Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Racers worked for a dried food factory at the start of Leg 5 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. What food did they work with?

Answer: Raisins

Though racers ended Leg 4 at the Ulugh Beg Observatory, they were taken to the Zarafshan Basin Irrigation Systems Authority Building to start a leg through the Chekhov District of Samarkand. Here, racers opened clues sending them by taxi to a dried food factory in the industrial district, working on the production line at Eco Dry Food.

Here, racers had to fill buckets with raisins and sit at inspection tables to pluck raisins off their stems. If they could accumulate a kilogram of de-stemmed raisins for the weigh-in, they could get their next clue.
2. Racers completing the 'Fix Up' Detour task in an Uzbek apartment block had to clean which of these for the people living there?

Answer: Carpets

Racers headed out from their raisin-sorting task with Detour options to choose from, and for either option they needed to make their way to the 1960s Soviet-era apartment block at Buyuk Ipak Yo'li Street. There, any teams choosing to 'Fix Up' needed to select a provided rug, haul it to the central square of the apartment complex, and beat it, scrub it, and trim the frayed edges.

A local would judge their work and hand over a clue if they got it all right.
3. Which team completed the 'Fill Up' Detour task in Leg 5, eating bowls of sumalak?

Answer: Aesha and Scott

Racers who chose 'Fill Up' needed to head into one of the apartments in the Buyuk Ipak Yo'li Street complex to enjoy a local delicacy, sumalak. This dish of germinated wheat and flower would fill thirty bowls, and teams would have to eat enough to find the seven bowls containing the Cyrillic letters to spell the name of the meal. Spelling out the word would allow them to collect their next clue.

Rob and Georgie, Brendan and Leni, Melissa and Leah, and Aesha and Scott took on this task while all the others cleaned carpets.
4. The Road Block in Leg 5 allowed racers to collect which of these, waiting for them for the rest of the leg?

Answer: A vehicle

Teams left the Detour with one more prompt keeping them at the Samarkand apartment block, and this clue was a Road Block requiring that one member of each pair be 'locked and loaded'. In this task, the selected racers needed to secure their transportation for the rest of the leg-- a classic Lada Niva in one of the many garage units next to the building.

The catch was that they would have to unlock their garages, using a massive keyring to find the one that would open the lock to their vehicles and their next clue. Rob, Epiphany, Scott, Melissa, Dom, Steve, Scott, Stella, and Brendan went for this task.
5. No one was eliminated at the end of Leg 5.

Answer: True

Leaving the Uzbek apartments of Chekhov District behind, racers had to drive their newly-acquired Ladas southeast through the city (using an old Soviet map) to the abandoned Aquapark Sogdiana to locate Beau and their fifth Pit Stop. Gretel and Epiphany led the leg, arriving on the mat in front of the empty, out-of-season pool in first place.

At the far end of the pack, Brendan and Leni fell behind struggling through the Detour and dropped into ninth place. Fortunately for them, they'd arrived on a predetermined non-elimination leg and were allowed to keep racing.
6. Before heading to the village of Tersak at the beginning of Leg 6, what did Brendan and Leni need to locate?

Answer: Their car keys

Teams started the race's sixth leg departing from the Chekhov District of Samarkand, heading out from Avto Ehtiyot Qismlar bound for the small Uzbek village of Tersak in the picturesque and rolling hills of the Zarafshan Range. This rural leg would prove to be an arduous one for teams, but first, they needed to get there, driving themselves due south.

Before Brendan and Leni could do this, however, they had to overcome a Speed Bump task. Once they located their car, they would need to do a thorough sweep of the interior to locate their keys hidden inside. All other teams would start the leg without needing to perform this search.
7. In Leg 6, racers encountered a limited station Detour. Which task filled up before the other had even been attempted?

Answer: 'Balls'

Arriving in Tersak, racers found a Detour task that would send them on one of two rural errands pertaining to a local meal next to an idyllic mountain stream. Their choices, this time, were 'Balls' and 'Guts', and each Detour would only allow five teams.

In 'Balls', racers had to make cheese balls, known as sun-dried qurut, by combining salt, yoghurt, and herbs, to the approval of a local. If teams could make fifty of these, despite the cold weather, they'd move on. In 'Guts', teams instead had to clean sheep innards in the stream, preparing the body parts for dinner. Naturally, the 'Balls' task filled up with the first wave of teams.
8. In Tersak, teams had to plant which of these vegetables in a farmer's field?

Answer: Potatoes

Racers who completed their Detours were able to keep moving through Tersak on foot to locate Khaqberdy's Potato Farm. Here, teams would need to help the local farmers plant potatoes for the next harvest, and to do that, they needed to get their hands dirtier. Once racers spread fresh cow manure along one of the field rows, they needed to properly place potato seedlings along the entire row, sprouts up. If they could get this right, they could help the farmer further by delivering one of his donkeys to another stable up the road to keep on racing.
9. The Road Block teams encountered at the end of Leg 6 had them playing which of these, Uzbekistan's national instrument?

Answer: Karnay

After delivering their donkeys, racers needed to select team members who would take on a Road Block. Heading out from the donkey stable the chosen racers needed to grab a local horned instrument known as a karnay and head up the mountain to try their hand at playing Uzbekistan's national instrument. If they could toot their own horn by dressing in traditional garb, learning a song, and performing it with band accompaniment, they could get their last clue for the leg.

Bernie, Georgie, Luke, Melissa, Marx, Scott, Leni, Gretel, and Stella attempted this task.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in Tersak, Uzbekistan in Leg 6?

Answer: Dom and Marx

Leaving the Road Block, all racers had left to do was trek back down the mountain road to locate Beau at the sixth Pit Stop next to Muhyiddin's Family Farm. Here, Steve and Bernie managed to secure their second win of the race moments before Luke and Scott, and on Bernie's fifty-first birthday no less, pulling themselves from the near-back of the pack in the previous leg.

Taking a penalty for leaving the Detour without completing the task, Dom and Marx arrived fourth and had to wait thirty minutes before checking in. This allowed all remaining teams to make it to the mat and survive the leg-- in Lindy and Stella's case, by seconds-- while the strong, front-running duo ended up eliminated from the race.
