Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. All participating racers completed a Road Block in Leg 2 (in Pokhara, Nepal).

Answer: True

While thirteen teams headed into the first leg of the race, only eleven proceeded into Leg 2, which sent teams through Pokhara and onward to Kathmandu, Nepal. This said, Road Blocks appeared in the first half of the leg, back-to-back, and racers who were selected to complete the first task, a ride on the world's steepest zipline, were barred from completing a meditative second Road Block (involving balancing tingsha bells without making a sound). All twenty-two racers here completed their tasks to keep racing.
2. In Bhaktapur, Nepal (in Leg 3), the Road Block tasked teams with which type of craft?

Answer: Pottery

Racers headed from Kathmandu to Lalitpur, and then from Lalitpur to Bhaktapur for the race's third Road Block. Here, in Pottery Square, team members took on the seemingly simple task of making a bowl out of basic clay on a potter's wheel. Naturally, it wasn't quite so simple. If racers could make a smoothly-crafted bowl to the approval of a judge, they could keep racing.

This one ended up getting finished up by Scott, Benfield, Bernie, Epiphany, Rob, Leah, Aesha, Marx, Leni, Lindy, and Ben.
3. Racers ended Leg 5 with a Road Block to acquire a Soviet vehicle. Did the person who completed the Road Block need to drive it?

Answer: No

Before departing the Soviet-era apartment complex they visited in Samarkand's Chekhov District in Leg 5, racers had to find a row of garages and open them to collect Lada vehicles. The catch was that the racers selected for this leg's Road Block had to unlock them using massive keyrings containing a hundred keys, doing so in the cold rain as the sun was setting. If they could open the garage, they could get their car, but either racer could drive it to the next Pit Stop at a nearby abandoned water park.
4. In the village of Tersak, Uzbekistan in Leg 6, racers had to play what kind of instrument for the Road Block?

Answer: A horn

Heading into rural Uzbekistan to spend a leg in the village of Tersak, south of Samarkand, racers partook in all manner of laborious challenges before delivering a donkey to a stable and receiving their Road Block clue, and this time, they had to 'toot their own horns'. For this challenge, after dressing in traditional outfits, the selected racer needed to climb the mountainside and learn how to play Uzbekistan's national instrument, a horn known as the karnay. If they could perform with a band, they could get their next clue.
5. How many racing teams did not complete the net-untangling Road Block in Leg 7 (in Sri Lanka)?

Answer: One

Eight teams raced to Sri Lanka in Leg 7 and only six teams made it through to Leg 8 as a result of several unforeseen issues. For the Road Block, racers headed to a beach in the town of Negombo and untangled massive fishing nets, but with this in mind, Lindy and Stella never made it to the task, being forced to tap out due to heat exhaustion. Brendan and Leni were also eliminated in this leg, but it was a more complicated exit; Brendan completed the leg solo due to Leni's illness, and while he completed the Road Block, he opted to withdraw from the race at the Pit Stop.
6. During the tenth leg of the race, teams step foot in Taipei, Taiwan, and one racer had to walk on which of these for their Road Block task?

Answer: Reflexology path

Stopping off for a walk around 228 Peace Memorial Park in Taipei, racers had to locate a stony reflexology path for a puzzling and painful Road Block. First, Georgie, Bernie, Luke, Scott, and Gretel had to take off their shoes and walk barefoot along the stony fifteen meter path there.

Then, at the end, a woman would ask them 'Where is my heart?', a question that they would need to answer by indicating the heart pressure point on her feet, per a reflexology chart at the start of their path. Pointing out the right spot would get them their next clue.
7. In Taipei in Leg 11, racers found their Road Block clue envelope inside which unorthodox location?

Answer: An arcade machine

If teams could collect their little, tiny Road Block envelopes from the balls of a gachapon arcade machine in Taipei, they could proceed to Ximending Walking District to complete the task. There, they would have to encounter a Techno God at the entrance to the district and answer the question presented, specifically 'What is my name?'. With this prompt, the racers would have to run on-foot through the district to find the one of twenty other Techno Gods that bore the correct response, as indicated by emojis on their message panels. Getting it right would mean getting their next clue.
8. In Leg 12, 'street smart' Road Block participants had to locate a house number presented in which Taiwanese language?

Answer: Tayal

Proceeding into the Wulai District of Taiwan in Leg 12, the final five teams encountered a Road Block that had one racer climbing through the streets of the mountainside village of Fushan. There, amongst houses adorned with colourful murals, Scott, Rob, Scott, Epiphany, and Bernie had to locate a house with the image of a married couple on its side, identify its number, and relay that to a local who would hand over their next clue.

The catch was that the street number would be in a non-English language, specifically Tayal, so racers had to translate it using a number key near the entrance to the village to complete the task.
9. In Leg 13's Road Block, racers had to complete a task themed around an activity held for which Indonesian holiday?

Answer: Independence Day

Visiting the city of Yogyakarta in Leg 13, teams located their Road Block task at Minggiran Field. Here, one member of each team needed to embark on an Indonesian Independence Day tradition known as panjat pinang wherein they were required to climb bamboo boles.

At the top of these five-meter-high poles, racers would find gifts, and they needed to pull down three baskets from amongst them to find the name of their next Pit Stop destination (Tempat Berhenti nDalem Ngabean) inside. This one was done by Rob, Bernie, Scott, and 'Sassy' Scott.
10. The rice paddy fields of Nanggulan, Indonesia were the site of the Road Block in Leg 14, and there, racers had to catch which of these, swimming in the water there?

Answer: Eels

Once teams collected their Road Block clues from out in the rice paddies, they could return their tandem bikes to their starting point and proceed to a newly-made paddy to commence their task wherein the selected racers had to collect rice paddy eels with their bare hands. If Georgie, Aesha, Luke, and Steve could nab fifteen of these slippery paddy-dwellers and toss them into a bucket for the locals, they could get their Detour clue and keep racing.
