Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Once Max finds out that El can listen in on people with her powers, they play a modified version of which of these to determine who to spy on?

Answer: Spin the Bottle

El and Max, hanging out together and looking up boys in teen magazines, turn their conversation to kissing as El, embarrassed, reminds her friend that Mike is-- was-- her first boyfriend. Max suggests that Mike and Lucas are probably wallowing in self-pity after what went on at the mall and she claims she wishes she could see the looks on their faces. El can, however. When El puts on a blindfold, she sees them in the darkness and finds them mulling over the situation, trying to think rationally about what they find to be an irrational situation.

Hopper arrives home drunk while the girls spy and he barges into El's room believing Mike to be over. Realizing that Max is there for a sleepover, he leaves the girls to their devices and kicks his shoes off in the other room. The girls, however, take their games one step further, opting to spy on others in a modified spin the bottle game.
2. Who notices El spying on them telepathically?

Answer: Billy

When the bottle spins on Max's brother, El goes looking and finds him with her telepathy, discovering him near his smashed car. He kneels on the floor, talking to someone, before he turns to find El watching.

As a storm rolls in over Hawkins the next morning, Will loudly awakens Mike and Lucas to urge them to play 'Dungeons & Dragons' in, as he proposes, 'A Day Without Girls'.

Hopper, meanwhile, wakes up hungover to find that El has gone to Max's for a sleepover at her place. It's just as well because Joyce comes knocking. Hopper, angry that she stood him up, lets her in and she explains the situation...with magnets.
3. Joyce theorizes that a large-scale magnetic field might be constructed where?

Answer: At the Hawkins lab

Hopper isn't altogether thrilled with Joyce's excuses. Not only did she stand him up over dinner, but she spent the night learning about magnetism with her son's high school science teacher. Hopper nearly leaves the discussion, but Joyce theorizes that it could be something bad, back after the past year, creating a large-scale magnetic field. They would need scientists and materials and funding and they would have the lab, but it couldn't be a coincidence.

Though Hopper listens to her, he can't get over the previous night. He simply wants to move on from the events of the past while and he tells Joyce as much, but she leaves while he gets dressed, grabs bolt cutters and a flashlight from his shed, and prepares to head out alone. Only when he finds that she's not joking does he get in the car to come along.
4. What do El and Max find in Billy's bathtub?

Answer: Bags of ice

El and Max discuss what happened with Billy the night before and Max tries to rationalize what she believes El saw in her mind, but when they get back to Max's place, Billy's car isn't in the driveway. With that they head into Billy's room to investigate and, there, inside the bathtub, they find several empty bags of melted ice. Again, Max rationalizes this, suggesting they might be for Billy's muscles. The blood on the bathroom cupboard, however, is harder to explain. And so is the lifeguard pouch inside.

Jonathan and Nancy, meanwhile, develop their photos in the newspaper office's darkroom. Nancy brings the photos in to the reporting staff with her suspicions about the rodents and their hunger for the town's chemicals, but they laugh her off. They tell her to do what she was hired for-- answer calls-- and nothing more.
5. Dustin and Steve spend their day looking for which of these (through binoculars) at the mall?

Answer: Russians

At Scoops Ahoy, Robin listens to the Russian tape and overlooks her duties at the register while Steve goes out spying on the locals with Dustin. Though the two start out by looking for anyone who looks like a Russian (tall, blond, menacing) they get sidetracked quickly, especially when Dustin starts insisting that Steve and Robin would make a good couple. Steve, however, doesn't think Robin is his type, especially since he's grown up and finished high school. The discussion turns to Suzie as well, who no one seems to believe exists.

At Mike's, the games continue even though Mike and Lucas aren't completely into it. The phone rings, distracting the boys, but the repeated lack of enthusiasm is enough to get Will to pack it in and leave, biking back in the pouring rain. Will has to concede that he thought, maybe, they would be able to keep playing games in Mike's basement, but that was just a hope and not completely in line with reality.
6. While searching for Heather, El sees a vision of which of these?

