A Colourful Walk Trivia Quiz
I went out for a stroll and saw quite a few colourful sights on my way. You just need to fill in the correct colour in each blank to make my story about the walk make sense. There's a mix of topics from various categories.
I was in London, so went for a walk in one of the city's Royal parks. This one is named Park. I admired the flowers I saw, some of which have the common name of s but are officially called Dianthus. To my surprise, I bumped into singer Joe , minus his 'Bruvvers'.
We reminisced for a short time about Cilla Black and how much we missed her and he reminded me that her real surname was . I sat down for a short rest and read a few pages of the C S Lewis book I found in my bag. It was called 'The Chair'.
I asked a passer-by if they could direct me to Earl 's Monument, but she pointed out that I was in the wrong city. That statue is in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. To hide my embarrassment, I quickly found my way to friars Bridge, one of many which cross the River Thames, so that watching the water could calm me down.
Passing a cinema, I saw that it was showing two old films. One starred Gene Wilder and was called 'The Woman in ' while David Lynch was the director of the other one, called ' Velvet'. I didn't have enough time to spare to watch either, so put my headphones on and listened to Coldplay and Donovan who both wrote songs about the colour .
Seeing some children playing reminded me that my own children used to love watching 'Teletubbies'. was the colour worn by Tinky Winky. Deciding to head home, I made for the Underground. is the colour of the shortest of the many lines of the Tube. This line is known as the Waterloo and City Line and was the first stage of my journey home.
London has eight parks which are officially designated as Royal Parks. Hyde Park is the largest of these and the others include Regent Park, Richmond Park and Kensington Gardens. They are all open to the public and free of charge. The Green Park is very near Buckingham Palace and was created on the orders of Charles II in 1660. The park does not actually have formal flower beds but it does have woodlands and wildflowers. These could include pinks, one of the flower types in the Dianthus family which also includes carnations and sweet Williams. Although the flowers are often cultivated now, they are also found in the wild in Europe, including in the Alps.
Joe Brown, whose backing group was called the Bruvvers, was particularly popular in the early 1960s with UK hits such as 'A Picture of You' (1962) and 'That's What Love Will Do' (1983). Although not so much in the public eye in the twenty-first century, Joe was still touring in the 2010s and has also presented radio shows. Cilla Black, who was originally Priscilla White, was helped in establishing her career by The Beatles, who persuaded their manager, Brian Epstein, to take her on. This paid off as Cilla had numerous hits before transitioning to television, where she was the long time host of both 'Blind Date'. and 'Surprise Surprise'. She died unexpectedly in 2015 when a fall caused a brain haemorrhage.
'The Silver Chair' is part of C S Lewis's 'Chronicles of Narnia'. It was first published in 1953 and was the fourth to be released. Chronologically, it is the seventh in the series. The story takes place several decades later in Narnia time than its predecessor, 'The Voyage of the Dawn Treader'. The dashing Prince Caspian is now an old man but his son is missing and Aslan calls back Eustace from England, where only one year has passed.
Charles Grey, the second holder of the title Earl Grey, was Prime Minister of Britain from 1930 to 1834. The statue in Newcastle was erected primarily in response to his involvement in the Great Reform Act of 1831. A statue of Grey is at the top of a Doric column. Grey was local to Newcastle, so that's why the statue is there and not London. At the time of writing, there are no statues of him in the capital.
Blackfriars Bridge crosses the Thames between Southwark and the historic area of the City of London, home to the business and financial areas of the city/ The first bridge to bear the name was built in 1769 and replaced a hundred years later by the bridge still standing in the 2020s. It is classed as a Grade I listed building.
The films mentioned are 'The Woman in Red' from 1984 and 'Blue Velvet' from 1986. The genres are completely different as 'The Woman in Red' is a romantic comedy while 'Blue Velvet' is a thriller. In the first film Gene Wilder plays a married man who becomes infatuated with another woman while Kyle MacLachlan gets caught up in a rather surreal, and criminal, situation in a typical David Lynch film. The two songs I listened to were Coldplay's 'Yellow', from 2000 and 'Mellow Yellow', released by Donovan in 1966. Both songs did well in the charts in the UK and USA for the respective artistes.
Although aimed at young children, 'Teletubbies' developed something of a cult following particularly among students. All four of the characters could have fitted in the quiz as Po was red, Dipsy was green and Laa-Laa was yellow. As I'd already used those colours, it was the final Teletubby, named Tinky Winky, that I picked to represent the colour purple (instead of Alice Walker's 'The Color Purple'). The final colour in my story is turquoise, the colour of an underground line which has only two stops, Bank and Waterloo. The primary purpose is to allow passengers from the mainline Waterloo station to reach other parts of the tube. The line is just under a mile and a half in length, or 2.4km in metric.
