Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The race's first Detour, in Pokhara, Nepal, saw a penalty given to which team?

Answer: Ed and Tiff

Heading up into the Himalayas, racers found their first Detour task at a terraced farm in the village of Dhampus, just outside of Pokhara, Nepal. Here, racers needed to complete either 'Maize Rack' or 'Haystack', both of which involved accumulating supplies for the harsh Nepali winter.

In the former, racers had to tie together maize in the same way as the locals while in the latter, they had to stack hay in massive bales. Ed and Tiff, already at the back of the pack, decided to take a twenty-minute penalty instead of finishing the Detour.

While they hit the Pit Stop in eleventh place, the penalty subsequently dropped them to last, leading to their elimination.
2. In the choice between 'Fur' and 'Feast' in Leg 2 (in Kathmandu, Nepal), how many teams chose to feast on buffalo parts?

Answer: Six

Waking up to a morning of tasks in the Nepali capital midway through their second leg of the race, the eleven participating teams had to choose between a crafting task or a task requiring a strong stomach, and it might have been the idea of breakfast that compelled teams into a tough meal.

In 'Fur', teams had to create flower garlands for dogs, stringing together specific flowers in proper sequences to outfit two animals. Most teams, however, chose 'Feast', stopping at Shree Gha Temple to dine on buffalo spines and buffalo stomachs containing bone marrow. If each team member could eat their bowl, they would keep racing.
3. Racers chose between 'Fix Up' and 'Fill Up' for their Detour in Leg 5. Which one allowed teams to complete their task indoors?

Answer: 'Fill Up'

Racing through the Chekhov District of Samarkand, Uzbekistan on a rainy day for Leg 5, teams had a particularly bleak backdrop on which to perform manual labour or gorge on sweets. In 'Fix Up', teams were outside because they needed to clean, scrub, and trim a dirty apartment rug, doing so with provided tools while locals cheered them on.

A handful of teams completed 'Fill Up' instead, unknowingly locking themselves into a task that required they eat up to thirty bowls of sweet sumalak to find seven dishes containing Cyrillic letters.

While they were able to do this from the comfort of an Uzbek apartment, they risked needing to eat the whole set to earn their clue.
4. Heading into rural Uzbekistan in Leg 6, teams had to help the locals make a meal. Did they need to eat the food they made for either task?

Answer: No

Racers drove themselves to the village of Tersak, just south of Samarkand, and headed into the mountain forests to help make a feast, and while some teams-- the earliest ones-- elected to complete a task that had them rolling salty cheese balls, the teams at the back of the pack were forced to contend with sheep innards.

In the 'Guts' task, racers had to head to a frigid mountain stream and clean out sheep guts, preparing them for cooking. Neither Detour option required teams eat the food-- a rarity considering the tendency on "The Amazing Race Australia".
5. Both the 'Wet' and 'Dry' Detours that teams encountered in a Sri Lankan market in Leg 7 involved handling which of these local food items?

Answer: Fish

Arriving in the seaside village of Negombo, Sri Lanka in Leg 7, racers took time on the water before handling the catch of the day on land. The Detour here took place in the Fish Market where racers could either prepare fish by gutting them or drying them.

In 'Wet', teams gutted four baskets of fish to prepare for sale while in 'Dry', racers had to lay four larger buckets of brined fish out on drying mats in the hot sun. Teams divided nearly evenly between the two tasks.
6. On one end of the Detour in Leg 8, racers chose 'Cuppa'. The second task was which of these?

Answer: 'Cracker'

Racers headed to the waterfront to deal with high-class and low-brow food and drink in the Sri Lankan capital in their eighth leg and chose either 'Cuppa' or 'Cracker' for their Detour. 'Cuppa' was high-class, sending teams to Sri Lanka's oldest and most prestigious hotel to serve Ceylon tea to the guests there. If they could properly serve six people their orders without the use of labels for their tea options, they could get their clue. 'Cracker' took racers to the beach to make Sri Lankan street food, and if they could make eight 'egg hoppers' at a local food cart, they could keep racing.
7. One team took a penalty for opting out of the 'Fire Dance' Detour task in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka in Leg 9. Were they eliminated for this decision?

Answer: No

The team in question was Steve and Bernie who, upon arriving at the 'Fire Dance' Detour task outside of Sigiriya, faced an intricate and physically-demanding challenge that they realized they weren't going to be able to overcome with Steve's existing knee injury.

Instead of finishing a Gini Sisila fire dance, the brothers waited out a thirty minute penalty at the Detour and then proceeded to the Pit Stop. Only Aesha and Scott completed the dance (placing first for the leg) while all other teams completed 'Fire Mask', a challenge that had racers painting traditional masks and their partners' faces.
8. How many Detour clues did teams open during their visit to Taiwain?

Answer: Three

In Legs 10, 11, and 12, racers made their way around Taipei and then further out into the more rural Wulai District of Taiwan, and each of these legs featured both a Road Block and a Detour, giving teams a large variety of to-dos during their stay there.

In the first leg here, teams had to perform a song or a dance in the streets of Taipei while in the second, they had to make or eat food at the Raohe Street Night Market. In the third of these legs, racers completed tasks along the Nanshi River, joining local fishermen or bamboo stepping dancers for one last challenge in the country.
9. Racers who completed the 'Gears' Detour task in Yogyakarta (in Leg 13) had to pick up how many coffees along their cycle rickshaw route?

Answer: Three

A Detour was encountered at the start of teams' first day in Indonesia, and with that, racers had to eat a spicy breakfast or engage in some exercise. While some teams completed the 'Grind' Detour by making and eating spicy sambal paste, those who elected to take on 'Gears' instead pedalled a becak, a cycle rickshaw, to bring a local market shopper back to their home. With one racer using a map and the other pedalling, teams not only needed to swap spots during the ride, but visit a local coffee shop and pick up a coffee for each racer and a third for their passenger. Delivering all of these people and items to the destination would net a clue.

Aesha and Scott and Rob and Georgie completed 'Gears' with one team, naturally, not getting enough coffees on the first go-around.
10. Which team was the odd one out completing the 'Good Fortune' and 'Good Focus' Detour tasks in Indonesia in Leg 14?

Answer: Aesha and Scott

Making their way through rural Indonesia in the penultimate leg of the race, teams made their way to the small village of Sambeng for one of two precision-based tasks. In 'Good Fortune', racers made an offering to the Provo River gods by making a fruit-and-vegetable offering to exacting specifications while in 'Good Focus', racers had to practice Javanese seated archery.

In either case, the tasks provided only had three stations, so there was potential for one team to be stuck, one way or another. Aesha and Scott were stuck with 'Good Fortune' as they arrived at the tasks last, a consequence of their cell phone navigation overheating in the Indonesian sun.
