Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Worf's son

Answer: Alexander Rozhenko

Alexander was the son of Worf and K'Ehleyr. He was conceived after a tryst between his parents after they'd exercised in a holodeck battle ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Emissary"). K'Ehleyr didn't tell Worf that he was a father, until she had to return to the USS Enterprise-D to discuss a civil war brewing in the Klingon Empire. She knew about Worf's discommendation, but not the details. When she learns that it's a cover-up to protect Duras, a candidate for the chancellorship, she goes to confront Duras. She is assaulted, and in her dying act places Alexander's, Worf's, and her hands together, symbolizing that they are a family. Then she dies. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Reunion")

Worf, not being very paternal, sends Alexander back to Earth to live with his adopted parents, the Rozhenkos. But after a while, they don't have the stamina to raise a Klingon youth, and Alexander returns to the Enterprise to live with his father. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "New Ground")

Alexander was played by several actors: Jon Steuer ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Reunion"), Brian Bonsall (seven episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation"), James Sloyan ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Firstborn"), and Marc Worden (four episodes of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine").
2. First captain of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701)

Answer: Robert April

Robert April was first portrayed in "Star Trek: The Animated Series" episode "The Counter-Clock Incident", voiced by James Doohan. In productions of "Star Trek: Discovery" and "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds", he is portrayed by Adrian Holmes.
3. Librarian of the Sarpeidon Time Library

Answer: Atoz

Mr. Atoz was the librarian of the time library on the doomed planet Sarpeidon. Its sun was going to go nova, so the inhabitants used their time travel technology to prepare each of their citizens on one-way trips to the planet's past. When Kirk, Spock, and McCoy beam down to warn the Sarpeidons, they only find Mr. Atoz tending to the library. Assuming they're fellow Sarpeidons, Mr. Atoz doesn't explain exactly what the landing party should be looking for in the library. As Kirk is looking at the disk of medieval Sarpeidon, he hears a scream outside the library. He runs to help, passing through an archway and then being transported to medieval Sarpeidon, which was the history era he was observing. Spock and McCoy also go after Kirk, but since McCoy was watching a disk about the Sarpeidon Ice Age of 5,000 years in the past, both he and Spock are transported to a cliffside in a blizzard. ("Star Trek" episode "All Our Yesterdays")

Mr. Atoz was portrayed by veteran actor Ian Wolfe. Wolfe also appeared as Son Worshiper Speptimus in "Star Trek" episode "Bread and Circuses".

Trivia: The name "Mr. Atoz" refers to how libraries are usually arranged: from "A" to "Z".
4. Cyberneticist at the Daystrom Institute in the 24th century

Answer: Agnes Jurati

Doctor Agnes P. Jurati was a female Human cyberneticist who worked at the Daystrom Institute during the late 24th century. She worked with Dr. Bruce Maddox in trying to create a Soong-type android, similar to LTCR Data. ("Star Trek: Picard")

Agnes Jurati was portrayed by Alison Pill.
5. First captain of the USS Enterprise (NX-01)

Answer: Jonathan Archer

Captain Jonathan Archer was the son of noted warp scientist Henry Archer. The research done by the elder Archer eventually led to the development of the warp 5 engine, which was first installed in the USS Enterprise (NX-01). Jonathan Archer was selected to captain the NX-01 over his friendly rival A.G. Robinson. ("Star Trek: Enterprise")

Captain Archer was portrayed by Scott Bakula. Bakula is best known for his portrayal of Dr. Sam Beckett on "Quantum Leap". He also played Agent Dwayne Pride on "NCIS: New Orleans".
6. Skin of evil on Vagra II

Answer: Armus

Armus was the result of a race of titans expelling the evil within themselves. This evil essence coalesced into a consciousness that called itself Armus. The race that made Armus rejected this "skin of evil" and abandoned it on the barren planet Vagra II. It remained alone on this planet for untold years as a pool of dark, viscous liquid.

Being alone, and also following its urge to torture other beings, it caused Shuttlecraft 13 from the USS Enterprise-D to crash on Vagra II, holding its passengers -- Deanna Troi and LT Ben Prieto -- hostage. When a rescue party from the Enterprise came to rescue the shuttlecraft's passengers, Armus began playing cruel teasing games on the party. He was able to create an energy field that the Enterprise could not transport personnel through. When LT Tasha Yar tired of its games, she attempted to walk around Armus to get to Troi and Prieto. Armus quickly shot her with an energy discharge, killing her.

