Postcards From "The Amazing Race Canada 12" Quiz

Answer: Whistler Mountain

For this twelfth race around Canada, ten new teams started their adventure atop the world-famous Whistler Mountain where Jon informed them all that they would each be receiving an Express Pass... provided they could locate it in a marked area on the mountain's peak, buried deep under the snow with their first clues. Racers would be able to use these Express Passes at any point in the first five legs, but only one could be used on any given task.

As teams progressed to Whistler Village and then down to Squamish, B.C. en route to their first Pit Stop, three teams, all at the back of the pack, used their Express Passes to stay in the game... only to face a predetermined non-elimination point

Answer: The moon cycles

Arriving in the Kootenays and the Okanagan Valley in Leg 2, racers headed through the mountains, farmlands, and forests of Kelowna, B.C., and part of this journey took them to the top of Knox Mountain Park, overlooking Kelowna and Lake Okanagan, about midway through the leg. Here, racers had to face down a tough memorization task in which Syilx elders would recite, in order, the thirteen cycles of the moon in their native tongue. With this, racers needed to place those words, in order, into a marked puzzle depicting a turtle shell. If they got all thirteen right, they could keep racing.

While Eamon and Bac used their Express Pass to skip this task and subsequently win the leg, Dana and Cordelia took a two-hour penalty to skip this task, fortunately avoiding elimination down the line.

Answer: The Rocky Mountaineer

During Leg 3, racers took themselves onto a train ride that would bring them from Kamloops, British Columbia to Jasper, in the heart of the Alberta Rockies, but what they didn't know was that partway through their trip on the Rocky Mountaineer, a clue box would appear in their train car and they would be unexpectedly (and unannouncedly) tasked with a Road Block that needed to be completed before they disembarked.

Only one team, Dana and Cordelia, was penalized for being unable to finish the task. At the mat, they were given a ninety minute time penalty, and it meant elimination for the mother-daughter pair.

Answer: Intersection

Though teams started Leg 4 in Laval, north of Montreal proper, they were tasked with taking a cab into Ville-Marie to locate the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Intersection. Here, teams needed to partner up at their discretion and embark on the next task as a larger group, and in this case, they had to tackle a Road Block. What this meant was that one member of each team was selected to complete the task, but they had to do so in tandem with their Intersected teammate.

The rest of this non-elimination leg had teams running through Downtown Montreal, over to Griffintown, and then back over to Laval to determine their placements.

Answer: The Kawarthas

Teams had to fly, train, and drive out to Peterborough, Ontario in Leg 5, and after a series of tasks in and around this Otonabee River city, racers drove to the cottage getaway destination of Bobcaygeon to complete a delivery task for the famous Kawartha Dairy Creamery.

The day, which included a voted-upon U-Turn, had teams handling canoes, cottage country games, snapping turtles, and butter tarts before they checked in at one of the locks on the Trent-Severn Waterway. After all that, Keshia and Nova were unable to pull out of last place and, as such, were sent home as teams hit the halfway point of the competition.

Answer: The Great Lakes

Teams had a couple of long days as they crossed back over Southern Ontario in Legs 6 and 7 since the former leg had them moving through Scarborough and Markham in Toronto's eastern end, and then they were told to keep on racing at the Pit Stop on the Lake Ontario waterfront.

It meant flying over two hundred miles southwest to Lambton County and the City of Sarnia, where teams encountered a second Face Off in two legs and got their hands dirty searching the beach, building oil rigs, and catching fish.

At the end of the two-leg stretch, sisters Chayla and Chyana were eliminated atop the Great Lakes Monument at Point Lands Park on Sarnia's riverside.

Answer: The wharf

To start out their day in the Maritimes, racers flew into Halifax but drove to the Bay of Fundy coast and the seaside town of Digby. Here, one member of each team needed to join the local industry by shucking scallops on the waterfront for their first Road Block in the leg. Once racers had collected three pounds of scallops, they had to head into town, clean them, and properly package them before collecting their next clue, reuniting with their partner, and taking the ferry over to New Brunswick.

Answer: No

Though racers had to drive around Saint John completing high-stress tasks (including a second Road Block for the leg), the final to-do for the six competing teams, all heading to a double elimination mat, was to drive themselves from New Brunswick's largest city to the town of St. Martins, fifty kilometres away.

There, in front of the sea caves with the Bay of Fundy tides out, racers could hit the mat and determine if they were headed to the semifinals. Ameen and Surria and Felipe and Clara were both eliminated at the end of this leg, leaving four.

Answer: Complicated words

The stop in Gimli, Manitoba at the start of Leg 9 was quite brief but while teams were there, they had to embrace the local Icelandic community by learning ten tough-to-spell words in that language. Racing down the main pier they could memorize these words for their Road Block, then return to the shore to join a spelling bee in which they had to properly spell one of them. Getting it right would get their next clue and send them back to Winnipeg for a leg that would hit The Forks, Portage & Main, and Red River College before determining the final three.

Answer: Alberta

Racers flew to Calgary, Alberta to close out this twelfth season of "The Amazing Race Canada", and heading through the stadiums and streets of the stampede city, racers had to take on two tough Road Blocks, deliver cowboy hats, shoot and catch from t-shirt cannons, and take on their final memory challenge, encompassing everything encountered on the race, before heading to the finish line.

In the end, Tina and Liz arrived first to take the $250,000 CAD prize while Eamon and Bec placed second and Michele and Matteo placed third.
