Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many teams commenced this season of "The Amazing Race Australia"?

Answer: 13

Thirteen teams commenced this race from the roof of the world, getting their go-ahead from Beau at the Starting line in front of Shanti Stupa amongst the Himalayas in the high-altitude city of Pokhara, Nepal. At the World Peace Pagoda, each pair gathered for their first glances at the other teams and a bit of competitive banter, but before long, they embarked on their first leg through the mountains. To begin, they ripped open the clues on their backpacks and were told to proceed to nearby Phewa Lake.
2. Racers had to deliver offerings to a shrine in Pokhara as part of their first task (in Leg 1), but where was that shrine located?

Answer: On a boat

Arriving down the side of the mountain at Phewa Lake, racers had to make their way to waiting boats and row them out into the water to a boat positioned in front of an island shrine to the Hindu goddess of Barahi. There, they would need to make a contribution in the form of a traditional offering, and they would be able to trade that for their next clue and row themselves back to the starting dock.
3. Visiting a local school in Pokhara (in Leg 1), racers were taught a Nepali chant by who of these?

Answer: Children

Back on shore, teams opened their clue and had to locate marked vehicles and drivers to take them through Pokhara to the Pal Ewam Namgyal Monastic School to learn a little chant. The catch is that upon their arrival, racers would find that they would be taught by the young schoolchildren and they would be learning the chant, in full, in Nepali. If they could join the class and perform the chant getting every word correct, they would receive their next clue and their first Detour choices.
4. The first Detour task, encountered by teams at a terraced farm in the Himalayas, involved either hay or what local crop?

Answer: Maize

For teams' first Detour they had to take a drive outside of the city and into the rural farmlands of Dhampus, visiting one of the mountain's terrace farms, and there, they chose either 'Maize Rack' or 'Haystack'. In 'Maize Rack', teams had to tie cobs of maize into bundles in a traditional way, suspending thirty bundles on an overhead rack, to get their next clue. In 'Haystack', teams opting for a physical challenge could instead stack loose hay around a tall bamboo pole, filling a red circle on the ground and climbing to a designated height.

Melissa and Leah, Lindy and Stella, Gretel and Epiphany, Aesha and Scott, Steph and Ben, and Luke and Scott completed 'Maize Rack' while Bronte and Benfield, Ant and Dan, Rob and Georgie, Dom and Marx, Brendan and Leni, Ed and Tiff, Steph and Bernie chose 'Haystack'.
5. Which team was the first to be eliminated from the race, arriving last at the Pit Stop in Pokhara?

Answer: Ed and Tiff

Leaving the Detour, racers had to return to Pokhara to locate their first Pit Stop at the Pema Ts'al Sakya Monastery, and there, they would find their standings and vie to avoid elimination. Ant and Dan, who pushed forward after the chant task and excelled in the physical Detour, took the win in this very first leg, narrowly beating Dom and Marx.

At the back of the pack, Lindy and Stella ended up reaching the mat last, but because Ed and Tiff took a twenty minute penalty instead of completing the 'Haystack' Detour task, the mother and daughter were spared of elimination and the penalized team was sent home on the first day of the race.
6. Between the first and second leg of the race, which team was disqualified from continuing in the competition?

Answer: Ant and Dan

Although teams were brought to the viewpoint at the top of the village of Sarangkot to start Leg 2, not all pairs rejoined the race. Only briefly discussed in the show's voiceover, Ant and Dan were removed from the game during their first (and only) Pit Stop in Pokhara due to a breach of the code of conduct of the race. Because of this, Dom and Marx would be the first to rip open their clues on the race's second day to discover their first Road Block challenge.
7. The first Road Block of the race had teams enjoying a wild ride on which of these?

Answer: Zipline

The first clue of Leg 2 had teams heading out for an early adventure, and with the prompt of 'who knows their lines?', the pairs had to choose one racer to take a long ride on the world's steepest zipline. Heading to ZipFlyer Nepal, the chosen teammates took a nearly two kilometre long zipline down a six hundred metre drop, zooming along at nearly one hundred forty kilometres an hour. Dom, Benfield, Rob, Leni, Bernie, Scott, Epiphany, Melissa, Scott, Ben, and Stella completed this task, reuniting with their teammates at the bottom of the ride to open their next clue.
8. Racers who were forced into completing the second Road Block of the race (in Leg 2) had to balance which of these?

Answer: Bells

Interestingly, teams came out of one Road Block and right into another, prompted with 'who hasn't done a Road Block?' For this, the racers who did not complete the zipline had to proceed to Tree House Agro Resort, back in the city of Pokhara. There, participants needed to find their zen, meditating with a pair of tingsha bells. If they could balance the bells and seesaw their arms thirteen times without making any noises, they could get their next clue, head to the airport, and catch the first possible flight to Kathmandu.

Upon arriving, racers could check in for a night's stay at the WanderThirst Hostel, where four teams would have private suites and the remaining teams would be bunking up in shared dormitories. They kept racing, based on their order of arrival, the following morning.
9. Teams who completed the 'Feast' Detour task in Leg 2 had which of these as a Nepali delicacy?

Answer: Buffalo

Once teams hit the ground running on a day in Kathmandu, they opened a clue sending them to Shree Gha Temple and giving them a pair of Detour options: 'Fur' and 'Feast'.

Teams completing 'Fur' (Rob and Georgie, Gretel and Epiphany, Lindy and Stella, Luke and Scott, and Steph and Ben) joined a Hindu festival, meticulously replicating two coloured floral garlands to be worn by dogs. The teams who finished 'Feast' instead (Dom and Marx, Bronte and Benfield, Brendan and Leni, Steve and Bernie, Aesha and Scott, and Melissa and Leah) enjoyed a local delicacy of buffalo, the catch being that the meal involved a serving, per racer, of spinal cords and stomach stuffed with bone marrow.
10. At the end of Leg 2 in Kathmandu, were any of the teams eliminated?

Answer: No

After completing their Detours, racers had to head to the fifteen-hundred-year-old temple complex overlooking Kathmandu, the monkey temple of Swayambhunath in the city's western reaches. There, they would be able to locate Beau and the Pit Stop mat hidden amongst the staircases around the temple.

Here, Dom and Marx would take first place for this leg, staying at the front of the pack. While Steph and Ben would arrive in last in eleventh place, they were told that, like the other teams, they could keep on racing immediately into the third Leg.

The catch was that while they weren't eliminated, they would face a Speed Bump in Leg 3.
