Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 1984, what country is working on tests to open a hole to the Upside-Down?

Answer: Russia

Somewhere in Russia on June 28, 1984, scientists flip the switches on their experiment. Two men take unique keys and slot them into their control panels, turning them at the same time to set their device into action. As it fires into the lab wall, it appears to create a crack in the dimension; tendrils creep through the hole they've made as a seismic quake tears through the building. Just as soon as it's created, however, the device malfunctions, killing everyone in the test chamber, melting them in their protective gear.

The Comrade-General investigates the tear and lets the scientists know they have one year to remedy the error.
2. What is the name of Hawkins, Indiana's new mall?

Answer: Starcourt Mall

In the summer of 1985, Mike and Eleven make out to the music of Bryan Adams in El's bedroom while Hopper watches TV from the other room. Hopper, leaning back in his recliner, spies the kids kissing on El's bed and calls them out on it, but El uses her powers to shut the door, allowing the kids to pretend they weren't doing anything. When Mike heads home, the two use their walkie-talkies to joke and say goodbye.

Mike heads to the Starcourt Mall to meet the others, leaving his bike at the entrance as they head inside. Lucas comments on how upsetting it is that Mike only ever spends time with his girlfriend, but Mike sees nothing wrong with this.
3. What movie do Mike, Lucas, Will, and Max sneak into at the theatre?

Answer: Day of the Dead

As Mike, Lucas, Will, and Max head through the busy lobbies of Starcourt Mall they head directly to Scoops Ahoy Ice Cream Parlor to rendezvous with Steve who, with a bit of disdain, lets them through the service halls of the mall to sneak into the movie theatre and into a showing of George A. Romero's "Day of the Dead". As the kids hand out the snacks they've smuggled into the building, the projector cuts out...and so does the rest of the power in the mall...and in Hawkins.

Across town, somewhere in the woods, an odd wind materializes in an old mill and something takes form.

And the power comes back as Weill begins to feel goosebumps. Mike asks Will if he feels okay and Mike lies-- of course he is.
4. Which of the kids spent a month of their summer at camp?

Answer: Dustin

Nancy and Jonathan wake up late-- the power went out and they forgot to reset the clocks. As Nancy leaves out the bedroom window, Jonathan gets dressed and heads out, letting his mother wipe the lipstick off his cheek as he rushes off. Before she and Will sit down for breakfast, she notices that all of the magnets have been knocked off the fridge.

But Nancy and Jonathan, heading off to work, rush as fast as they can. While Jonathan tries to console Nancy, Nancy stresses that no one takes her seriously as a writer.

They pass by Dustin and his mother, heading home from a month-long stay at camp. Dustin tries endlessly to contact his friends on his headset, but no one's around to answer. When he heads to his room he's terrified when his robotic toys move their way out of his bedroom on their own, but it turns out to be Eleven; she and the other kids show up as a surprise. It doesn't go all too well.
5. Which of these jobs does Billy Hargrove have?

Answer: Lifeguard

At the local pool, the ladies of Hawkins watch as the female lifeguard descends from her seat and Billy Hargrove emerges to take her spot. On the way over, he compliments Mrs. Wheeler on her new bathingsuit.

Downtown, as Main Street Hawkins struggles to stay afloat, Joyce marks the items in the general store on clearance. With Starcourt Mall taking all the business, she has nothing to do but bring down prices. Hopper visits her for advice on Eleven's recent tantrums. His new goal, he says, is to split Mike and Eleven up because they spend too much time together. Joyce recommends he have a heart to heart with the kids instead; she'll at least help him find the right things to say to assuage his worries.
6. What is the name of Dustin's battery-powered radio tower?

Answer: Cerebro

Nancy heads to work at the Hawkins Post office, delivering lunch for the journalists and editors while they work around the boardroom table. As the men engage in bawdy talk and their deadline looms, they worry about their lead story and Nancy takes the opportunity to pipe up, suggesting that maybe they take a look at Starcourt Mall and the closure of small business. The reporters make a joke of it, sending her out to fix their lunches.