Answer: A red door

El and Max head to the local pool to search for Billy and determine whose pouch they found in his bathroom cupboard, and what they find is that it belongs to Heather, who never showed up for her shift. Looking at a picture of Heather on a nearby bulletin board, El believes she can find her. It's why the girls head to the showers, turn them all on to mimic white noise, and cover a diving mask with tape to black it out, and with these, El descends into the darkness and searches for the missing lifeguard.

Telepathically, she locates a white mailbox and a red door. Inside, she finds a white bathtub, and in the bathtub, she finds water filled to the lip with ice. Heather bursts out, screaming for help, before she's pulled beneath the surface.
7. A delivery from a man in Starcourt clues Robin in to the true meaning behind the contents of the Russian transmission. What animal is on the delivery service's logo?

Answer: Lynx

Joyce and Hopper make it to the lab to find, at least to all appearances, that it seems vacant. Breaking open the chains on the front doors they let themselves in and Joyce is forced to revisit the site where Bob was killed by the Demodog. Neither of them notice the video cameras watching their movements through the building.

Dustin, meanwhile, finds a target to follow-- a man with blond hair, sunglasses, a tall stature, and a duffel bag. It must be an evil Russian, they decide, and they head off in pursuit...only to find he's an aerobics instructor headed to a lesson.

Robin, meanwhile, receives a delivery at the back door of the ice cream parlour from a man in a Lynx Delivery uniform and manages to crack the code, realizing that all the items in the Russian transmission refer to places and things in the Starcourt Mall.
8. Who knows that Joyce is planning to sell the house and move out of Hawkins?

Answer: Hopper

At the office for The Hawkins Post, Nancy continues to suffer from the childish behaviour of her fellow newspaper workers and it convinces her that she and Jonathan need to take their investigation one step further by bringing forth proof. Though Jonathan worries that they should drop it, Nancy insists.

At the labs, Joyce and Hopper step into the room that contained the portal to the Upside Down to find it remains sealed, much to Joyce's concern. Hopper asks her for trust that he's keeping Hawkins safe and reveals that he knows of her intent to sell the house. The two have a heartfelt talk, but noises in the distance take their focus, and soon they're off investigating again.

Mike and Lucas head to the Byers' house searching for Will and they find the place empty; it's because Will is in his fort in the woods reminiscing on fun times gone by. Taking a bat, he smashes Castle Byers in anger and frustration.
9. Nancy and Jonathan return to Mrs. Driscoll's home to find her eating which of these?

Answer: Fertilizer

Jonathan and Nancy return to Mrs. Driscoll's intending to get the proof from her basement and, though they knock on her door, she doesn't answer. Nancy tries the door, finding it's unlocked, and the two go inside anyways, searching quietly for any signs of the homeowner. Finding the basement door open and descending into the darkness, they find a torn-open bag of fertilizer and awful noises coming from deeper within. The noises aren't from the rat though-- they're coming from Mrs. Driscoll as she gorges on another bag of soil.

At the Starcourt Mall, a truck pulls up to the loading bay as the rain pours down. Dustin, Steve, and Robin keep their binoculars at the ready for a couple of stores indicated by the Russian code. As boxes are delivered to armed men at the back doors, the trio accidentally drop their binoculars, attracting the ire of the Russians and forcing them to flee back into the mall.

Hopper and Joyce, meanwhile, find the source of the noise in the labs-- a Russian soldier who fights Hopper to the ground before escaping on a motorcycle.
10. Where do El and Max finally locate Heather?

Answer: At home

El and Max ride around Hawkins in the rainy evening until they find a house with a white mailbox and a red front door, and when they do they let themselves in to find that it's Heather's place. In the other room, Heather, Billy, and Heather's parents are enjoying dinner, and the girls are shocked to find all of them perfectly fine considering El's visions. They make up an excuse as Billy and Heather claim that everything is alright and before long, the girls depart confused. As they leave, Billy watches them go, seeing visions of El's powers sealing away the Upside Down.

In the woods, Will feels a chill run down his spine as Mike and Lucas locate him. He informs the two that the being from the Upside Down is back.

At Heather's house, Billy takes a seat back at the dining room table as Heather's parents start to feel a bit lightheaded. Her mother doesn't make it to bed before she collapses. Heather takes a wine bottle to her father's head before smothering his face with ether and promising it'll all be over soon.
