Bill Clinton Trivia Quiz

I cannot believe there is not a quiz about this controversial figure. Clinton was a masterful politician and perhaps that is why people had such strong feelings about him.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the individual on death row in Arkansas who was executed while Clinton was campaigning?

Answer: Rickey Ray Rector

Clinton did not want to look weak on crime like Dukakis, especially after the Willie Horton Ads run by the Bush campaign. Rector was probably retarded. He left some of his last meal so he could eat the rest later as he went off to get executed.
2. What is the name of the welfare bill that Clinton signed?

Answer: Personal Responsibility & Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996

Mixed reviews on this one. Many of the liberals in the administration felt betrayed and felt any success it may have had was due to a booming economy. Others feel it has reduced the welfare rolls and it was a smart political move by Clinton to get re-elected.
3. At what age did Clinton first become Governor of Arkansas?

Answer: 32

Clinton was 32 when he became governor of Arkansas in 1978. He was the youngest governor in the nation.
4. Who was the House Speaker elect that declined the position after his illicit affairs were revealed in the wake of Clinton's impeachment?

Answer: Bob Livingston

I believe this information was revealed by Salon. The publisher of Hustler Magazine, Larry Flynt was also offering large sums of cash for information about infidelities by Republicans. Was this underhanded conduct that was encouraged by the Clinton administration or was it simply meant to display the hypocrisy by the Clinton antagonists?
5. Who was the head of the Judiciary Committee at the time of Clinton's impeachment, later revealed to have had an illicit affair of his own 30 years earlier?

Answer: Henry Hyde

Hyde was adamant that he would not be intimidated, but opponents felt that what was good for the goose was good for the gander.
6. How much money was spent on the Whitewater investigation?

Answer: 52 million

The investigation went on for years and cost the Clintons millions in legal expeditures but it did not result in prosecution.
7. How much of the national debt was paid off from 1997 to 2000?

Answer: 355 billion

A large contrast to the 1980s and early 21st century. Some would suggest that many of the ideas and much of the pressure for the cost-cutting came from a Republican-dominated Congress.
8. What was the percentage of unemployment in 1999?

Answer: 4.2%

It was the lowest in 30 years. The Clinton years had multiple positive economic indicators despite the predictions of almost all economists that the nation was due for an economic correction.
9. What scholastic award did Clinton fulfill from 1968-1970?

Answer: Rhodes Scholar

He was an intellectual that won the presidency without that term becoming the perjorative that it was when Adlai Stevenson ran. Clinton went to school in Oxford, England where he overwhelmed many with his personality. Some even predicted at that time that he would be the future president of the United States.
10. Which President did Clinton have his picture taken with when he was an Arkansas delegate to Boy's Nation?

Answer: Kennedy

The picture was taken 4 months before Kennedy's assassination. The picture is one of Clinton's prized possessions and appears in almost every biography of Clinton that has even a modicum of positive information.
