Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who's able to remove the piece of the Mind Flayer from El's leg?

Answer: Herself

In the Starcourt Mall food court, El screams as something moves in the bite wound in her leg. While Jonathan finds a knife and heats it over a food court grill, the others try to make her more comfortable. It's hard to say if it helps because Jonathan is forced to cut into the wound, reaching into it with rubber gloves to fish out the thing inside. When the pain becomes unbearable, she makes him stop and insists on doing it herself, using her powers to remove the bit that the Mind Flayer left inside her and cast it away.

Rushing to the Starcourt Mall, Joyce, Hopper, and Murray arrive just in time for Hopper to smash his foot down on the escaping piece of the Mind Flayer and get all the information they need. The Mind Flayer is back, the kids have been fighting it, and it's destroyed Hopper's cabin. Theoretically, if they close the gate again, they can cut the mind from the body and kill the Mind Flayer once and for all.
2. Why won't Nancy's car start?

Answer: The ignition cable is removed

Murray provides Alexei's blueprints to the cause, indicating that they need to find the hub to stop the machine from opening the gate, but Erica informs the others of the difficulties of breaking in, especially with all the Russian guards standing between them and the machines. Dustin and Erica volunteer to help them navigate the ventilation system, but Hopper refuses, grabbing a weapon and intending to head down without their immediate support. What he does offer, however, is for them to help navigate from a distance. Since Dustin needs certain criteria to be able to communicate that far, it means going to the highest point in Hawkins, and to do that, he needs to get there. With that, Steve and Robin drive Dustin and Erica to Weathertop, his radio tower on the hill, in the convertible.

In the mall, Murray hands his own keys over to Jonathan and Nancy while Will worries about his mother heading to the Russian base. Hopper tells El that he needs to send her away from the mall to keep her safe; it's after her, after all.

While Hopper, Joyce, and Murray head to the elevator in the loading dock, the rest of the kids head to their car and load in only to find that it won't start. When Jonathan checks under the hood, it turns out that the ignition cable is gone. As they stare across the parking lot, Billy revs his car and turns on the headlights. They have no choice but to return to the mall.
3. The kids heading to the radio tower take the callsign 'Scoops Troop'. What callsign do they give to Murray?

Answer: Bald Eagle

While Hopper believes that simply shutting down the machine to open the gate should be doable, both Joyce and Murray agree, based on Alexei's plans, that they should destroy it outright. Per their plan, Murray will trigger the alarms while Joyce and Hopper collect the two keys, use them, blow up the device, and escape back out the vents, and if they're lucky, the Russians won't even see them. Of course, as soon as the elevator doors open, they're greeted by Russian soldiers who, while Murray tries to communicate them, Hopper's forced to shoot and kill.

Dustin guides Steve and the others up to his radio tower, taking the convertible off the road and stalling the engine half-way up a hill. They proceed on foot for the remainder.

In the meantime, Mike tries to get through to the Scoops Troop on the walkie, indicating to them that they're trapped in the mall. The kids realize that they can take the ignition cable from the car flipped in the Starcourt food court, but the vehicle proves too heavy to turn. It's then, when El tries to use her powers to flip it, that she realizes she can't.

Underground, dressed in stolen Russian soldier garb, Murray manages to sweet talk the trio behind the locked gates of the facility. As soon as they reach the vent, Murray gets the radio signal from Dustin and descends into the shaft. All Joyce and Hopper can do is wait.
4. The Mind Flayer descends upon the kids in Starcourt. Who, having departed already, goes back to help them?

Answer: Steve

The Starcourt kids finally flip the car using some simple physics and when Jonathan and Nancy finally open the hood they hunt for what they need. In the meantime, El tries to use her powers to crush a Coke can, finding that she's no longer able to do it. Will feels the awful chill in his body indicating that the Mind Flayer is near, and all of them are barely able to escape the food court as the creature falls through the skylights above, crashing into the mall.

The elevator once again descends into the facilities below Starcourt and this time the Russian assassin steps out. He knows it's 'The American'. Hopper and Joyce, meanwhile worry about their predicament. Hopper admits they make a pretty good team while Joyce jokes that she could very well be his Detective. He asks if she still plans to leave Hawkins; she plans to play it by ear. If they make it out, they can celebrate at Enzo's.

