Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ferengi entrepreneur who has restaurant/bar franchises across the Alpha Quadrant

Answer: Quark

Quark started his business as a food, drink, and entertainment establishment on Terok Nor, a Cardassian orbital ore processing station in orbit of Bajor. At this time, he could only have the Cardassians as patrons; the Bajorans were relegated to ghetto-like conditions on Terok Nor. Quark did what he could to help the Bajorans, by employing some, selling black market supplies, or putting a little extra food into parcels.

Once the Cardassians ended their occupation, the Bajorans took over Terok Nor and asked the Federation to help administer it. It was renamed Deep Space 9. Commander Sisko asked Quark to stay and become the foundation of a commercial community on the promenade of Deep Space 9. ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine")

After several years, Quark franchised his establishment to almost two dozen locations across the Alpha Quadrant. He also franchised Quark's Express, a smaller version of his full establishments. ("Star Trek: Lower Decks")

Quark was portrayed/voiced by Armin Shimerman.
2. Female leader of cybernetic race composed of thousands of species

Answer: Borg Queen

The Borg were a cybernetic race, with members being from species assimilated over the years. By the end of the 24th century, they had assimilated over 10,000 biological species. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Star Trek: Voyager")

The Borg Queen was the entity within the Borg Collective that provided direction and purpose of the hive mind. She is quoted as saying, "I am the beginning, the end, the one who is many. I am the Borg."

The Borg Queen was portrayed by Alice Krige (movie "Star Trek: First Contact" and "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Endgame"), Susanna Thompson ("Star Trek: Voyager" episodes "Dark Frontier" and "Unimatrix Zero"), Annie Wersching ("Star Trek: Picard"), Garth Kemp (as The Face) ("Star Trek: Picard"), and Jane Edwina Seymour ("Star Trek: Picard" episode "Vōx" and "The Last Generation").
3. Omnipotent being who tormented Captain Picard

Answer: Q

Q was a member of the Q Continuum, a race of beings that were near-omnipotent. (Confusingly, they all referred to themselves with the name "Q".)

This Q decided to meddle with the human exploration of the Milky Way galaxy. He first put the crew of the USS Enterprise-D on trial, seeing how they would deal with the true nature of the Farpoint Station. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Encounter at Farpoint") Subsequently, he also gave Will Riker powers of a Q ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Hide and Q"), introduced the Enterprise-D to the Borg ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Q Who"), played Cupid to Picard and Vash ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Qpid"), took Vash exploring the Gamma Quadrant ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "Q-less"), intercepted the USS Voyager when they freed another Q from imprisonment ("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Death Wish"), involved Voyager with a Q Civil War ("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "The Q and the Grey"), and sent his son to Voyager to learn how to socialize with non-omnipotent species ("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Q2").

Q was masterfully portrayed by John de Lancie.
4. Dr. Crusher's mentor

Answer: Dalen Quaice

Dr. Dalen Quaice was a physician in the 24th century. He was a mentor to Dr. Beverly Crusher. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Remember Me")

Dr. Quaice was portrayed by Bill Erwin.
5. Former omnipotent being who chose to commit suicide

Answer: Quinn

Quinn was a Q-entity that desired to end his life, as he felt he'd experience everything the universe has to offer. (Quinn was a name he chose when he became mortal.) Because a Q committing suicide would have unknown effects on their continuum, the rest of the Q banished him to exist in the middle of a rogue comet in the Delta Quadrant. USS Voyager was investigating this comet, and decided to beam aboard a sample. In doing this, they actually beamed Quinn aboard, where he tried to immediately end his life. Instead, his powers removed all the male crew members on Voyager. This attracted another Q, specifically the one that had been antagonizing Picard for years.

After a chase throughout time and space, they finally stopped at Janeway's insistence. Quinn requested asylum. So Janeway held a hearing to determine if she would give him asylum. Ultimately deciding to do so, Q removed Quinn's powers.

Janeway tried to convince Quinn to not commit suicide, since he was now human and had a whole new life to explore. While she and Chakotay were discussing what role Quinn could play in her crew, they got a call from The Doctor that Quinn was dying. In sickbay, Quinn passes away after talking briefly with Janeway. The Doctor says that he died of Nogatch hemlock poisoning, which is strange in that it is neither grown on Voyager nor will the replicators create it. It's then that Q appears, saying that he procured the hemlock for Quinn. ("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Death Wish")

Quinn was portrayed by Gerrit Graham. Graham also played a Gamma Quadrant Hunter in the "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "Captive Pursuit".
6. Monster hunter from the Delta Quadrant

Answer: Qatai

Qatai was a pilot of a rather beat-up ship. He had been tracking and trying to kill a protoplasmic beast for almost four decades. The beast preys upon interstellar ships, using telepathic illusions to trick the crews into heading into its mouth.

