third game in the series, "Amplitude" is the sequel to "Frequency" and "Gunstar Super Heroes" is a remake of the original Sega Genesis classic that also continues the story line set in place by its predecessor.

Despite what its name implies, "Super Castlevania IV" is actually a remake of the original "Castlevania". This is the game that introduced the track 'Simon's Theme' and is also the first time that players could 'waggle' the whip after holding down the attack button. It is also regarded as the greatest of the 'traditional' "Castlevania" titles.
7. Sometimes, a game goes forgotten for many years before being brought back. Usually, this results in a remake of some sort but in other cases, it just receives a sequel. Which of these modern-day games is actually a sequel?

Answer: "ZombiU"

"ZombiU" was created by Ubisoft as a launch title for the Nintendo Wii U. What many people don't realize is that it is actually a sequel/remake of 1986's "Zombi" which was Ubisoft's first game. Players control four protagonists and guide them through a zombie infested mall. Upon death, a protagonist becomes a zombie and roams the room they died in.
8. When "Megaman 10" came out, there were several special stages that featured new bosses Enker, Punk and Ballade. The only problem is that these weren't actually new bosses. Instead, they originally heralded from the oft-forgotten Gameboy "Megaman" titles. Which of the Gameboy "Megaman" games did NOT feature one of the returning bosses?

Answer: "Megaman II"

Enker was the first fortress stage boss in "Megaman: Dr. Wily's Revenge", Punk appeared in "Megaman III" and Ballade was one of the bosses from "Megaman IV". In "Megaman II" however, Megaman fought Quint which was a remodeled version of his future self that Wily kidnapped from the future.

Though the last four Gameboy titles share their names with the NES games, the difference between the two is the the NES titles are written out using Arabic numerals ("Megaman 2", "Megaman 3", "Megaman 4", "Megaman 5") while the Gameboy titles are written out using Roman numerals ("Megaman II", "Megaman III", "Megaman IV", "Megaman V").
9. In 2012, "Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed" introduced new playable characters and tracks based on Sega properties that were not in the original "Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing". Which of the following games did NOT have a playable character or track to its name in the sequel?

Answer: "Ristar"

After repeated fan requests for Ristar to appear in "Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing", Sega released the Death Egg DLC pack which gave players a new stage, new music and Metal Sonic as a playable character. At one point in the stage, Ristar can be seen clearly waving to the passing vehicles on the right-hand side. Though he takes over Nights' position as flagman in the sequel, Ristar doesn't have an actual track to his name nor is he playable.

Hey, someone's gotta wave that flag.
10. Occasionally, a one-shot game will garner enough popularity to warrant a sequel. Whether or not the series goes on from there all depends on sales. Which of these one-shots managed to get a sequel?

Answer: "Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja"

"Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja" is about a group of shinobi that are relieved of their duties at the beginning of the game. After angering the gods of a nearby village, the arrogant kunoichi Izuna spends much of the first game journeying through randomly-generated dungeons to defeat them. In "Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns", her friend Shizune goes off in search of her sister only to find that foreign gods have arrived in Japan, causing Izuna to leap into action once more.

While "Puggsy" on the Sega Genesis promised a sequel, it never sold well enough to warrant one and while "Shadow of Destiny" creator Junko Kawano did make another game with a similar concept to "Shadow", there is no connection between the two.