This killing did not satiate Armus. Aboard the Enterprise, Worf noted that the energy field preventing transport waned when Armus was upset. So Picard himself beamed down to talk to Armus. He was able to distract Armus enough that the Enterprise could beam Troi, Prieto, and Picard back up to the ship, leaving Armus alone once again.

Picard then ordered the shuttlecraft destroyed and an official quarantine established around Vagra II so that Armus could not get a hold of transport and travel freely around the galaxy. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Skin of Evil")

Years later, a group of beta shift lower deckers on the USS Cerritos found a submanifold casting stone when they were cleaning up the bridge crew's experiments. The stone allowed users to broadcast their voices anywhere in the galaxy. So they used it to broadcast to Vagra II to talk to Armus and tease him. ("Star Trek: Lower Decks" episode "The Spy Humongous")

The physical form of Armus was portrayed by Mart McChesney. He also portrayed the Sheliak director in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Ensigns of Command". Armus's voice was provided by Ronald Kenneth Gans.

The voice of Armus in "Star Trek: Lower Decks" was provided by Fred Tatasciore, who also voices LT Shax and other additional background characters.

Armus was named after "Star Trek: The Next Generation" writer and producer Burton Armus.
7. Chief engineer of the USS Cerritos

Answer: Andy Billups

Andarithio "Andy" Billups was the prince of Hysperia, a planet whose inhabitants lived as if they were in a Renaissance fair. Andy was destined to become King, but he shunned his royal life and left to become a Starfleet engineer. However, if he ever lost his virginity, he would be forced to return to Hysperia and become king. His mother on several occasions tried to trick him to become king, but he prevailed in remaining celibate. ("Star Trek: Lower Decks" episode "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie")

He is an accomplished engineer aboard the USS Cerritos, respected by all his staff.

Andarithio "Andy" Billups was voiced by Paul Scheer.
8. 22nd century geneticist who raise Augment humans

Answer: Arik Soong

Arik Soong, ancestor of Data's creator Noonian Soong, was a brilliant 22nd century geneticist. He believed that humanity's abandonment of genetic engineering after the Eugenics Wars was a mistake, and that as long as the science was used wisely it could be a boon to mankind.

Taking steps on his own, he stole embryos of augmented humans from Cold Station 12, allowed them to mature, and raised them on Trialas IV. He was captured in 2144 and imprisoned on Earth, leaving his "children" on their own.

In prison, he had once used a PADD to open all the security doors in his prison. He made it to Sausalito before being recaptured. He was subsequently denied any technology. He instead used pen and paper to write out brilliant ideas. Sadly, they were all trashed by his guards on a regular basis. ("Star Trek: Enterprise" episodes "Borderland", "Cold Station 12", and "The Augments")

Arik Soong was portrayed by Brent Spiner. In various "Star Trek" productions, Spiner has played all of the males in the Soong family line (Arik, Adam, Altan, Noonian), as well as the androids created by Noonian Soong (Data, Lore, B4). Prior to his work in "Star Trek" productions, he played Bob Wheeler, a hapless down-on-his-luck family man who appeared several times in front of Judge Harry Stone in "Night Court".
9. Kai of the Bajor religion (The Way of the Prophets)

Answer: Winn Adami

Winn Adami was a Vedek in the time after the Cardassians ended their occupation of Bajor. She was elected Kai after Opaka had to remain in the Gamma Quadrant and Bareil Antos had to withdraw his candidacy. She was opportunist and arrogant. She was deeply offended that an off-worlder - Benjamin Sisko - was bestowed upon to be the Emissary of the Prophets. ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine").

She is later tricked by the Pah-wraiths and Gul Dukat (disguised as a Bajoran named Anjohl Tennan) into betraying the prophets. ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" season 7).

