Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As an ambulance comes for Mrs. Driscoll, she screams which of these?

Answer: "I have to go back!"

As the rain continues to come down in Hawkins, El recalls the terrifying events that have befallen her past day, worrying about Billy, Heather, and whatever has been causing mysterious things to happen as of late. None of it adds up. As she goes to bed during her sleepover with Max, the two of them try to rationalize what they encountered, but Billy seemed wrong. They put the idea to the side as they read "Wonder Woman" comics.

After finding Mrs. Driscoll eating fertilizer in her basement, Nancy and Jonathan call 911 and an ambulance straps the woman onto a stretcher while she screams "I have to go back!" As the vehicle drives off into the night, it passes by the steel works. No one notices her reach out for it.
2. Billy and Heather, having knocked out her parents, bring them where?

Answer: To the mill

As an ambulance speeds by the steel mill, it passes Billy's car parked out front. Inside, he and Heather tie her parents to seats in the basement and the two await their fate. The two beg Heather to let them go and come to her senses, but she says there's no stopping what's to come. Billy tells them not to move as something snarls and emerges from the darkness-- a mound of rats, lumped together to form an awful creature. It takes its arms, places them on the captive couple's faces, and starts to transform them.

The next morning, Hopper wakes up on his couch to find that Joyce has returned him to his house. Having been beaten up by the man in the lab, he feels awful. Joyce provides what info she can, but they realize they should figure out the man's identity, and she gives him what she remembers of his motorcycle license plate. It's their best lead.
3. Returning to work after finding Mrs. Driscoll, Jonathan and Nancy are hit with which news?

Answer: They're fired.

Lucas sends out a Code Red on the group's walkie-talkies and Max, waking up to the sound of his voice on the device, shuts it off and goes back to sleep. The boys are persistent, however, and they call her until she gets out of bed; Mike has to take the phone to reconfirm the severity of the situation and get her and El to visit.

Dustin, meanwhile, isn't responding either. Still on the mall roof with Steve and Robin, he watches as more boxes are loaded into Starcourt via the Russian-blocked entrance. He theorizes that they'll need to get the keycard off them to dig deeper. While Dustin and Steve argue about fighting the guards hand-to-hand, Robin realizes she might have a way to get in. She takes their tips and rushes off.

At the Hawkins Post office the next day, Nancy and Jonathan return to find their boss, Mr. Holloway, ready to speak to them. Noticeably unwell, Mr. Holloway doesn't discuss what happened to him in the steel mill the night before, but he does chastise the pair and indicate that Mrs. Driscoll's family plans to pursue legal action. He fires both of them on this account.
4. Whenever the Mind Flayer is around, Will claims to get which of these?

Answer: A sinking feeling

Max and El arrive at Mike's to hear out Will's concerns since he felt the coming of the Mind Flayer not only on the night they went and saw "Day of the Dead" at Starcourt Mall, but also in the field after Dustin got home and at Castle Byers a night ago. In the moment it feels like everything in his body is sinking all at once, but worse. He goes cold and can't breathe. He felt it before when the Mind Flayer was close. El says she closed the gate, but Will reasons he may never have left; they might have gotten it out of him, but it might have been trapped on their side of the portal. He'd want to attach himself to a new host if that were the case.

Hopper and Joyce, meanwhile, visit Mayor Kline's office and Hopper asks him point-blank about the motorcyclist he saw in the building only a couple days earlier. Kline is evasive about this until Hopper threatens to blackmail him and their verbal sparring leads to a fistfight. Only when Kline's finger is placed in a cigar cutter does he talk, revealing the man to work for Starcourt.
5. There are no other doors (besides the one) into the secret loading bay at Starcourt, but Robin finds what other way to access the space?

Answer: The ventilation

Kline finally reveals and confirms the truth when he's pushed to his limit, informing Hopper that the man on the motorcycle not only gives gifts and kick-backs, but he works for the Starcourt Mall. Not only that, but the establishment has made strong motions to stake claim in East Hawkins as well, leading him to press harder on local businesses to close down and claim the properties. Kline doesn't know why they want the land, but he does have records. It's why Hopper takes him for a ride.

Nancy and Jonathan drive off contemplating the dubious nature of their firing; Nancy thinks Tom may have been on drugs considering the sweating and clamminess. Jonathan, however, thinks they should've dropped the story. Neither of them can understand the other's point of view, as they acknowledge.

Robin heads to the County Reporter's office with twenty bucks in hand and brings blueprints of Starcourt Mall back to Scoops Ahoy. What they find is there's no way into the secret loading dock by any other doors, but there are air ducts, and though Steve and Dustin try to cram the latter into the narrow vent, Robin gets another idea when she spots Lucas' sister in line at the counter.
6. What does it take to convince Erica to help investigate Starcourt?