Qatai meets up with USS Voyager, whose crew believes the beast's mouth is a wormhole that leads back to the Alpha Quadrant. Only Seven and Naomi Wildman are unaffected by the beast's telepathic illusions, since they don't have the same nostalgia for Earth that everyone else has. Teaming up with Qatai, they manage to get Voyager released from the beast's grasp. Qatai then continued his quest to kill the beast. ("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Bliss")

Qatai was portrayed by W. Morgan Sheppard. Sheppard's other "Star Trek" appearances are as Dr. Ira Graves ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Schizoid Man"), the Klingon commandant of the Rura Penthe penal colony (movie "Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country"), and the Vulcan Science Minister (movie "Star Trek").
7. Son of the inventor of molecular transporter

Answer: Quinn Erickson

Quinn Erickson was the son of Emory Erickson, the inventor of the molecular transporter. Emory had invented a more advanced transporter called a sub-quantum teleporter. Quinn volunteered to be the first to test the sub-quantum teleporter. Sadly, his pattern was lost in subspace.

Fifteen years later, Emory found a way to lock onto his son's signal and bring him back to regular space. However, Quinn's pattern had deteriorated, such that completing his teleport would kill him. But rather than have Quinn exist in a limbo state, Emory brought him back to normal space, holding him one last time before he died in his father's arms. ("Star Trek: Enterprise" episode "Daedalus")

Quinn Erickson was portrayed by Donovan Knowles.
8. Ferengi friend of Beckett Mariner

Answer: Quimp

Quimp was a Ferengi friend of Ensign Beckett Mariner. He helped her to give Boimler a confidence boost by pretending to mug them, then allowed Boimler to scare him off by phasering his hand that was holding a knife. ("Star Trek: Lower Decks" episode "Envoys")

Quimp meets up with Mariner years later on Ferenginar for a night of drinking and gambling. However, Mariner drinks to excess and begins fights. Quimp has to bribe quite a few Ferengi officials to keep her behavior unreported. He then confronts her about her behavior possibly harming the negotiations that her mother is involved in with Grand Nagus Rom on the Cerritos. ("Star Trek: Lower Decks" episode "Parth Ferengi's Heart Place")

Quimp was voiced by veteran voice actor Tom Kenny. Kenny is best known as the voice of Spongebob Squarepants. Kenny has provided the voice of a dozen incidental characters on "Star Trek: Lower Decks".
9. Admiral who was infected by a parasitic being

Answer: Gregory Quinn

Rear Admiral Gregory Quinn was a Starfleet Admiral who had what appeared to be paranoia about an infiltration of Starfleet. He and an inspector general officer Lt. Commander Remmick visited the USS Enterprise-D, interviewing the senior staff in an effort to determine if they had been infiltrated. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Coming of Age")

Later, a fellow captain, Walker Keel, called Picard with an emergency message to meet on an abandoned mining colony Dytallix B. There, Keel and two other captains meet with Picard and voice their own suspicions of an infiltration.

Back on the Enterprise-D, Picard orders Data to analyze Starfleet directives to see if there were suspicious actions in the last six months. He does find suspicious actions, and reports this to Picard. The Enterprise-D then finds the remnants of a starship, which ends up being the debris of a destroyed USS Horatio, Keel's ship.

Picard orders the Enterprise-D to return to Earth to report this data to Quinn. However, in the interim, Quinn and others have been taken over by parasitic beings, along with other high-ranking officers. Quinn beams aboard the Enterprise-D with the intent of infecting Dr. Crusher with one of the parasites. He fails, but only after beating Riker, Worf, and La Forge in a strangely one-sided fight. It isn't until Dr. Crusher arrives and stuns Quinn repeatedly that he is defeated. She then detects the parasite that has been controlling Quinn.

Picard beams down to Starfleet HQ and finds himself at a dinner party with several compromised officers. Riker beams down and informs them that he couldn't infect Dr. Crusher. The dinner is served, consisting of live worms. Picard is disgusted by the "food", as the compromised officers eat. Riker is about to take a bite of worms when he pulls out a phaser and begins shooting the other officers. Picard and Riker chase after Admiral Aaron as he escapes. They manage to stun him, but then one of the parasites leaves his body via his mouth and enters a map room.

In the map room, Remmick is in a chair, apparently contacting others of his race. Picard and Riker shoot him with phasers until Remmick's upper body explodes, revealing a mother creature that is in control of the parasites infecting the officers. They resume firing, disintegrating the mother creature. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Conspiracy")

Rear Admiral Quinn was portrayed by Ward Costello.
10. Curator of the Museum of Kyrian Heritage

Answer: Quarren

Quarren was the curator of the Museum of Kyrian Heritage on the Kyrian/Vaskan homeworld in the 31st century. He created a holographic portrayal of an incident in the 24th century which involved the USS Voyager. Because it was based on fragmented records, his narrative was deeply flawed. It portrayed the Voyager's crew as a merciless ally that used excessive violence in their planet's civil war of that era. In looking through hardware that had been lost off of Voyager, he found a backup data module that contained a copy of The Doctor, the EMH from Voyager. He activated it.

