Detours of "The Amazing Race Canada 12" Quiz

Answer: Maestro and Duane

'Sparkle' and 'Shine' were the two Detour options that faced teams in the race's first leg, and while most early teams jumped on the opportunity to wrap letters in a WHISTLER sign with twinkle lights, four teams had to take on 'Shine', which had them learning an aprés-ski dance to perform at an outdoor saloon in Whistler Village.

While Tina and Liz got this done in one attempt and coasted to a win in the leg, the back three teams struggled here with Maestro and Duane skipping the task entirely by using their Express Pass, blocking the other two teams from using theirs. Michele and Matteo would use their own Express Pass in the next task to save themselves from the bottom.

This Detour selection, which put the teams into positions to help the City of Jasper recover from the 2024 wildfires, featured limited stations, so while there were nine competing teams, only five could complete either side of the Detour (even though all of them wanted to complete 'Box It').

'Box It' was actually completed by Sacha and Sébastien, Filipe and Clara, Eamon and Bec, Tina and Liz, and Michele and Matteo, and it had racers constructing garden boxes for temporarily displaced locals. 'Plant It', inevitably tackled by Ameen and Surria, Chayla and Chyana, Keshia and Nova, and Dana and Cordelia instead had racers planting trees at a local golf course to rehabilitate the land (though Keshia and Nova used the Express Pass to move past this one).

Although one of the two tasks was Greek in nature, both Detour options were presented with French clues, so teams who didn't speak the language needed to get support from willing locals to overcome their tasks, and this time, teams could either complete a broken plate puzzle at a Greek tavern or solve a spot-the-differences game at a unique museum.

Each Detour option only had four stations and they were first-come-first serve, so while Keshia and Nova, Michele and Matteo, Felipe and Clara, and Sacha and Sébastien headed to 'Say Opa', Bec and Eamon, Ameen and Surria, Chayla and Chyana, and Tina and Liz visited 'Say Cheese'. Tina and Liz used their Express Pass to skip this challenge, keeping stations within their limits.

Answer: Keshia and Nova

To kick off their fifth leg of the race, teams needed to head westward out of Laval and Montreal and fly for a brief stop in Toronto. Reaching Union Station in Toronto's downtown core, they had to face the U-Turn Vote, selecting one of the competing teams to potentially receive the mandate to complete both Detour tasks in Peterborough, later in the leg.

Keshia and Nova received the most votes here (four from other teams) while both Eamon and Bec and Tina and Liz, considered frontrunners and strong competitors, received two each. This meant that all three teams had to take on both sides of the Detour.

As Keshia and Nova placed last in the previous leg but were spared from elimination, they were also given a Speed Bump in Leg 5, but it amounted to receiving an additional automatic vote at the board, tipping them to five votes.

Answer: Canoe

Racers found their Peterborough Detour task outside the Canadian Canoe Museum, and their choice of tasks, 'Inside' and 'Outside', had them making use of this typical Canadian means of transport. In 'Inside', racers dealt with the museum's vast collection of canoes, using descriptions to locate two boats that matched their provided instructions. In 'Outside', however, teams put their physical capabilities to the test by completing a canoe obstacle course in nearby Little Lake, paddling backwards in, around, and overtop of obstacles within a seven minute time period.

Keshia and Nova, Tina and Liz, and Eamon and Bec were all U-Turned and had to complete both sides of this Detour.

Answer: Four

Both 'Sync' and 'Sum', completed in Scarborough, Ontario in Leg 6, had teams racing to claim one of four Detour stations before the challenge sites would be blocked off (at least until a team departed), and as a result, the first three teams from the first bus into Toronto and one team from the second all rushed to the Pan Am Sports Centre to complete a more physical task.

In this one, both racers in each team needed to leap off a diving board, but they needed to aim for synchronicity, completing the dive and perfecting their techniques in harmony to the approval of a diving coach.

Answer: Cantonese

Racing to the Casa Deluz Banquet Hall in Scarborough, teams who didn't want to be in sync could instead test their comprehension skills and memories with the 'Sum' Detour in Leg 6, and this one had them immersing themselves into the notable Chinese diaspora of East Toronto.

Here, racers had to take ten dim sum orders from a table of hungry diners, but they needed to deliver the order, in full and in the proper sequence, in Cantonese to receive their next clue. Chayla and Chyana, Ameen and Surria, and Tina and Liz all headed to this task.

In Leg 8, teams finally made their way to the Atlantic coast, arriving in Digby, Nova Scotia and Saint John, New Brunswick in a long day of tasks to avoid a double elimination on the Bay of Fundy. Although teams encountered two Road Blocks in this leg-- one in each province-- there was no Detour presented amongst the complicated tasks and lengthy drives placed before the racers. Teams would depart from the Maritimes in Leg 9.

Answer: 'Whirl'

'Whirl' was the dancing task, and it forced teams to learn the choreography of the Red River Jig from local Métis dancers at The Forks Market. If they could get the steps down and perform with the dancers, they'd get their next clue. 'Wind', their alternative choice, needed a keen mind as the headed to Portage and Main to calculate windchill for historical Canadian weather events at one of the country's windiest intersections.

Tina and Liz, Eamon and Bec, and Sacha and Sébastien completed the dance while Michele and Matteo did the math.

Answer: Six

As ten teams criss-crossed around Canada in this twelfth season of the show, racers had to make choices for their Detours on six legs out of the ten they encountered. They did NOT have to complete Detours in Legs 2 (Kelowna, British Columbia), Leg 7 (Sarnia, Ontario), Leg 8 (Nova Scotia and New Brunswick), or the finale (Calgary, Alberta). Three of these legs instead featured Double Road Blocks while one of them, in Sarnia, didn't feature any Road Blocks at all!
