Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When El casts the Mind Flayer out of the hospital, where does it go?

Answer: Into the sewers

Once Steve and Dustin realize that the facility beneath Starcourt is being used to reopen the gate to the Upside Down, they grab Robin and Erica and make moves to leave. The problem is that the guard they knocked out earlier has alerted the others, and it leads all of them to flee through the labs. Dustin and Erica manage to get away, but Steve and Robin are captured in an effort to keep a security door closed.

At the hospital, the kids feel an awful rumbling and Will realizes that the Mind Flayer is there. Jonathan and Nancy, upstairs, go face to face against the awful creature created from Tom and Bruce's bodies while El and the kids make it just in time. El smashes the creature against the walls with her powers before sending it out the window, but when they return to street level they find its remains sluicing into the sewers.

In the tunnels beneath Hawkins, Billy and Heather watch on, realizing it's time.
2. While the Mind Flayer is still a big issue, Hawkins is celebrating what major holiday?

Answer: Independence Day

The Fourth of July finally kicks up in Hawkins and the town prepares to celebrate with Mayor Kline's Funfair. While he and others set up the rides and concessions, Kline has an impromptu meeting with the Russian soldier pursuing Hopper. Kline vows he'll find Hopper. After all, his life depends on it, at least in the eyes of the Russians. He has one day to find him.

Hopper, meanwhile, is in Illinois staying at Murray Bauman's place with Joyce and their captured Russian scientist, Alexei. Joyce and Hopper ask questions in English, Murray translates, and they get what they can. It takes a bit more motivation than that though. Hopper calls Alexei's bluffs by giving him the keys to his cuffs and his car and giving him a chance to leave, but since he's heading back without a scratch on him, his comrades are likely to believe he spilled the beans on the whole operation.
3. Dustin deduces that Erica is a nerd because she likes which of these?

Answer: My Little Pony

Underground, Dustin tells Erica the whole story about the gate and she believes every word (save for Lucas' involvement), but she reiterates that they need to act fast. Since they're still stuck in the ventilation shafts, blocked by fans, they don't stand a chance of saving Steve and Robin from the Russians, especially since at the rate they're progressing, it'll take them twelve days to get back to the elevator. Much to Erica's dismay, Dustin deduces that her math abilities, her interest in political science, and her enjoyment of "My Little Pony" all lead to the fact that she's a nerd, just like him, and she should lay off.

Steve, meanwhile, is beaten by Russian soldiers for information. He's forced to tell the truth of how he got there, and most of what he tells them isn't all too much of a lie, but it's clear they don't believe he's anything short of an American spy. When he's dragged back to his cell, he's reunited with Robin and the two of them are tied to a chair and left alone.
4. Mike admits that he's being conscious of El's limits because he loves her and is afraid of losing her again.

Answer: True

Using her powers once again, El navigates the darkness in an attempt to locate any of the people she knows is under the control of the Mind Flayer-- Mrs. Driscoll, the Holloways, Billy-- but it's clear she's in too long and too deep. In the meantime, Nancy exhausts her leads in an attempt to find if anywhere else is missing chemicals.

At the same time, Max and Mike argue over El and the limits that may or may not need to be imposed on her powers. Mike admits he's afraid of losing El, but the conversation ends when El tells the group she's found Billy.
5. Alexei claims that what's been created beneath Hawkins is akin to which of these?

Answer: A key

After creating a number of sketches, Alexei explains everything to Hopper, Joyce, and Murray, explaining that the houses purchased by Starcourt are like transformers stealing from the town's power grid. The Russians have created a key to access the gate in Hawkins because they can't seem to get it right in Russia; the goal is to use the energy to break through the barrier between worlds. They key was only half of the equation; the location was the other half.

Joyce realizes she needs to call the kids while Hopper searches for more to drink. There's a way to turn off the key, but with Alexei away from the lab, there's no way. Hopper suggests getting him back, but Alexei thinks it's a death wish. Breaking into the Russians' underground fortress may very well be impossible.
6. Before working together at Scoops Ahoy, how did Steve and Robin know each other?

