The original version of the song "Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home)" was recorded on September 11, 1962, and released in December 1962. It was sung and co-written by Marvin Gaye.

Paul Young's version was released on 23 July 1983 and spent three weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart. The song was taken from Paul's debut solo studio album, "No Parlez," which was released on 22 July 1983 and also reached number one on the UK Albums Chart.

7. "Reet Petite"

"Reet Petite (The Sweetest Girl in Town)" was originally released by Jackie Wilson in 1957. The song was reissued in 1986 and spent four weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart. By this time, Jackie Wilson had passed away three years earlier, before the song became a hit in the UK.

The song became a hit because the UK TV channel BBC2 aired a clay animation video of Wilson singing the song on the documentary series "Arena".
8. "China in Your Hand"

T'Pau released the single "China in Your Hand" on 12 October 1987. The song was reworked from the original version on T'Pau's debut album, *Bridge of Spies*, which was released on 14 September 1987. It became a number one hit for the band in the UK, where it stayed at the top for five weeks, as well as in Belgium, Iceland, Norway, and several other countries.

T'Pau was formed in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England, in 1986. Their debut single, "Heart and Soul", was released on 9 February 1987 and reached number four on both the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. On 18 January 1988, the group released their fifth single, "Valentine." The song peaked at number nine on the UK Singles Chart but did not chart on the Billboard.
9. "The Only Way Is Up" (Yazz)

Originally released in 1980 and performed by Otis Clay, the version by Yazz and the Plastic Population was released on July 11, 1988. "The Only Way Is Up" spent five weeks at the top of the UK Singles Chart and also reached number one in several other countries, including Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, and New Zealand.

The song was the debut single for Yazz and also the first single from her debut album, "Wanted," which was released on 14 November 1988, reaching number three on the UK Albums Chart.
10. "Swing the Mood"

This single was not your normal recording, as it was a mixture of classic songs from the late 1930s through the 1960s. The centrepiece of the single was "In the Mood" by Glenn Miller, known for its iconic big band sound. The song was released by the British band Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers, a novelty act.

Not only did the song top the charts for five weeks in the UK, but it also became a number one hit in 13 other countries worldwide, including Australia, Denmark, France, and Norway.