Dustin, having spent a month at robotics camp, shows off all his inventions for the other kids and leaves the piece de resistance for the end-- his battery-powered HAM radio tower he named 'Cerebro'. It means he can talk to his girlfriend, Suzie, whenever he wants. She's from Utah. Everyone's interested by this bit of news for obvious reasons.
7. What creatures rush to the old mill en masse?

Answer: Rats

Steve, chatting up girls at the Scoops Ahoy ice cream parlour, tries his best to get a date but finds that he's not quite smooth as he serves them. Robin keeps track of the strike-outs, recognizing that Steve doesn't seem to be all too suave. In an attempt to change his image, he removes his hat. It may be company policy to wear it, but he needs all the help he can get.

When Joyce finishes writing Hopper's script, he has him recite it with eye contact, urging him to sound more sincere about his boundary talk. He doesn't think it'll work and falls back on the idea of just killing Mike, but Joyce reminds him he can do it. Hopper invites her over for dinner but she regretfully refuses, claiming she has plans.

The kids, meanwhile, head out into the hills to use the HAM radio at the right elevation. Mike and Eleven leave, pretending they have curfew, but the rest continue on. As they ascend, Will feels goosebumps; something is off. Behind him, a wave of rats rush to the old mill, converging en mass by the hundreds and exploding inside.
8. Billy invites Mrs. Wheeler to 'lessons' at which of these locations?

Answer: Motel 6

At the pool, Mrs. Wheeler swims laps while Billy watches on from his lifeguard chair. When she gets out from her swim, he passes her a towel and the two flirt poolside. He offers to give her some advanced lessons and recommends the hotel pool at the Motel 6. She initially refuses his invitation, but he seems convincing enough.

As the kids get to the top of the hill they wonder why they didn't just stay back and play 'Dungeons & Dragons', but as the sun starts to set and they assemble the radio tower, Dustin hooks things up and calls out to Suzie. To a lack of surprise, Suzie doesn't respond.

Joyce heats up dinner for one when she arrives to an empty house and, pouring a glass of wine, she turns on the TV and remembers Bob. In the kitchen, the magnet holding his picture onto the fridge shakes loose once again.
9. To get Mike out of the house, Hopper tells which lie?

Answer: That his mother called

As Nancy cleans up at the office, the phone rings. She picks up the line to receive a call from a woman by the name of Doris Driscoll. There appears to be a problem with the rats in town; they may be diseased.

At Hopper's, El and Mike make out in her room while Hopper, in his bedroom, practices the conversation he wants to have with the kids. It's an awkward chat with both of the kids sitting on the bed and Hopper immediately forgets all of the lines he had in mind. Hopper, realizing the kids are more comfortable with the idea of a talk than he is, lies to them, claiming Mike's mother called and needs him home immediately. When he gets Mike out to the car one-on-one, Hopper tells the truth and locks him in the truck to get the point across-- on the drive home, they're going to chat, and if Mike's lucky, he'll get to continue dating El.
10. Who's attacked by something while driving through Hawkins at night?

Answer: Billy

The kids, still out trying to get the signal to work on the HAM radio, wait under the stars for an answer, fully believing that Suzie must not be real or the radio doesn't work. As Lucas and Max head out and Will goes off by himself, a signal finally comes through and Dustin is alone to hear it. It's not Suzie though, it appears to be Russian, and little does he know, it's coded.

In a laboratory in Russia, the scientists perform their next test and it appears to be going off without the same hitches as the one a year previous.

At home, Mrs. Wheeler prepares herself for her trip out to the Motel 6, taking off her wedding ring before heading downstairs. When she finds her husband and daughter sleeping on the couch, she changes her mind.

Billy, meanwhile, barrels down the road on his way to the motel. As he passes the old mill, with his focus off the road ahead of him, something collides with his windshield and he crashes into the steelworks. He gets out to survey the damage to find that whatever struck his window left behind a clear goo instead of blood. He cries out, asking who's there, but something grabs his leg and pulls him down into the cellar.
