Ray Krebs (Steve Kanaly) was originally the ranch foreman on Southfork who had a clandestine affair with Lucy Ewing (Charlene Tilton) who would later be revealed to be his niece. Ray grew up thinking his father was Amos Krebbs but it was revealed that Jock Ewing (Jim Davis) was actually his father, making Ray half-Ewing.
Despite this revelation, Ray mostly continued on with the same ranch work and rarely got involved with Ewing Oil.
2. April Stevens
Answer: Family
April Stevens Ewing (Sheree Wilson) first appeared as the wife of Ewing cousin, Jack Ewing (Dack Rambo). April was constantly involved in the battle for control over Ewing Oil and often flipped allegiances. After Pamela and Bobby (Victoria Principal and Patrick Duffy) divorce, Bobby marries April. However, their marriage is short-lived as she is murdered on their honeymoon.
3. Cally Harper
Answer: Family
Cally Harper (Cathy Podewell) was the second wife of J.R. Ewing (Larry Hagman). Cally married J.R. after she claimed to be pregnant with his child and her brothers forced J.R. to marry her. Cally had trouble fitting in at Southfork as she was unused to so much wealth and power. Her marriage to J.R. was short-lived and she eventually moved to Florida to start a new life.
4. Ellie Southworth
Answer: Family
Ellie Southworth (Barbara Bel Geddes and Donna Reed for one season) was the matriarch of the Ewing family for the majority of the original run of the series. Southfork is Miss Ellie's family ranch and she married Jock because the Great Depression nearly cost her family to lose the ranch. Miss Ellie and Jock have three children, J.R. Gary (Ted Shackelford) and Bobby.
After Jock died, Miss Ellie married Clayton Farlow (Howard Keel) and the couple eventually left Southfork toward the end of the show's original run.
5. Gary Ewing
Answer: Family
Gary Ewing was the middle son of Jock and Miss Ellie. Gary was the father of Lucy and only occasionally appeared on "Dallas". He was something of a black sheep of the family. However, he was the main character of the "Dallas" spinoff "Knots Landing". Gary was played by Ted Shackelford but the role was originated by David Ackroyd.
6. Punk Anderson
Answer: Friends
Punk Anderson and his wife Mavis (Morgan Woodward and Alice Hirson) were longtime friends of Jock and Miss Ellie. Punk was a fellow oilman who, along with Jock and others, founded the Cartel, a group of powerful oil companies. Punk retired from the business and acted as something of an advisor to J.R. and Bobby after Jock died.
7. Sly Lovegren
Answer: Friends
Sly Lovegren (Deborah Renard) was J.R.'s secretary. Although she was the fourth secretary for J.R., she was the longest-serving (appearing in seasons 5-14) and the most loyal. She often played key roles in J.R.'s schemes and also served as a confidant. However, in the final season, J.R. briefly fired her before rehiring her. Sly then quit her job at Ewing Oil to get married.
8. Harlen Danvers
Answer: Friends
Harlen Danvers (John Zaremba) was the Ewing family physician. He was one of the more level-headed characters on the series and often appeared as a guest at Ewing functions in addition to tending to the Ewing medical issues. Dr. Danvers made infrequent appearances from seasons 2-10 until the character was retired after the death of John Zaremba.
9. Harv Smithfield
Answer: Friends
Harv Smithfield (George O. Petrie) was the Ewing family lawyer who attended to the many, many legal needs of the Ewings. Smithfield was involved in everything from business deals to wills to murder charges and everything in between. Smithfield was ready to defend whichever Ewing was trouble no matter how guilty or innocent they were.
10. Phyllis Wapner
Answer: Friends
Phyllis Wapner (Deborah Tranelli) was Bobby's secretary. She was the second character to serve in that role and appeared in seasons 4-14. Unlike Sly, Phyllis rarely interfered with her boss's doings and largely stayed out of trouble at Ewing Oil.
11. Carter McKay
Answer: Foes
Carter McKay (George Kennedy) was a rancher who bought Ray Krebbs's ranch. He quickly became an enemy of the Ewings when he dammed up the river during a drought, which risked the Ewings losing their cattle and the ranch. McKay would later take control of Ewing Oil rival WestStar Oil and schemed to steal Ewing Oil away from J.R. in the final season.
12. Angelica Nero
Answer: Foes
Angelica Nero (Barbara Carrera) was a ruthless businesswoman who wanted to control a global shipping company called Marinos Shipping, whose owner resembled Jack Ewing. Angelica conspired to get J.R. and Jack involved in the shipping company and then kill them to control it for herself. This all happened in season 9, the dream season, so the events did not truly happen in the canon.
13. Cliff Barnes
Answer: Foes
Cliff Barnes (Ken Kercheval) was the main rival to the Ewings for most of the series. The Ewings and the Barneses were rival families going back to when Jock and Digger Barnes (David Wayne and Keenan Wynn) were budding oil businessmen. Throughout the series, Cliff constantly tried to destroy the Ewings, especially J.R., often succeeding momentarily before losing all progress due to his own personal shortcomings. Cliff's sister, Pam, married Bobby Ewing, who was more civil to Cliff than J.R. was.
However, this marriage did little to ease the rivalry between the two families.
14. Marilee Stone
Answer: Foes
Marilee Stone (Fern Fitzgerald) was the wife of Seth Stone, who owned Stonehurst Oil. Seth committed suicide after being swindled by J.R. and Marilee, who took over the company, sought revenge. She was a member of the cartel and had an affair with both J.R. and Cliff. She was a shrewd and successful businesswoman who was often a thorn in J.R.'s side.
15. Jeremy Wendell
Answer: Foes
Jeremy Wendell (William Smithers) owned WestStar Oil, which was a larger oil company than Ewing Oil. He was generally considered a more evil version of J.R. and had no qualms about doing whatever it took to achieve more power and more money. He often sought to destroy Ewing Oil and wanted to achieve that goal by any means necessary.
