Road Blocks of "The Amazing Race Canada 12" Quiz

While teams started the race and completed a Detour task in Whistler, B.C., racers needed to take a cab ride sixty kilometres south to Squamish to partake in their Road Block challenge, doing so by strapping in and crossing a slackline to the other side of Squamish Canyon and back.

While Tina, Clara, Sébastien, Eamon, Dina, Nova, Ameen, Michele, Chayla, and Duane were selected to complete the hundred-foot crossing, Chayla used the Express Pass to get through the task, allowing them to check in second-to-last.

Answer: Dana and Cordelia

Leg 2 put teams through the strategy wringer. After the first Road Block task, which had teams learning how to sit-ski at Big White Ski Resort, Ameen and Surria used one Express Pass. Eamon and Bec used another one for a later Active Route Info task.

Then, Dana and Cordelia used theirs to skip the second Road Block, which involved constructing an irrigation system at a West Kelowna farmer's market. As a result, the mother and daughter were able to save a bit of time to start working into their incurred two-hour time penalty from an earlier task.

They would subsequently place eighth.

While teams rode the Rocky Mountaineer train from Kamloops, B.C. to Jasper, Alberta, many took quite a bit of time to realize that a clue box had been unexpectedly placed into their train car, but when they located it, they could embark on a Road Block that would only be active until they reached their destination. For this task, the selected member had to memorize the dishes served in the dining car and serve one of each to the patrons seated inside, reciting key ingredients upon delivery. If they could get all four, they'd get their next clue, but if they failed to complete the task by the time they had to disembark, they would be penalized for it.

Dana, Sébastien, Chyana, Bec, Felipe, Matteo, Nova, Surria, and Liz all attempted this task, with Felipe using the Express Pass at this stage. Although she and Cordelia were first to find this clue, Dana was the only racer unable to finish the task.

Answer: Disco

When teams hit the Intersection board waiting in front of the Museum of Fine Arts in Downtown Montreal, they didn't know that the team they partnered with would need to join them for a Road Block at a nearby dance club. For this task, two racers, one from each intersected team, needed to learn choreography for a disco routine, dress up in era-appropriate garb, and then hit the dance floor with a proper troupe to perform the dance in full. If both racers could get the moves down, they could split from the Intersection and keep racing.

Bec, Surria, Michele, Keshia, Chyana, Sacha, Liz, and Felipe were selected for this task.

Answer: Unionville

Racers weaved their way up through Scarborough and Markham, Ontario before encountering a Road Block in Unionville, a small neighbourhood in Eastern Markham, and at the gazebo on its Main Street, team members had to learn the lines to appear in an actively-filming Christmas romantic-comedy. If teams could get a full and correct take, the director would give them the clue that would send them to the race's sixth Pit Stop.

It was Tina, Surria, Sébastien, Eamon, Matteo, Clara, and Chayla who took this task on.

Answer: Nova Scotia

Interestingly, Leg 8 was a leg full of doubles. Once teams arrived in Digby, Nova Scotia, they were informed that there would be a double elimination at the end of the leg, but later on, they would also face two Road Blocks.

The first of these, taking place next to the Bay of Fundy, had Liz, Felipe, Michele, Sacha, Eamon, and Ameen shucking scallops, one of Digby's most noteworthy catches. If they could extract three pounds of scallops, they could drive them to a nearby seafood shop, package them, and trade them for another clue that would send them across the bay to New Brunswick.

Answer: DJ turntables

Tina, Sébastien, Surria, Bec, Matteo, and Clara had to take on the unexpected when a second Road Block appeared in Leg 8, this one requiring a bit more technical nuance than the scallop challenge, and certainly needing more of an ear. In this task, participating racers learned how to perform behind a DJ booth, using the decks to create a set from five songs, each of which required different techniques and effects to bring to life. If they could properly perform the set, the nightclub DJ overseeing would hand over another clue.

Answer: Gimli, Manitoba

Flying to Manitoba for the semifinal leg, racers encountered the Road Block at the Viking Park on the shores of Lake Winnipeg. Here, one member of each pair had to learn ten complicated Icelandic words, some of which may have been a bit more common for the large Icelandic community living in this part of the province. Once the words were memorized, racers could join in a local spelling bee, and if they could get one of the words, chosen at random, correct, they'd be able to move on with the leg.

Answer: GMC Stadium

Teams arriving at the Calgary Stampede Grandstands of GMC Stadium needed to pick one team member to 'put a ring on it', and for this task, that person strapped in for a zipline ride up into the stands. Along the line, they'd have to drop rings onto barrels positioned beneath them, and if they managed to score two rings in however many rides of the zipline, they'd get their next clue.

Eamon, Tina, and Michele tested their precision for this challenge.

Answer: A t-shirt

After catching a t-shirt from a t-shirt cannon at McMahon Stadium, teams opened it up to find the Road Block-- the last one of the race-- which took them to the Macron Performance Centre to join the Calgary Stampede Showband. Here, with the 115-piece band, the racers who did NOT complete the zipline task (Matteo, Eamon, and Liz) had to join the drumline, donning a set of drums and learning the footwork to perform, in sync, with their regular routine. If they could get the moves down, they could head onward to their final challenge of the race.