Winn Adami was portrayed by Louise Fletcher. Fletcher is best known as Nurse Mildred Ratched in the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".
10. Klingon sleeper agent

Answer: Ash Tyler

Ash Tyler was a 23rd century Starfleet officer. He was captured by Klingons in the Federation-Klingon War, and his memories and DNA were spliced with a Klingon spy, Voq. Tyler's personality completely subsumed Voq's, making him a sleeper agent. Tyler/Voq was then placed in a prison cell with Harry Mudd and later Captain Gabriel Lorca, thinking he was the human Tyler. Lorca and Tyler/Voq escaped (leaving Mudd behind). Back on the USS Discovery, Lorca made Tyler/Voq his chief of security. ("Star Trek: Discovery")

Tyler/Voq was portrayed by Shazad Latif.
11. Prosecutor in the JAG office on Starbase 11

Answer: Areel Shaw

LT Areel Shaw was an attorney working in the JAG office on Starbase 11. She was a former romantic interest of Captain Kirk. This created a conflict when Kirk was charged with perjury and culpable negligence in the death of LCDR Finney, and it was her job to prosecute Starfleet's case. She, however, maintained her professional integrity and presented a strong case against Kirk. But she had also referred Kirk to Ben Finney, a bibliophile lawyer who, with Spock's help, revealed that Kirk was being framed by Finney himself, who was hiding in the USS Enterprise's engineering deck. ("Star Trek" episode "Court Martial")

Areel Shaw was portrayed by Joan Marshall. She was the only female Starfleet officer to wear a dress uniform in all of the original "Star Trek" series's episodes.
12. A Q who was born human

Answer: Amanda Rogers

Amanda Rogers was a female Q born in 2351 in Topeka, Kansas, on Earth's North American continent. Unlike other Q, she was conceived as a Human by two Q who had left the Continuum. The Q Continuum executed her parent with a freak tornado, a weather phenomenon that is a rare occurrence in the 24th century. She was then raised by a human couple, two Starfleet marine biologists. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "True Q").

Amanda Rogers was played by actress Olivia d'Abo, d'Abo is best remembered as Kevin and Wayne older sister Karen Arnold on "The Wonder Years".
13. Bajoran Vedek

Answer: Bareil Antos

Vedek Bareil Antos was a prominent Bajoran religious leader in the time after the Cardassians abandoned their occupation of Bajor. He was the leading candidate to become Kai (leader of The Way of the Prophets) after Opaka had to remain in the Gamma quadrant. But he withdrew his candidacy when he was implicated in the Kendra Valley Massacre. (He was actually taking the blame away from the true "culprit", former Kai Opaka, who allowed 43 Bajorans [including her son] to be killed rather than 1,200 others.). ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "The Collaborator")

Vedek Bareil Antos was portrayed by Philip Anglim. He also played Bareil Antos's mirror version in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "Resurrection".
14. Nurse serving on USS Enterprise-D

Answer: Alyssa Ogawa

Alyssa Ogawa was a nurse in the sick bay of the USS Enterprise-D. She was mainly a background character. But then in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Lower Decks", she and three other ensigns' lives on the Enterprise-D were the focus of the episode. (The title of this episode was the basis of the animated show title "Star Trek: Lower Decks".)

Ogawa was once portrayed as the chief medical officer in "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Parallels". Worf had been traveling among different quantum realities. In one of these, Ogawa was a doctor, not a nurse.

Nurse Ogawa was portrayed by Patti Yasutake. She appeared on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" sixteen times, and in "Star Trek" movies twice.
15. Evil computer

Answer: AGIMUS

AGIMUS was a megalomaniacal computer that had ruled a planet until the USS Cerritos intervened and removed AGIMUS from his connections to power. Beckett Mariner and Brad Boimler were tasked with delivering him to the Daystrom Institute for incarceration. Along the way, they crashed on a planet that had drawn in other hapless travelers. Their replicator would only make black licorice, and their non-replicated rations were eaten by indigenous animals. AGIMUS kept tempting them, saying he could fix their systems if they'd only connect him. Mariner refused, but Boimler overpowered and phasered her, and took AGIMUS into a crashed ship that held promise to have resources for their rescue. Boimler connected AGIMUS to a computer so that he could use his power to open some equipment on the ship. After connecting him, AGIMUS starts plotting to use the ship to re-establish his fleet of evil drones and to take over the galaxy. However, Boimler tricked AGIMUS; instead of being connected to the navigation controls, AGIMUS is only connected to the lights. Boimler used the power he took from AGIMUS to transmit an SOS for rescue. ("Star Trek: Lower Decks" episode "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie")

AGIMUS was voiced by Jeffrey Combs. Combs is a much-utilized actor in the "Star Trek" universe. Besides AGIMUS in "Star Trek: Lower Decks" he has played: Weyoun 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", Brunt in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", Tiron in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "Meridian", Kevin Mulkahey in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "Far Beyond the Stars", Penk in "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Tsunkatse", Shran in "Star Trek: Enterprise", and Krem in "Star Trek: Enterprise" episode "Acquisition".