In the vents, Murray calls back to Scoops Troop and gets directions while on the hill, the radio tower catches sight of Starcourt under attack. As he calls on the walkie, the Mind Flayer grabs the device, left behind by Mike, and tosses it at a wall while the kids hide. Steve, realizing the others need help, rushes back to the convertible with Robin while Dustin radios Hopper and Murray with the news.
5. To get the numbers to Planck's Constant, Dustin contacts who of these?

Answer: Suzie

As the Mind Flayer crashes through the Starcourt food court, Mike, El, and Max realize that they might have a way out through The Gap and they make a run for it, accidentally catching the creature's attention. It sends a tentacle through the store to search for them, but only finds mannequins.

With the Mind Flayer distracted in the store, Lucas lets loose his slingshot to distract the creature elsewhere in the food court. It allows him, Nancy, Jonathan, and Will to rush out another exit while Mike, El, and Max flee their hiding spots

Underground, Murray gets to the machine room and finds the fuse panel, yanking the cables from the wall to hamper the gate device and force the Russians to send up the alarm. In the chaos, Hopper and Joyce rush into the control room and punch in the codes only to find that they don't work. Murray supposes it could be wrong, but Planck's constant is...well...a constant.

Outside, Jonathan gets the car started, but Billy, still waiting in the parking lot, starts driving at their vehicle. Nancy unloads a gun on his windshield, but he doesn't slow down. The only thing that stops him is a collision from the side as Steve and Robin arrive and collide with him at the last moment. They save the group in the car, but it makes the Mind Flayer painfully aware that they've arrived. It crests over the roof of the mall to find them, and as Steve and Robin hop into Nancy's vehicle, it chases behind.

In Salt Lake City, Utah, a radio crackles and Dustin's voice comes through. Suzie, waiting for his radio signal to come through, acknowledges she hears him.
6. Before the Mind Flayer can claim El, the kids are able to use which of these to fight it?

Answer: Fireworks

While Jonathan drives the Mind Flayer away from the mall, everyone in the vehicle can hear Dustin getting the answers he needs from Suzie (she's real!), but before he can, she makes him sing the song from "The Never Ending Story". As soon as that ends she lets him know: 6.62607004. Sure enough, it works.

At the mall, Billy emerges from the flaming wreckage of his car just in time to run into Mike, El, and Max. The kids race back into the corridors of the mall with Billy in hot pursuit while, out on the edge of Hawkins, the Mind Flayer turns around.

In the mall, Billy finally reaches the kids and Max, trying to remind him of who they are, stands in his way. He strikes her down and fights all three of them, knocking El out and heaving her over his shoulder. He brings her back out to the food court through Scoops Ahoy's back room and places her amongst the wreckage. He whispers to her: "Don't be afraid; it'll be over soon." As the Mind Flayer enters the mall, El prepares to scream, but that's when it's struck with the fireworks from the grocery store; bundled together, they're like dynamite.

Underground, Hopper and Joyce collect the briefcase containing the keys and bring it to the control room while Marty continues to create havoc. He and Joyce stick the keys into the console and prepare to turn them on three, but that's when the assassin arrives, pulling their attention away from the task at hand.
7. El reminds Billy of a happy memory she saw in is mind. Where was he in the memory?

Answer: The beach

As the kids toss fireworks over the balconies of Starcourt to attack the Mind Flayer, Billy, too, feels the brunt of the explosives and acts irrationally in turn. Though El scrambles to escape his clutches, he pulls her into the middle of the mall and holds her there for the creature to claim her. The kids relay to Dustin that they're almost out of fireworks.

Hopper and the assassin fight their way into the gate chamber and along the catwalks overlooking the portal while Joyce, watching from the control room, is powerless to help. Though the assassin nearly kills Hopper in the machinery, Joyce is the one to receive the message from the walkie talkie indicating that they're almost out of time. Straining with a strap to hold down one of the keys, she reaches across the console for the other.

In the halls of the mall, Max wakes up and brings Mike to consciousness. Both realize that El is missing.

