1. U.S. COLLEGE FOOTBALL - Which team won the 1898 National Championship?

Answer: Harvard Crimson

The Harvard Crimson had a 11-0 season and outscored its opponents 257-19. The team was playing its first season of games at Soldier's Field. Seven of Harvard's opponents were shut out. The coach, William Cameron Forbes was in his second year of coaching.
2. AMERICAN FOOTBALL - Which city was the home of the 1898 Champions from the Western Pennsylvania Professional Football Circuit?

Answer: Pittsburgh

The Western Pennsylvania Professional Football Circuit existed from 1890 to 1940. Duquesne Country and Athletic Club played from 1895 to 1900 and had its home in Pittsburgh. The team accumulated a record of 11-0-1 for the 1898 season, otscoring its opponents 361-5. Roy Jackson was the coach. Following the season, the team competed in the first All-Star Game, winning 16-0.
3. AMERICAN FOOTBALL - Which NFL team would the Morgan Athletic Club later become?

Answer: Arizona Cardinals

The Morgan Athletic Club was organized on the South Side of Chicago. The team acquired its team colors from its used red uniforms, which were described as Cardinal. The team became a charter member of what would become the NFL in 1920. The team would be awarded NFL Championships in 1925 and 1947.

The AHAC would disband in December 1898. There were three teams in Montreal (Montreal Hockey Club, Shamrocks and Victoria) plus teams for Quebec and Ottawa. In 1898, the Victorias had the best record and won the Stanley Cup over the Ottawa Capitals.

Answer: Reginald Doherty

Reginald Doherty defeated his brother Hugh in five sets. Reginald won four straight Men's Singles Championships at Wimbledon (1897-1900). The three incorrect choices for this question were his final opponents in three of the years. (The fourth year the challenger was his brother.). He and his brother also won the Men's Doubles Championship at Wimbledon in 1898.
