1. Which east European/west Asian country made its debut in the contest in 2008?

Answer: Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan made its debut in the contest with the song "Day After Day" sung by Elnur & Samir. They came eighth overall just ahead of Israel. This score however is their lowest, as since 2008 they have always placed in the top five.
2. After hosting the 2008 contest in Serbia, Zeljko Joksimović entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012 with what song?

Answer: Nije Ljubav Stvar

2012 was Zeljko Joksimović's second appearance in the contest; he represented Serbia and Montenegro in 2004. Overall they came third in the grand final hosted in Azerbaijan.
3. Which of these acts didn't compete in 2011?

Answer: Mandinga

Mandinga was the Romanian entry in the 2012 contest with the song "Zaleilah". They came 14th in the grand final. Blue competed for the United Kingdom in 2011 and placed 11th. Eldrine was the Georgian entry in 2011 and she placed ninth. Stella Mwangi was the entry for Norway in 2011 with the song "Haba Haba". It was the first song to be sung in Swahili in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Rybak's winning score of 387 was a whopping 169 points above second place! Norway received a massive 16, 12 points from other countries, 10 more than any other country. This record score surpassed the previous record of 292 set by the 2006 performers Lordi.

The hall was built in order to host the 2012 contest; during the final, a sped up video was shown of the construction of the hall. It can hold 25,000 people. The construction of the arena was expected to be finished on 31 March 2012. However, the construction was delayed by three weeks because of bad weather conditions, and the building was completed on 16 April 2012.
7. 2011 saw the return of which country after a 14 year break?

Answer: Italy

Italy competed in 1997 before taking a 14 year break until deciding in 2011 to make a return with Raphael Gualazzi and the song "Madness Of Love". They came a very respectable second. In 1997, their last performance before their return, Jalisse represented Italy with the song "Fiumi di parole" and placed fourth.
8. Jade Ewen competed in 2009 with the song "It's My Time". Who composed the song?

Answer: Andrew Lloyd Webber, Diane Warren

Webber and Warren are said to have written this song in two hours. It gave the UK their best result since 2002 as they came fifth. It reached 27th on the UK singles chart and 34th on the Swedish singles chart.
9. The 2010 Israeli song "Milim" came 14th in the grand final. What does "Milim" mean in English?

Answer: Words

"Milim" was sung by Harel Skaat; he came eighth in his semi-final and fourteenth in the grand final. It was composed by Tomer Adaddi. Skaat explained to the press that "Milim" is about loss, and that for him, it has a deeper meaning. Harel Skaat said his grandfather died just days before the selections in Israel so he felt that he was really singing this song for him.
10. Why did Hungary not participate in the 2010 contest?

Answer: Financial difficulties of the national broadcaster

They withdrew from the 2010 Contest, due to financial difficulties of the national broadcaster, Magyar Televízió, MTV. They returned to the contest in 2011 with the song "What About My Dreams?". They placed 22nd in the final.
