Sir Alexander Fleming shared the 1945 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Howard Floery and Ernst Chain. The Scottish physician and microbiologist was responsible for discovering penicillin and the use of it to cure infectious diseases. His discovery has saved countless lives.

The hottest ticket on Broadway beginning in 2015 was "Hamilton". The play paid homage to one of the founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton, and was created by and starring Lin-Manuel Miranda. The television vampire series, "True Blood" was based on "The Southern Vampire Mysteries" by author Charlaine Harris. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won the National Basketball League most valuable player award for the 2024-2025 season. The point guard led the Oklahoma City Thunder to their first NBA title the same year.