El is still pinned under Billy, and as he winces in pain, she tells him what she saw in his memories, a time at the beach when he surfed a wave that was seven feet tall and his mother watched from the shore. He closes his eyes as El reminds him that he was happy.

Hopper finally gets the upper hand, grabbing the assassin and tossing him between the splines of the machinery. It stops the fight, but destroys his escape route, blocking the route with a wave of dangerous electricity and trapping him with the gate.
8. Who closes the gate, destroying the Mind Flayer?

Answer: Joyce

As the kids run out of fireworks, Billy removes himself from El and stands before the Mind Flayer, blocking its tentacles from killing the girl. With one final spike, it kills him and leaves him on the floor. All the while, Dustin repeats over the walkie talkie that the gate must be closed, and beneath the mall, Joyce finally reaches the key. As she looks up at Hopper, he motions to her to turn them; there's no way for him to get out. And as she closes her eyes, she does it.

The turning of the keys starts and ends the chaos. As the machinery collapses and detaches, it obliterates everyone in the gate chamber, vaporizing the Russians and Hopper. With this, the gate re-seals itself, unsupported by the power of the device. Joyce and Murray look for Hopper, but he's nowhere to be found. As Russian soldiers enter the control room, they're forced to flee.

In the mall, the Mind Flayer struggles to keep itself alive. It collapses, brainless with no connection to the Upside Down. As Mike and El embrace, Max returns to her brother's side. He tells her he's sorry before he stops breathing.

From Weathertop, Dustin and Erica watch as the U.S. army helicopters fly in; the cavalry arrives minutes too late. They descend into the Russian base as Joyce and Murray emerge from the vents, coming upon the aftermath. Dr. Owens gazes upon the sealed portal in dismay.

As the army and emergency services cover the mall, Joyce surfaces to reunite with the kids. El sees Joyce without Hopper and knows the truth-- he never made it.
9. Three months after the events at the Starcourt Mall, the Byers move out of Hawkins. Who joins them?

Answer: El

Three months later, the news catches wind of the events that occurred in Hawkins not only on the Fourth of July, but in recent history with missing people, corruption in the mayor's office, and terrible tragedy all the way.

Steve and Robin hand their resumes in at a video store. Since their last job burned down with the mall, they look for any opportunity. Robin gets the job with minimal effort; Steve doesn't. She has to do some sweet talking with the manager, Keith, to make it happen.

The Byers pack their things into a moving van, having spent the past three months putting their house on the market. While they prepare to leave Hawkins behind, the other kids help box up their belongings. While Max and Lucas sing "Never Ending Story" to bother Dustin, Will tosses his 'Dungeons & Dragons' books into the donation box. Mike calls him out on this, but Will says he doesn't want another party; he'll just use his when he comes back. Jonathan and Nancy take one last look at Jonathan's old room and say their goodbyes.

El packs the last of her things as well; there's not much of it. Finding a teddy bear on a high shelf, she tries to use her powers to pull it down, but they still don't seem to be working. Mike tells her that he knows they'll come back. He reminds her to pack her walkie talkie; he's taking Cerebro off Dustin, and while she joins the Byers in California, he'll be calling her every day. He promises to come for Thanksgiving and he wants her to come up for Christmas. She lets him know that she loves him too.
10. While packing clothes, Joyce finds which of these in Hopper's shirt pocket?

Answer: A speech

Joyce packs the last of Hopper's remaining items away in a box and finds a speech in one of his jacket pockets as El comes in. It was one he wrote when he was worried about El and Mike dating, a heart-to-heart. Though he struggled to express his real feelings, he meant well. He missed El as she grew up before his very eyes, and he was afraid of that change. And he left it at that reiterating that change was only natural and necessary and they would face their emotions together.

As everyone says their goodbyes, El and the Byers load into their vehicles and leave Hawkins behind. As everyone grieves their losses, passes their stories on, and moves forward with their lives, they close the door on this chapter.

Somewhere in the remotest part of Kamchatka, Russia, on a military compound, soldiers retrieve a man from his cell (though not the American). Dragging the man through the corridors and down several flights of stairs, they leave him locked into a cage to die. He's not in the room alone. As the soldiers turn a crank, it opens a hatch in the wall, and from there, a demogorgon emerges, ready to eat.
