Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Speed Bump at the start of Leg 11 required that Gretel and Epiphany translate their first clue from what language?

Answer: Taiwanese Mandarin

Racers landed on the mat at the tenth Pit Stop only to find that Beau was ready to hand them another clue, sending them out immediately from a Virtual Pit Stop instead of a rest period. It meant that the five racing teams needed to continue onward to Taipei's Songshan Ciyou Temple as night fell to open their Detour clues.

Gretel and Epiphany, who placed last at the mat in Leg 10, were also saddled with a Speed Bump when they opened this clue, and it required that they translate the contents from Taiwanese Mandarin in order to proceed with their selection.
2. Racers' Detour choices in Leg 11 were 'Beards' and 'Birds'. Only one involved eating food in a Taipei night market, but which one?

Answer: 'Birds'

Leg 11, for most teams, started outright with the Detour, a choice between 'Beards' and 'Birds', both of which sent them to the Raohe Street Night Market, and in either case, racers had to handle food. In 'Beards', teams made the food, joining a local street vendor in making dragon's beard candy-- sugar syrup pulled into a ring, folded over and over and stretched to the point of becoming strands. If they could finish, cut, and fill these to make eighteen candies, they could get their next clue. In 'Birds', racers dined on street food instead, sitting down with Taiwanese specialties to finish up as dinner. Racers had to finish a bowl (each) of duck blood stinky tofu as well as a plate of side dishes to continue on.

Steve and Bernie and Luke and Scott ate the food while the other three teams made the candy.
3. In Taipei, racers had to play which arcade game to collect a clue (in Leg 11)?

Answer: Gachapon

Leaving their night market Detour, racers had to navigate their way, by taxi, through the busy city streets of Taipei to find the intersection for Wuchang Street and Kunming Street, and there, they could locate the direction they needed to take. What teams didn't know was that an electronic billboard of Beau would be there, pointing them in the direction of their next task. If they could locate the arcade there, they could play a gachapon game (or a claw machine game) to collect their next clue and keep on racing.

The catch was that not every ball contained a correct clue, so they needed to play until they got lucky.
4. To complete their Road Block in Taipei in Leg 11, racers had to identify the name of which of these in the city streets?

Answer: A Techno God

When racers opened the correct arcade ball they'd know they'd made it because they'd find a miniature Road Block clue inside. For this one, racers had to choose someone who 'wouldn't tech-NO for an answer', and that teammate would have to proceed through the nearby streets to meet the Techno Gods of Ximending Walking District. Here, the chief Techno God would ask racers for his name, and they would have to search the nearby city blocks for the one similar figure who could provide it. If they could relay the right name, Prince Nezha, finding it from amongst twenty in the streets, they'd get their last clue for the leg.

Georgie, Aesha, Bernie, Gretel, and Luke completed this task.
5. Which team was first to land on the non-elimination mat at the rainbow crossing at the end of Leg 11?

Answer: Rob and Georgie

Racers who got their Techno Gods sorted got one last clue and were allowed to race on foot to their eleventh Pit Stop at Taipei's famous Rainbow Crossing, also known as Rainbow Six, only streets away from Ximending Walking District. Rob and Georgie managed to reach Beau and the mat first, taking their second victory in a row and their third win of the race, holding onto a lead for the majority of the leg.

Although Gretel and Epiphany had to overcome a Speed Bump, they overtook Steve and Bernie this leg, who landed on the mat in fifth. They were, however, spared by a pre-determined non-elimination Pit Stop, leaving five still in the race.
6. For their Speed Bump task in Leg 12, Steve and Bernie had to do which of the following?

Answer: Eat a meal

Ripping open their clues in Taipei, racers were told to leave the big city and drive themselves to the outskirts of the capital, deep into the lush and rolling hills of the island of Taiwan. Here, racers would be able to dig into the beauty of the Wulai Region, locating their next clue box on the edge of the Jiajiuliao River.

Steve and Bernie encountered a Speed Bump here as they needed to be penalized for placing last in the previous non-elimination leg. For this added task, the brothers had to finish a serving, each, of jutongfan, a sticky rice meal cooked in a twenty-centimeter bamboo tube.
7. Teams searched a Taiwanese village for a specific mural for their Road Block in Leg 12, needing to find one depicting which of these images?

Answer: A married couple

Arriving on the banks of the Jiajiuliao River, racers were told to suit up and go river tracing, proceeding up the river through its waters to the waterfall upstream to get their next clue. What teams found there was their Road Block clue envelope, and it required that one racer be 'street smart', navigating the nearby Fushan Village. Once they located the house with the mural of a married couple on the side, they would need to tell the house number to a local judge who would hand over their next clue. The catch was that the numbers on the houses were in the traditional Tayal language, so racers would have to translate the numbers to finish out the task.

Scott, Rob, Scott, Epiphany, and Bernie completed this task.
8. Visiting a village schoolyard in the Wulai District, racers had to play with an oversized version of which of these toys to claim their clue?

Answer: Spinning top

Teams who finished the Road Block were able to make their way, on foot, to the Fushan Elementary School for their next task, and this one had them playing a particularly unique schoolyard game. In the yard, they needed to wind a length of rope around a large spinning top and pull the rope to make it spin. If they could have their top spin for fifteen sustained seconds, they would get their next clue-- a Detour-- and keep racing.
9. In Leg 12, the Detour choice was between 'Tribal Trap' and 'Tribal Tap', and both had limited stations. Which one filled up first?

Answer: 'Tribal Trap'

Teams who spun their tops long enough opened their Detour clues to close out the twelfth leg, and their choice this time was between 'Tribal Trap' and 'Tribal Tap'.

In the former task, racers headed down to the banks of the Nanshi River to pull a broken bamboo fish trap out of the water. Once they'd repaired the hatch at the trap's base, they could trade the finished trap for their next clue. Rob and Georgie, Steve and Bernie, and Luke and Scott completed this challenge.

In the latter, teams instead made their way to the Delanan Cultural Camp to learn how to complete a traditional bamboo stepping dance. Once it was performed without error, they could keep racing. This one was done by Gretel and Epiphany and Aesha and Scott.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in Taiwan at the end of Leg 12?

Answer: Gretel and Epiphany

Leaving the Detour, teams needed to make their way on foot to the banks of the Nanshi River to a platform beneath a picturesque, marked bridge. Although they started the leg in last and had to take on the Speed Bump, a good showing in the leg's back half allowed the Curry brothers to take first place, narrowly beating Aesha and Scott. Steve and Bernie ended up claiming a night's stay in an upgraded hotel suite courtesy of Hydralyte for their win.

The last team to make it to the mat this time was Gretel and Epiphany who, after struggling with the bamboo dance Detour, were eliminated in fifth place, leaving only four teams racing into the final country of the race.
