Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who, of these, is the only one of the Rauhnacht guests to be provided with a satanic red cloak?

Answer: Elizabeth

As Constance's Rauhnacht party makes its way to the basement of the Apollyon and encounters the portal to Hell, they find themselves with nowhere to go but their final fate. Elizabeth Short, amongst them, is placed into a hood and taken aside by a group of cloaked acolytes led by Wilhemina Venable.

Winter and Kai Anderson and Tate and Addy Langdon stand by while the Black Dahlia joins a circle of other figures. Nearby, a band prepares to play. Freak show troupe leader, Elsa Mars, tells them to hit it as she takes the stage.
2. Ben awakens to find Mr. Nas in the dining room, and the old man feeds him which of these when he's under his spell?

Answer: Blood

Upstairs on the thirteenth floor, Ben awakens, having been drugged by Constance when he arrived at the building on what was allegedly supposed to be an unexpected night off. He stumbles around the ominously-lit apartment until he finds Mr. Nas standing in the window of the dining room, but before he can approach, the elderly man turns to face him, blood pouring from his mouth and into a goblet.

Without warning, Ben is lifted, telekinetically, into the air and drawn towards the figure, and as Ben reaches his patient, Mr. Nas pours the goblet of blood into his mouth. When Ben looks again, the decrepit, old man appears to transform into a much younger version of himself.
3. To commence the ritual, Elsa Mars sings which of these songs?

Answer: Is That All There Is?

Elsa Mars stands before the group beneath the Apollyon and tells a story of a house fire while her band of freak show performers begins playing. All of it leads to her rendition of "Is That All There Is?" by Peggy Lee, which she performs in her trademark powder blue suit. To the side of the stage, Ms. Venable watches on, waiting for her moment to commence the ritual they've all gathered to complete on this sacred evening.

As the song concludes, Elsa hears the crowd go wild. In reality, the room is in near abject silence.
4. Who, of these, is present for the Jezebel Ball?

Answer: Mr. Nas

After Elsa basks in her applause, she opens her eyes to find that only Adelaide is clapping for her. She tries to leave the stage, but ends up blocked from doing so; Venable hands her a clipboard instead. There's work to do.

While the others wait around the sacred Hellmouth, Elsa welcomes their gracious host, Mr. Nas, who sits at a judge's podium at the back of the stage. Here, at the break of the twelfth night, they offer the sacrifices so that he may reach his fullest potential. With a wave of his hand, the floor opens to a pit of blazing hellfire, and Tate Langdon, clad in latex, steps before it.
5. Which of these famous women of history was NOT a part of the Jezebel Ball?

Answer: Elizabeth Báthory

Elsa explains to the room that they are celebrating whores, miscreants, and profanities, thirteen ladies who were taken before they could reach their true potential. It is the Jezebel Ball, and the women in the red cloaks are Mr. Nas' personal favourite bad women. And with that, they kick off, bringing the women forth one at a time to be thrown into the pit.

Amongst them is Hypodermic Sally, a denizen of the Hotel Cortez; Hitler's mistress, Eva Braun; controversial socialite, Wallis Simpson; Ayn Rand, author of "Atlas Shrugged"; actress and musician, Brigitte Bardot; and Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia. All of them are cast into Hell almost unceremoniously.
6. With the group one person short, who offers themselves as the thirteenth offering at the Jezebel Ball?

Answer: Wilhemina Venable

The sacrifices continue with Mamie Eisenhower, Elena Ceausescu, Jezebel herself, and Tuberculosis Karen, a addict from Cape Cod. After Margaret Thatcher is dropped into the pit (and after a verbal assault from Elsa), Elizabeth Short meets her end, but not before Tate Langdon leads the room in a brief prayer, a request from his mother to look at this process with respect and dignity. The Black Dahlia, afraid and unsure of why she's amongst this group, cries before she's tossed aside.

The ceremony is one short, however, with Elizabeth being the twelfth offering. As the room worries about the consequence ad Elsa says goodbye to the crowd (and departs), Wilhemina Venable tosses herself in willingly, happy to serve.
7. Constance and Mr. Phibes suggest that Ben's sudden illness and delirium may have been brought on by an excess amount of which of these?

Answer: Nutmeg

When Ben awakens again, this time unaffected by the drugs of the previous night, he finds that it's daytime, and he's in a bed in Mr. Nas' apartment. To his shock, however, Constance and Mr. Phibes are both standing over him, having been watching him sleep.

Constance apologizes for serving him such a strong drink the night before; Mr. Phibes insists that, perhaps, it as an overdose on nutmeg leading to myristicin poisoning. It's a stretch no matter what way it's explained. All Constance can say for sure is that Ben's alleged delirium is over now. Fortunately, it's a new dawn for all of them.
8. Mr. Phibes hopes to follow through on his dreams to become which of these?

Answer: A filmmaker

Constance and Mr. Phibes play gin rummy in the kitchen and discuss their excitement. As Mr. Phibes acknowledges that there are thirteen cards of each suit in the deck, Constance has to admit she looks forward to a day when she never has to hear the number thirteen again. All of this-- the sacrifice of thirteen women-- was done to elevate Mr. Nas' biomarkers. Someone, at some point, realized that Mr. Nas' predilection towards the number was key to making this happen; it's long been associated with the Dark Lord. It's a number that disrupts the perfect number that was twelve.

Rauhnacht, Mr. Phibes notes, only comes once a year. It all comes together with the number. It helps that Mr. Phibes was an original member of the Church of Satan; he knows all about this. When it's all said and done, he's been promised a life in making film. It's certainly a step up from having been dead.
9. Constance made a deal with the devil by trading her soul for what in exchange?

Answer: The ability to become a mother again

While Mr. Phibes talks about his dreams, he asks Constance what brought her there, and she admits she also made a deal with the devil. Over strong drinks in the sitting room, she starts by saying that she's not like him; she's not as rough-edged as Mr. Phibes. She's been through pain of her own though. Mr. Nas came to her in a more youthful form and at a time she needed his aid. He was her fallen angel because when he summoned her to the Apollyon and had her sit with him, he explained what he could do for her as a deal. If she could assist him in ascending to the throne and creating a new world order, she could be a mother again. This time, she would do it right.

She made her literal deal with the devil that night, signing on the dotted line.
10. Do the ritual sacrifices appear to have a noteworthy effect on Mr. Nas' biomarkers?

Answer: Yes

The moment that Constance sealed the deal with the devil with a kiss, she opened her eyes to see Tate and Adelaide before her; the deal worked. It was both closure and a beginning, and it's a story that brings Phibes to tears, even though they know that the debt is steep.

Both Constance and Phibes, having gotten to know each other better, check in on their patient's biomarkers now that the thirteen souls have been sacrificed, and they find that they have, indeed, risen substantially. After drawing thirteen vials, Phibes notes that when the biomarkers reach a value of 100, he will rise. The ritual has brought him to 96.
