Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Technically, this fight does take place in Eleum Loyce, but in a very specific part of the ancient city. Where is it?

Answer: Old Chaos

According to lore, the Burnt Ivory King used his very soul itself to build his throne directly atop Old Chaos, a land between Drangleic and the very Abyss itself where denizens of the Abyss, as well as the aftermath of Izalith's destruction from "Dark Souls 1", dwell.

Attempting to create a real world parallel, this would be like if the President of the United States or maybe the Canadian Prime Minister built their respective buildings literally inside Hell itself, so they could go pick a fight with Satan. That's how much of a bad ass Burnt Ivory King is portrayed to be.
2. What is Burnt Ivory King weak to?

Answer: Absolutely nothing

The King has 44% resistances to Fire, Magic and Dark, to go with a 30% resistance to Lightning. Poisoning him will prove to be basically impossible, between his incredible agility and 79% resistance to it.
3. Upon arriving into his boss room, the player will find it completely lacking a boss whatsoever. Burnt Ivory King will appear, but he will wait for the player to first do what?

Answer: Kill his men

Upon arrival, the Charred Loyce Knights, who are Burnt Ivory King's men, will appear to attack the player. The player must slay ten of them, before they will temporarily stop spawning. An enormous tremor will then occur, before a huge flaming portal slowly appears. Out of it will step the King himself, as he will strike a pose in hoisting his sword before he will begin the actual boss fight.
4. Burnt Ivory King has an enormous army, which can potentially get to be quite oppressive during his actual boss fight. Is it possible to halt or slow the advance of his knight soldiers during the fight?

Answer: Yes

Overall, this is a very similar dilemma to when fighting Aava, the King's Pet. Burnt Ivory King can be fought and even defeated as soon as the player gains access to his fight. However, the overwhelming majority of players will get themselves killed very quickly if they try this, as if they do, an endless onslaught of Charred Loyce Knights will appear to support Burnt Ivory King, while the player will have next to nothing to supplement themselves.

To correct this, the player must venture back into the city of Eleum Loyce. With the Eye of the Priestess now in hand, to go with the city's raging blizzard coming to a halt with the defeat of Aava, the player can locate five Loyce Knights and recruit them to join their cause.

These Loyce Knights will, eventually, sacrifice their lives to shut down four portals in the boss room. These portals, if left unchecked, will endlessly spawn Charred Loyce Knights. But if a Loyce Knight is available, they will eventually go to these portals and kill themselves, turning themselves into a huge iceberg that freezes and disables these portals.

By gathering four Loyce Knights, the player can ensure Burnt Ivory King will not be receiving any support throughout the boss battle. Then, the player can earn a much more fair one-on-one with the King should they desire it.
5. The player has two NPCs available for summon. One of them, Twiggy Shei, is a brand new face. The other is anything but. Who is the other available NPC summon?

Answer: Lucatiel of Mirrah

Worth noting, this boss battle will not count towards Lucatiel's questline, which requires the player to summon her for three boss fights and ensure she survives them. Even if, somehow, she survives being summoned for this fight, it simply won't count.

Not that that's going to happen anyway. Lucatiel, as well as Shei, is sadly quite useless and arguably even completely and utterly redundant for this boss fight since the player can already obtain their own "summons" via the Loyce Knight mechanic. Lucatiel is very likely to get completely swallowed up by the initial wave of Charred Loyce Knights, just like Twiggy Shei, so she won't even typically survive for the boss fight to start, let alone end.
6. Interestingly, Burnt Ivory King has actual voice lines he will speak during, and in one case immediately after, his boss fight. What is one thing he will say?

Answer: "Alsanna!"

Right as the finishing blow is landed onto him, Burnt Ivory King will clutch his chest, then shout out "Alsanna!" before crumbling and dying.

Alsanna is one of the Shards of Manus, a sister to Nashandra, Elana and Nadalia. However, she is in stark juxtaposition to her family, as Alsanna is actually a friend to the player (assuming they don't kill her!)

Burnt Ivory King cries her name out, because prior to the events of this game, the two were wed, ruling over Eleum Loyce together. Burnt Ivory King left Alsanna, took a large force of his men, and went deep into the Old Chaos, aiming to vanquish the Abyss entirely. He was, of course, unsuccessful at doing that. It is Alsanna who initially asks the player to go and fight him, hoping they can put him out of his misery.

In addition to this voice line, Burnt Ivory King will periodically cry out "Fight!" or "Die!" when he attacks the player or their summons.
7. If fighting the boss with a friend, you may notice that Burnt Ivory King specifically targets players who do what?

Answer: Heal

If a player uses an Estus Flask, Life Gem, heals with a Miracle or through any other means, it will attract Burnt Ivory King like moths to a lamp. He is nowhere near as good at interrupting these maneuvers as Fume Knight or Sir Alonne, but he will make sure to at least exert prompt, quick pressure against those who do heal.

Two people playing alongside each other can readily exploit this. If one person's health is getting low, the other can use their own healing item to lure Burnt Ivory King over, and then far away from their friend. This would give the friend ample time and distance to heal themselves to full, then be immediately ready for when they lured Burnt Ivory King right back over to them.
8. Burnt Ivory King's armor set can potentially purchased. Is it available immediately after his defeat?

Answer: No

Defeating him is one of two prerequisites. The other is obtaining fifty Loyce Souls and delivering them to Alsanna. This, unfortunately, will assuredly be an incredibly long and tedious undertaking, as players will only receive around 1-4 Loyce Souls on average from a single boss fight with Burnt Ivory King. Thankfully, summons can pick up Loyce Souls, incentivizing players to help other players in order to best farm the Loyce Souls.
9. Interestingly, Loyce Souls can be dropped to both the host, and any summons they brought with them. Do Loyce Souls have a higher drop rate for the host or the summons?

Answer: Summons

Each Charred Loyce Knight has, on base, a 5% chance to drop a Loyce Soul. For summons however, this increases up to 12.5%. This was likely to incentivize people to help players struggling with this fight. Of course, these drop rates can be raised from equipment such as the Watchdragon Parma Shield or Covetous Gold Serpent Ring.
10. On defeat, Burnt Ivory King drops Soul of the Ivory King. This lets the player earn the Ivory King Ultra Greatsword, which was Ivory King's melee weapon. This weapon has one, utterly destructive feature to it. What aspect of this sword procures a special attack?

Answer: Two-Handed Basic Attack (R1 while character is two-handing the weapon)

The simple 2H Basics on this sword are extremely destructive, essentially turning the weapon into a lightsaber by briefly encasing it in a bright, glowing magic and smashing foes with it.

This UGS has the honor of possessing the single mightiest Basic Attack out of any weapon in the whole entire game because of this, making it out to be an exceptional choice for a weapon.

The only minor gripe is that, at this point, the game is essentially over. The player will have few, if any bosses left to go and use it on. Fret not, as that's what New Game Plus is for!