Answer: They shared a class in high school

In the impossible-to-breach bunker, Dustin and Erica emerge from the ventilation shaft to find a room storing countless green vials of strong acid in refrigeration units. Finding a cart they realize there's an opportunity for them to escape. Dustin locates the keys while Erica finds a couple of empty cages and an electrical prod before they head down the lengthy tunnel to the exit.

Robin and Steve, meanwhile remain strapped together to a seat in a sealed away locked room. Hopping in their seat at the same time, the two end up trying to slide over to a pair of scissors, but they knock themselves over instead. The two of them reminisce about high school before the Russians return with one of their doctors...and a vial of truth serum.
7. El finds Billy using her powers, but it's odd because he's actually located where?

Answer: In his room

Eleven tries again, finding Billy but not being all too forthcoming about the details behind him. Suffice to say, he's just in his room at home, and with it being the Fourth of July, that's particularly odd. It takes no time before the kids realize he likely wants to be found, but if they go to him, all the flayed will know where they are.

There's another way though, according to El. They can't go to Billy, but there may be a way to see where he's been-- a way she's only used once before. Mike is apprehensive since El could get hurt, but she asks him to trust her and, once more, she descends into the darkness, heading to Billy waiting, seated on his bed, staring at nothing. She takes his hand in hers and tells him she wants to see what happened. That's when he grabs and refuses to let go.
8. Hopper phones a number that was given to him by Dr. Sam Hawkins. What was the code phrase he was told to provide?

Answer: Antique chariot

When El wrenches free from Billy's grasp, she falls backwards, seeing images from the past days as Billy helped the Mind Flayer take his flayed citizens, the days he was taken by the creature under the steel mill, and the time before.

She finds herself on a sandy coast and, there, she sees a woman calling down the beach to a young Billy. It's California, and it's a memory of a day he went surfing. El finds the source-- a storm on the horizon-- and she walks towards it.

In Illinois, Hopper phones a line claiming to be the Philadelphia Public Library. In reality he's looking for Dr. Sam Owens. He communicates about the Russians and the gate and Starcourt Mall, but there's nothing to do but wait. Joyce, angry that Hopper isn't acting enough, phones the number back and insists that they move to Hawkins with urgency. She wakes up Alexei and they get in the car to head back to Indiana.
9. When Robin and Steve are given truth serum, they admit which of these?

Answer: They knew about the Russian code

When the effects of the truth serum start to kick in, both Steve and Robin realize that it doesn't hurt; in fact, they start to feel loopy. The Russians reenter the room, lay out a handful of torture implements, and start asking questions again, but when they find the truthful answers continue to hide the admissions of guilt and spying they anticipated, things get intense. They go for Steve's fingernails just as Robin admits what they know about the code broadcast throughout town, and since Dustin was able to get away, it's likely he's telling Hopper, and Hopper's likely telling the U.S. cavalry.

That's when the alarm sounds in the facility. While the soldiers investigate the acid spill in the main hall, Dustin and Erica swoop into the room where Robin and Steve are being held, zap the doctor with the prod, and free the pair from their binds.
10. Though El is able to locate Billy through his memories, this allows the Mind Flayer to locate her as well.

Answer: True

El walks the beach and travels into the edge of the storm to find the answers she seeks and, there, she finds another series of memories of Billy with his abusive father and his mother. After his mother left, he was kept with his father, eventually meeting his half-sister, Max. In the eye of the storm of memories, El finds the steel mill and the source of the Mind Flayer and she tells the others.

But before she can leave, she finds herself trapped in one last realm, alone with Billy. He tells her she never should have looked for her because now they can all see her. She let them in and she's going to need to let them stay. As the flayed remove themselves from their homes and the Fourth of July festivities, they return to the steel mill and to what they've built there for her. They will end her and then her friends and then everyone else.

El returns to her friends back at the house, now knowing the Mind Flayer's intent.

In the steel mill, the flayed collapse into their amorphous forms and add themselves to the rest of the Mind Flayer's body, breaking free of the basement.