The Doctor saw Quarren's simulation and had major objections. He convinced Quarren to amend the story. But current tensions on their world interrupt them, and, in a riot, a Federation tricorder that would provide evidence of The Doctor's version of events was lost.

Quarren and The Doctor eventually did get the holographic simulation updated, which led to more peaceful relations between the planet's two humanoid races.

The story ends with museum goers, several centuries later, watching Quarren and The Doctor's struggles with reporting the true events. The docent explains that The Doctor stayed on their planet for many years before he left in a small craft in order to reach the Alpha Quadrant.

("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Living Witness")

Quarren was portrayed by Henry Woronicz. Woronicz's other "Star Trek" work includes the Klingon J'Dan ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Drumhead") and Forra Gegen ("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Distant Origin").
11. Chameloid Section 31 operative

Answer: Quasi

Quasi was a Chameloid who served as a Section 31 operative in the early 24th century. As a Chameloid, he utilized his shapeshifting abilities to impersonate various individuals for the team's missions. ("Star Trek: Section 31")

Quasi was portrayed by Sam Richardson in his primary form; other actors played him when he shape-shifted.
12. Ferengi who accidentally released Kamala, an empathic metamorph

Answer: Qol

The USS Enterprise-D is escorting a delegation from Krios Prime to Valt Minor, two planets that have just ended a centuries-long war. The Kriosians are also bringing a gift to Chancellor Alrik of Valt Minor. This gift is kept in status and suspended with beams in a cargo bay.

Two Ferengi are encountered in a shuttle that is about to explode. The Enterprise-D rescues them and assigns them guest quarters. However, the Ferengi actually sacrificed their shuttle in order to get aboard the Enterprise-D, knowing that there was a valuable gift being transported.

Qol sneaks into the cargo bay holding the gift. As he's taking readings (standing on a container), trying to see what it is without touching it, Worf enters the cargo bay and demands to know why Qol is there. This startles Qol, and he falls. As he does, he breaks one of the suspension beams, and the gift is slowly lowered to the deck. Just as Captain Picard and the Kriosian ambassador Briam enter the cargo bay, the gift opens, revealing that the gift is a woman: Kamala. She is an empathic metamorph, a woman with the genetic aptitude to meet the desires of any man she is with. She mistakenly thinks that since she was opened that it was time for her to be married to Alrik, and she mistakenly begins to bond with Captain Picard, since he was standing with Ambassador Briam. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Perfect Mate")

Qol was played by Michael Snyder. Snyder has played four roles in "Star Trek" productions: Qol, another Ferengi named Morta ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Rascals"), a human communications officer (movie "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home"), and a Megazoid crewman Dax (movie "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country").
13. Groundskeeper on Federation colony Caldos

Answer: Ned Quint

Ned Quint was a groundskeeper on the colony planet Caldos. This is where Dr. Crusher lived with her grandmother, Felisa Howard, before she left to attend Starfleet Academy. He attended to Ms. Howard's grounds when she became too infirm to do so herself. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Sub Rosa")

Ned Quint was portrayed by Shay Duffin.
14. Commander of Starbase 74

Answer: Quinteros

Commander Quinteros was the commander of Starbase 74 when a team of four Bynars stole the USS Enterprise-D. They did this so that they could download their planetary computer before an EMP from a supernova would wipe out their computer. (The Bynars are cybernetically enhanced and tied together with their planetary computer.)

Quinteros is portrayed by Gene Dynarski. His other "Star Trek" roles are dilithium miner Ben Childress in "Mudd's Women" and Krodak in "The Mark of Gideon", both in the original "Star Trek".
15. Kobali father of former human Lyndsay Ballard

Answer: Q'ret

Q'ret was a Kobali who had two daughters. These daughters were not born, but were created with the resurrected remains of aliens that were found by the Kobali. This was their means of procreation.

One of his daughters, Jhet'leya, began to remember that she was once a human named Lyndsay Ballard, an ensign from USS Voyager and an old friend of Harry Kim from Starfleet Academy. She had died on away mission in a trap set by Hirogen hunters. She was given a typical burial in space.

When Jhet'leya remembered being Lyndsay, she stole a ship and caught up to Voyager. Examined by The Doctor, he confirmed that she was Ballard, though with extensive genetic modifications. Wishing to rejoin Voyager, The Doctor gave her treatments to return her human appearance.

The Kobali, with Q'Ret, caught up and asked her to return. When she refused, they began to attack Voyager. Additionally, Ballard found that though she looked human, her senses were Kobali. Things didn't taste the same as they had before, and her human appearance would need to be attended to so often that she would have to continuously be in Sick Bay. She then relented, realizing that Lyndsay Ballard had died, and she was Jhet'leya now. She returned to the Kobali and her father Q'ret. ("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Ashes to Ashes")