Answer: Free ice cream

The kids head to the Hawkins Pool parking lot to spy on Billy who, sitting under an umbrella and covered in layers, watches over the water in the shade. Max brushes off the fact that Billy is wearing a shirt (something Lucas already claims is weird) and suggests the Mind Flayer wouldn't like to be near a pool, but Will knows the being likes to hide, only coming out when necessary. It's like it lays dormant until they're activated. Mike devises a plan: they wait until the pool closes, lure Billy back to the sauna, lock him in, heat him up, and they find out the truth.

Flashlight in-hand, Lucas' sister, Erica, takes a look at the ventilation shaft and notes her apprehension towards crawling in. It takes a ton of ice cream and sundaes to convince her to crawl to the hidden space, open the door from the inside, and let them in, but eventually she concedes. It sounds like child endangerment, but Lucas reminds her it has a lot to do with the Russians' assault on America. That's not when she makes the concession though-- it has more to do with free ice cream for life.
7. Who recommends to Nancy that she continue to pursue investigating the weird events in Hawkins?

Answer: Her mother

Hopper and Joyce head to Mayor Kline's house to grab the documents from his home safe and pore through the shady land deeds and transfers of property, all of which lead back to Starcourt. The land deeds, as Kline says, are for protection; the Starcourt group are big trouble. Joyce quickly deduces that all of the properties are in Southeast Hawkins near Jordan Lake and, not-coincidentally, the power plant, possibly explaining the power outage and the demagnetism if they can find where the machine is hidden. Larry makes an attempt to escape at this point, but is foiled when he tries to crawl out his bedroom window.

At home, Karen knocks on Nancy's door and her daughter tells her everything about the firing and the lead she had. It's not a long talk, but it's enough for her mother to recommend she keep at it. Nancy's a fighter, she says, and she's proud for standing up for herself. If she believes in the story, she needs to finish it and sell it somewhere that'll listen.
8. Is 'Operation Child Endangerment' a success?

Answer: Yes

At the pool, Will and Lucas grab supplies and Lucas tries to broach the issue of not taking Will's campaign seriously. There are bigger fish to fry, however, and Will ignores the apology. Mike and El pull a CPR dummy out of storage, intending to use it as bait, and Mike tries to apologize as well. This, too, falls on deaf ears; El admits that Hopper might be right, and she needs to spend time around other people.

Larry Kline, meanwhile, is found by his wife after she gets home from aerobics. Handcuffed to the bedpost, he yells at her to bring a phone.

Hopper and Joyce drive out to the southeast of Hawkins and break into an old, Starcourt-purchased property to find it vacant. It's their third one. Next stop: Hess Farm.

At Starcourt, as night falls, Erica starts 'Operation Child Endangerment' while the others watch from the adjacent rooftop. She finds the room with the boxes and busts in, opening the doors from the inside and granting them entry. Free ice cream for life.
9. The room in the loading bay at Starcourt Mall is actually which of these?

Answer: An elevator

Nancy heads to the hospital with a bouquet of flowers and pretends to be Mrs. Driscoll's granddaughter to get into her room. What she finds when she enters is a sleeping patient, but during her short stay in the room, Mrs. Driscoll's heart rate increases drastically and she starts to transform.

In the loading bay at Starcourt Mall, Steve opens the first box he finds to find a sealed, metal container kept chilled by mist. Opening one of these containers they find a glowing, green goo, but what's worse is that the room starts to make noise. As they try to press the buttons on the wall to make their way out, they discover that they're in a large elevator...and it's descending with them inside.
10. Is Billy able to escape the sauna once he's trapped inside?

Answer: Yes

At the pool, the kids hide until Billy takes to the showers after his shift. As he dresses in the locker room, he hears noises in the men's locker room and finds that he's been locked in. Following the voices beckoning him deeper, he falls for the bait-- the CPR dummy in the sauna-- before El casts him in and the others lock the door with an iron bar. Though he calls out to Max, she insists that they crank the heat. She needs to know the truth.

The heat rises and Billy screams at them to let him out, but soon he quiets down, explaining he never meant to do any of the awful things he did; it was almost as though a giant shadow were taking over and forcing him. As he curls into a ball on the floor, Will starts to feel as though the Mind Flayer is activating, and Max has only seconds before her brother breaks through the sauna room's window. They manage to get back, but Billy transforms, forcing his way through the thick chain holding the door shut. Eleven is able to keep Billy at bay with her powers, but barely, and only with help from Mike. When she tosses him through the wall of the building, the kids make a run for it.

Billy, meanwhile, skulks off and returns to the steel mill, arriving to find Heather and dozens of other possessed locals standing before the beast in the basement. Eleven may know about him, but she don't stand a chance against all of them.
